Never pay anyone unless they have sent you a debt validation letter, showing original creditor, date of original loan/debt, date last payment made, how much was owed to original creditor, and also whether this company is legally entitled to collect said alleged debt in your state.  If they refuse to send anything, or say they already sent information, then you can ignore them - scammers will not send any information because they don't have anything that proves you owe the debt.

Report them to the FTC, and your state's Attorney General.  You may also want to check with Shell to see if they sold your debt and if so, to whom.  I would not pay a dime to anyone if they cannot give you legally required information proving the debt is yours.

Debt Collector
Well I wish I would have researched this earlier. Back in Nov 2012, I was called by these Krane, Rosen& Associates. They kept harassing me about a debt that I had with Shell. Which I did have.  He offered a settlement deal of $690 in 3 payments of $230. I did them all, but I've never received a confirmation letter saying that this debt was settled.  Now I have a debt collector calling me about the Shell account. Now I feel sostupid. What can I do now?

Debt Collector
Tom Miller aka Creditors, using telephones me to tell me that he has important legal documents to deliver to me... I need to contact this phone number 1-888-351-1181 so that the "legal" documents can be served to me.  I call the number specified with the case # provided, and they can't find me!  they put me on hold, then find me by name, ask me to verify info, i say if you've already harrassed my coworkers, and my elderly parents, then I'm sure you have all the info you need on me.. and I further tell the company that discussing debt with someone other than the debtor is not fair debt collection practice.  She wants to know when I'll be home or at work, so they can serve me.. I tell them that I've already reported them to the NYS atty general's office, since this debt was never solicited by me, and my bank refused the "300" payday loan scam funds... she further pushed me and i said again, you've been reported to the atty general's office... she hung up on me!!!

Got the same thing from them.  I received a call from 360-1234-5678 (a fake phone number - you can't call it back).  She told me that she was from a Law Firm and wanted to confirm that I wold be home to receive service of Legal paperwork.  Then they told me that I needed to call 888-351-1181 to find out what the case is all about as the paperwork was delivered to her in a sealed envelope.  I asked her where she was calling from.  She said Florida.  I wonder how they were going to serve me these legal papers in Washington State if they are sitting in Florida in a sealed envelope.  I phoned the 888# and questioned them.  The woman answering the phone was rude from hello.  I refused to give any of my personal information.   She hung up on me.  I phoned back half a dozen time as at this point I knew this was a scam.  She hung up on me each time.  BE CAREFUL!

Had several missed calls from 270-134-5678 in the last few weeks on my cell phone.  Received another call today and answered, hoping to have my number removed from their database.  The caller said she was with the civil procedures division of Crane (sp?) Rosen and Associates and they were going to deliver documents to my husband tomorrow.  They needed to speak with my husband.  She didn't know my relationship with "ND" and I never gave my name or admitted I knew him, but asked her for more information.  Her name is Jessica.  She changed the subject when I asked where she was located and the name of her company.  She said she didn't work for Crane Rosen and Associates but the delivery person would know the details of what this was about.  She says they are in Kentucky.  She told me to have my husband call 888-351-1181 and gave a case number.  She kept saying she was in the procedures division but never would answer me when I asked a second time what company she works for.  She said it was a legal matter and could only discuss it with "ND."  I told her to remove my number from her list and not to call me.  She said that after "ND" called her, she would remove my number.  I told her to remove it now, and said to pass the message to "ND" because she knows I know him.  I told her that I never said I know "ND."  She eventually hung up on me.  I have left a message with the Kentucky Attorney General's office.  I suspected she was trying to collect on a fake debt.  My husband and I recently bought a house and had our credit reports run and neither of us has any debt, so I am sure it is a scam.

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

My husband got a phone call 10/8/12 from Krane Rosen & Assoc. saying they were going to serve me papers.  When questioned about why, they said they only serve the papers for a law firm and did not know what it was about.  The number they gave, 888-351-1181 answers to "this is not a correct extension" and disconnects.   I would not be surprised if I know receive a bill on my cell phone for a charge connected with that number.

I had the same thing happen to me yesterday! A man by the name Kevin Kellister said he was collecting money from me off of a check that had bounced from Value City for 47.00.. He wanted me to pay 647.00, but we can do a settlement for 247.00. He was rude and ignorant to me on the phone, I asked to speak to a Supervisor. He told me that they don't have a supervisor, they only have a director and the director was busy at the moment. So they put me on hold for awhile, and he came back and told me that the director had to leave because of a family emergency....

