I got this message too. Handyman/tradesman services isn't related to the ad I placed on craigslist. That and without a company name in the message, it sounds fishy.
@Joe & sales.support.team: Why is the hiring company asking the prospective employee to pay for a background check? Everyplace I've ever worked, that was the hiring company's responsibility. Sounds like they're just trying to your $99, which is about twice what my last company paid for a background check, including credit, police, and jail.

Hey all,
I just wanted to add my handle to the list. Eyerthing mentioned above is exactly what I thought and heard. It seems like they are just attached to craigslist.org so if you post do so by using alternate emails and phone numbers or better yet don't leave a phone number. Craigs List uses thier own security measure which seem to do ok, they mask your real email address so all communication go through cl. They then screen all the emails with a sort of search engine looking for special filtered words. This stuff is everywhere. I tried to sell a car on ebay and got sent two stolen checks and they wanted me to western union pick up fees to them and yada yada so do your home work, there is a background checking company that is used by several business it is called intellius. I trust them no joke Office Depot uses them as well as Carrols Corp (BK and pollo tropical, taco cabbana, NY based fortune 500 co.) and they are very reliable and secure. It is cheap for thier services and could potientally save you lots of time and money down the road.

I called the number and got the same message. I eventually did speak to someone but it sounded like she was reading from a script. She said they work with banks REOs. After I gave her a zip code she said that there was 6 months worth of work in that zip code. She than said that I would have to pay $99 for a background check. Has anyone ever done work through this company?

Typical when I advertise on Craig's list, the scam artists come out of the woodwork. I never provide my real name, phone, or email address....but I still get the spam.
This one is not even close to the ad for the services I advertised.

immediate consideration
8 pages on a Google Search comes back with no mention of who the company really is, but they run ads in free classifieds coast to coast from LA to Albany, NY. From carpenters to Handy Man.
Contractor Management was the company name identified, calling at 8am EDT I got a recording claiming "No one is available" and asking me to dial ext. 701, I would guess to redirect my phone call to an off shore number for more information. I suspect this company is in Fullerton, CA.
It smelled fishy to me, so I may do more online research before I call them crooks outright. Just several red flag items that are making me cautious.
