Pretended to have legal dept, said call recorded, etc. Asked how I got case number, told him I forgot. He read me a social security number that wasn't mine, I said "Thank goodness, that's not even me." He asked if I had a son I told him no way, then he got rude and finally hung up.

Do not provide them with any information! They are half-witted scammers.

I received a call like this yesterday and checked my voicemail today. At first I was petrified, as they said my name was listed in a complaint and that I needed to have my attorney contact them, if I chose to have one. I could not make out the name of the company stated even after listening to the voicemail 6 times.  So to the interwebs I went and found this glorious set of listings, that has me at ease... Scott Sherman is the name that was used on the message to me as well.

Them claiming to have the cops out is full crap as well .  Last isn't it against the law to portrait yourself as the law when you are really not one????

I got called by these scum bags some years ago in S. FL.  I was a victim of identity theft so figured it had to do with that.  These people scared teh H*LL out of me threatening to "come get me"... then  that stopped, and it started again some years later, and happens about every 6 months or so.  I don't owe anyone anything other than what I pay... and am so sick of this... for one thing, it's embarassing.  Scum Bags, leave people alone.  The police can't do anything about it obviously, as they've been called each time.  Guido needs to go visit them...

These people called my brother, my mother and my sister today at unlisted numbers looking for another member of our family whose address and whereabouts are listed in the phonebook and well-known.  They are clearly trying to scare and harass this family member by telling all of his relatives they are trying to serve him with a "Summons to Appear."  There is no such summons and this is an illegal debt collection tactic - it is illegal for a debt collector to claim they are going to sue you unless they actually intend to.  It is illegal for a debt collector to claim it is trying to serve a consumer when they haven't even filed a claim.  These people are clearly scammers.  If they call you, demand an accounting of your alleged debt in writing. NEVER GIVE THEM ACCESS TO YOUR CHECKING OR CREDIT CARD ACCOUNT.  If you already have done so contact your bank immediately.

I never give out any information to anyone when they call like this.  And rarely call them back but since my son has only had his number a week (and his wife is a nitwit who knew what she gave them) So I called to see if they might be someone still trying to collect from a bankruptcy we did 15 years ago (they still try) but this guy was asking to many questions and giving no details so I hung up after telling him he was a crack pot

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

They called my son today looking for me (he has a brand new number so theyre trolling) when I called back to tell them to cease and desist they wanted all sorts of info to find out who I am and what number I called from and where I live,  when I asked for their address he asked what for so I told him it was a cease and desist letter and they gave me:
28241 Crown Valley Rd., Ste. F403, Laguna Niguel, CA 92675  which if you google it is a UPS store.  So even if you send it certified the only one who signs is the UPS store employee.  They can claim they never received it.  When I called the UPS store they told me to Highlight a note on the letter telling them to have the customer sign for it before they get it. who knows if that will work but I'll try it and then keep searching for a real address for Cambridge Capital

The man that will "answer" your questions regarding these CONSTANT calls is named Joseph Harris. He is a CON ARTIST! He said I had a credit card bill that was from 1996-2005, that I just "stopped" paying. First of all- I was not even 18 in 1996, nor did I own a credit card and certainly did not have a credit limit of $10,000. Once he realized I was not going to "take care of it now", he was quick to belittle and demean me for not paying my bills. I am getting an attorney involved. He also- did not know my current employer and made up a fake job description, of which I had never been. He did however, which is super scary, know the last 4 digits of my social. Be careful people! This man is a super con!!!!!!!! He is scum of the earth and should rot in hell! I am guessing he changes his company name to "Chamberidge" because that's what he told us.

RE:   credit card acct opened 3/07?  I am unsure of original creditor

May/June 2013  They had called me at work claiming to have no other way of contacting me.  I remember talking to this guy & him telling me about this debit to a company I don?t remember ever having an account with.    I stated that to the collector & asked them to send me information to validate the debt including an agreement signed by me or other proof that the debt was mine (Right to collect info) or statements of account, really ANYTHING that would show this was mine.  He said he was unable to provide that information, that I ?knew? that the debt was mine & should just take care of it & get it off my credit report.  Again I said I would not be agreeing to making any payments without seeing something from him supporting this debt value & ownership, especially on an account I?ve never heard of, never received statements from, never had any collections efforts from the original creditor, I mean, who does that?  Collector then asked if I was disputing the debt & I responded ?absolutely?.  I also told him NOT to call me at work again & provided him with my cell phone number, that way if he felt the need to harass me again I would just not answer it as I do with all unknown phone numbers.  He threatened taking me to court if I did not make arrangements  with him that day, I told him that was a chance I would have to take, but that I was legally in the right to request validation documents, which I just had.  Collector said, ?Well, I hope it works out the way you want it to?have a nice day.? (The last was said in a voice that basically said he really wished I had the worst day ever, but oh well?)

June/July 2013  Someone called from CSA asking for me, but since I was on a call, he then asked for my supervisor.  My supervisor, Tom,  took the call & the caller said he had been trying to serve me at home for several weeks, but had not been able to catch me (weird considering I had a teenage son home for the summer who is old enough to take a summons) & asked what the procedure was for serving me at work.  Tom told them he didn?t think it would be a good idea for them to serve me at work (as it would embarrass me) and asked instead if I could call them.   I wish I hadn?t been on the phone when the guy called because I would?ve told the guy to come serve me right then & there at work, plus the phone number the ?process server? gave was the same phone 888 number to the CSA office & I got to talk to Joseph.  Joseph asked if I was calling because I had been served & I told him I had not been served with anything, but someone had called wanting to serve me at work.  I asked why they were serving me when they had been unable or unwilling to provide me with the basic supporting documents I had requested in our previous call & that I didn?t have anything else to say until then.  Joseph then said, ?Come on, just pay your bills.? I replied that I would expect to see what I requested or his process server soon.  He replied ?F****ng deadbeat?, and hung up.

Sept 24th 2013  I?m finally starting to document dates on this because it is becoming ridiculous?A Robert from ?CSA Filing Firm? called again asking for me, but I was on the phone; he then asked to speak to my supervisor.  My direct supervisor, Tom, was out of the office so the girl who had answered the phone sent her to the owner/president of my work.  Again the caller said he had been trying to serve me unsuccessfully at home & asked what the procedure was for serving me at work.  Evidentially they haven?t heard that you can serve someone by sending them a certified letter, return receipt requested & the court will take that as proof of service; cheaper & less time consuming then this process server  who has now evidentially been missing me for 2-3 months now?  But I digress?The owner, like my supervisor, Tom, didn?t think I would want that (Wrong! ? at this point I would love for these guys to take me to court!) and asked if I could call this guy back.  AGAIN the phone number given was to the main office 888 phone number & AGAIN I talked to Joseph.  I told him I was trying to get a hold of Robert & he claimed that no ?Robert? worked there & that Robert was likely the local process server.  AGAIN he seemed surprised that I had not yet been served & after taking a minute to find my file since he was ?unprepared to have someone call this late in the proceedings..? (whatever!), he said he had it on my file as being disputed & that it was out for the process server to serve me.  I told him that yes, I was disputing it & that I guess I would just see his process server.

I did call the 888 # today & just asked for their address, I was asked for which department & I said ?Legal?, they then asked with whom I had spoken with since that would determine which address things should go to & I said, ?Joseph?.  The address I was given was 28241 Crown Valley Rd., Ste. F403, Laguna Niguel, CA 92675?If a process server doesn?t serve me by the end of next week, I will be sending a cease & desist letter from these scumbags!