I just received this company's call this morning. First they were representing 7-11 to whom I had "bounced" a check to in 2006, when I told them that my bank made it right, they informed me that they were representing the bank and the bank had sold them my collection account. They had my old married name and old married address and were extremely rude to myself and my grandfather in law who took the call. They kept saying they wanted 600 some odd dollars for fees, etc and I told them they weren't getting that much on something I had no knowledge of (they supposedly had been sending stuff for years now) I then called my old bank (haven't been with them in 5 years) and they started searching, came up with nothing and found this message board. They also told me they don't "sell" accounts, they have someone in house who works on it.  Also, as it is a "legal" issue I proceeded to look my name up in the judicial system and hey guess what? There is no legal action against me. They went by Krane, Rosen and Associates when I called them, because I called this number back to make sure I had the right name.

I received a call from a guy stating he had papers to serve me tomorrow and wanted to know if I would be home. I started questioning him and he gave me the above number to call.  When I called they "verified" my address as a place i lived six years ago (i no longer live in that state) and said I owed 58.00 to Macy's from a check for 2006.  I said to him.."do you know the term statute of limitations." And he said yes and I said why don't you check the statute of limitations for my state and he said for new jersey it's 6 years. (mind you that is only for a contract but for a bad check it's only 1 year). So then he goes on and says this was written in May of 2006 and so we are at the tail end of the statute of limitations and I said actually no, you have run out of time it is now October of 2012 so good luck ever trying to sue me or collect on this. And he got real quiet and then said well good luck to you ma'am and I hung up.  They spell their name as Krane, Rosen, and Associates.

These scum suckers called my daughter and told her she would be served by a constable at home tomorrow.When she asked what it was she allegedly owed she was told it was on a mastercard she had with First Bank of Delaware. She has never had a credit card or any other account with the "First Bank of Delaware". I doubt there is a "First Bank of Delaware". The amount cliamed as due was $3800, the same as another poster.Seems like a popular amount with these lying sacks of s***. The name they used was Crane Rone & Associates.

First of all they can not make threats. It is against the Fair Collection and Reporting Act. Seconf call your Attorney General. Third you might want to call your local DA and an attorney. I am doing all of this now.

I asked for them to provide proof and they said they had already did that. I told them I never recieved the info and to resend it. They refused. I called the credit card company and they did not have any information about these folks and said I had no balance or a no record of a previous credit card found in the system.

I received a call about my son who hasn't lived with me for a number of years, I called to inquire about legal documents being delivered to my house and they wouldn't give me any information because of some law. I gave the information to my son so he would call and see what this was all about. I was curious so i tried goggling this company and I found all of these message boards so I warned my son about a potential scam. He called and found out it was an old bounced check that he had written and never paid, this company provided him with a copy of the original check, date, and account number. after he paid they also provided him with a paid in full letter which i forwarded to our family lawyer to verify and submit to the credit bureau. as far as our experience goes with this company is that they weren't scammers, only pesky collectors.   My advice to anyone being contacted by this or any other company calling you is to make sure they can provide you with proof that you indeed owe them

My Mother-in-law had gotten a call from JR and Associates.....could have been KR. Anyway it was for her grandson who is over 30. Scared her and she is very elderly. Called the grandson and he investigated and found out it was a SCAM. Please if a toll free number calls you DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY INFORMATION ON WHO THEY SEEM TO BE LOOKING FOR OR YOURSELF. There's no telling how far they'd try to take this but just remember if it's truly an emergency they would not be calling from a toll-free number, trying to fish for information from someone that's not even in your state. Be VERY wary of ANYONE "looking" for ANYONE.......

Same thing happened to my mother today. I have not lived in her area for 15 yrs. Told her same thing about serving papers and case #. She is elderly and it scared her. She knows enough now about scams not to divulge anything until she check with one of us kids. About 6  months ago I got similar call from Scott Davis and Associates, in Georgia area, but Tx branch made the call. I called not knowing what it was about. The "investigator" I was tranferred to told me I KNEW why she was calling and that I needed to stop playing dumb because the law and the courts would not put up with that crap from me. told her I wanted debt I owed info and she said for me to look up the bills and had not paid and "BINGO! you'll know who I am collecting for!
Threated to show up on my job and that my bank had asssisted them in locating me. I hung up and called the Attorney General's office consumer line. NOT the first time they had heard of the company and what they were doing was illegal and for me to file a complaint. I did. Makes me wonder if they have changed their name.

We just got simultaneous calls on my home and cell phone from 504-264-9414 so I answered the home phone. A woman on the phone stated that my husband needs to be home tomorrow for a civil suit document to be delivered. I was given a case file and was told to have my husband call 888-351-1181 to prevent the civil doc from being delivered. I called the 888 # back using *67 and the man who answered said it is KR and Associates. I am assuming this is some sort of debt collection company and not a law firm as they lead you to believe. I do not have any outstanding debts and do not appreciate the harassing calls. I checked the 504 # and it originated from New Orleans.  Does anyone else know about this?
