Funny, I get the calls but no message and I don't have a bank account in canada. Figures

Just got a call from this number, I won't call them back, they say it's CIBC letting me know they've mailed out information to me.. the problem is, when they left the message, they used my middle name, my bank never uses my middle name, only my first name, so something's not right here..

The calls come from a company working for CIBC. They are just selling products. Call CIBC from the number on the back of your card (if you have an account) and tell them to take you off their solication list. Sometimes you have to argue with them to get this done. Then they treat you like you have just whipped their dog, but they won't call you back.

These morons call me constantly. Usually, they/he/it/she don't leave a message, but today was special! How special? Their first call didn't cover it, so they called right back and continued the message. They're on an IVR system, which means the number shown is not the number from which they're calling, so don't bother to block or report.
Scumbags want to glean your personal information! How do I know? I have NO CREDIT cards, so there is NO CREDIT LIMIT TO RAISE, Mongoloids. May an entire colony of fleas nest in your underwear.....invisibly!

2 seconds of low frequency audio tone followed by sales pitch for financial freedom pointing towards HTTP://www.wanttowin.net/ or 888-345-0732
Pre-recorded message claims that I have called the above number and hence why I am getting a call back...

I phoned CIBC and it is one of their numbers. It was about a credit limit increase. While I was on the line I had them stop ALL solicitations.

I got the same call just an hour ago. The other night they called us around 8:30. Then yesterday the branch I deal with was calling to speak to my husband- they are promoting everything from credit increases; re-mortgaging & their accidental life insurance. I don't answer my phone anymore unless I recognize the number and person calling. We continue to pay for this land line we can't use anymore.

I received an automated message (in French) from 1 888 345 5888 on my cell phone, pretending to be from CIBC, fishing for my personal info associated to an imaginary on-going common transaction. I hang up before learning more: I AM NOT A CIBC CUSTOMER. They would have no legitimate reason to call me. None.
The bottom line: I doubt that this con call actually emanated from CIBC

Stop calling me and sending me other peoples account information and on top of that I dont even speak french let alone have an account with CIBC. I ve been getting callls and text messages in french from these guys for the last two years to my cell phone which is PREPAID. STOP CALLING MY F****NG PHONE.

I have received numerous voice mails from this number
maggie 2012-05-30 21:05:10 Unknown
I would encourage everyone to not call a random 1-888 number back but instead call CIBC help line (or something similar) to double check and see what the call was about. Obv never give your information to anyone on the phone - unless it is legitamately the bank calling.

It is a scam...called cibc...
Karen 2012-04-05 21:00:52 Unknown
I called cibc because I was not comfortable giving a random caller my personal info so they could access my credit if they had gotten hold of my number...cibc guy said that it was NOT one of their numbers...likely a scam where they use your personal info to steal money from you via your visa card...he said be wary of these calls!!!!
Chris 2012-03-16 20:08:19 Unknown
They rang today at 1pm. I didn't answer as it came up unknow on my caller ID. The message left was pre-recorded from CIBC. They want me to contact their credit card services.
I don't have any accounts with CIBC.
Odd.
Dave 2011-06-28 21:18:20 Unknown
A prerecorded message, supposedly from CIBC that there is a problem with the account, and to call CIBC at this number. Do not know if this is actually genuine, or if it is a fraud.
Bradley 2011-06-06 21:05:25 Unknown
Called my unpublished home number.
Dean 2010-11-17 14:28:13 Unknown
Same thing. I was a bit wary but I think it's legit. I gave a couple of pieces of information but they did not ask for my card number or security number.
They offered credit limit increase. I knew it was legit once she accurately told me what my current credit limit is.
I hate them calling me for this crap.

CIBC number to increase credit limit
Dee 2010-07-07 19:58:13 Unknown
The recording on my VMail (for the number they called, which "they" don't have) was already leaving information. The only part of the message that was recorded was , "......to call 888-345-5888, thank you good bye (click)"
So the number that "they" called (mine) is a non-issued, non-used Bell cell number. The Blackberry is only used for its data abilities, and has it's number/identity blocked when calling out. Nor is the number provided verbally as a call back number.
So whomever has this number, could only have hit it by automated 0000-9999 list of numbers.
Side note:
I used to work in a phone company where we could assign ANY (or none) phone number to an actual dialing line. Example: Functioning line 206-999-3xx2 issued to customer to use, but we could assign a caller ID number of 416-552-8755 on it, so that when people see the 8755 number they call it, and NEVER know what line actually called them.
Yes, it's illegal, but pad someones pocket and it can be done. Good luck tracing it back even with the police. They just get the same as you, a ficticous non-functioning number.
r 2010-06-22 21:20:21 Unknown
did it say it was for an increase in your available credit. This is the only thing I received in the mail from them.
g 2010-06-21 18:26:04 Unknown
It's CIBC. Left voicemail about some material they mailed me. I've called back to the number at back of my Credit Card, they confirmed the call and it was about the subject of mail that I got earlier (a promotion) which is supposed to not come to account if I didn't give them a call!
