Yes it is a scam.  U have only taken out one pay day loan. But I paid it. Then started getting scam calls. They said I owed 400, and if I dudnt pay it was getting a subpeona. I will pay my bill if it's fir real. But it's not. I even checked the bank and the time they said it was deposited, I never received any deposit that time. Or any time close to that.  They were very rude. I got scammed once and they took money frim my account. I call the police every time. And they tell me not to talk to them. That it's a scam.

These are the two sites you can go to file a complaint about these scammers. Enough complaints should give them what they deserve.

Not clueless but it doesn't always work that way. They are scum & use illegal tactics & try to scare you into paying what you owe plus or a debt that has been paid. Yes it's bought and sold for pennies on the dollars and they add ridiculous fees and threaten you with everything they can. I have never come on contact with one who was nice or even somewhat respectable!! They have no idea the circumstances these folks have been through or even care. They care about getting paid themselves not collecting the debt. We fell on hard times and list everything and still have people threatening us 12 years later on accounts that we have documentation on as being settled!! They are scum & won't listen to anything except you giving them payment!!!!

This company is a joke. I have spoken with an employee there. The guy that runs this place is a short bus riding, mouth breathing coke head. No one is getting sued or garnished.  It's not even reporting to the credit bureaus. This attempt to collect a debt is a joke. Hang up the phone and block. That's what I did.

You nailed it. These people are bums preying on unsuspecting people. There is no court date. There are no lawsuits. It's not on my credit either. These people are scum bottom feeders. Report their illegal behavior to your AG and the FTC. And don't waste your time with their bogus threats.

Although it is a moral obligation to repay these loans if unfortunate to get in a position where you feel it is your only option, what most people do NOT know is that they can NOT garnish your wages, sue you, have you thrown in jail or any of the other numerous threats they make against you.  Check the laws in your state.  Why?  Because a "pay-day" loan is considered post-dating of a check.  Guess what?  In most states (my state included) - it is ILLEGAL to post date a check!  Therefore, they have NO legal recourse to collect on an unpaid loan because in essence (and legally speaking) it was not an unpaid loan, it was an unpaid, post-dated check.

Another issue is that when you do go to one of those on-line sites to apply for a "pay-day loan", even though you think you are on a specific company site - the majority of the time, it is actually a "broker" that matches you to a lender willing to give you a pay-day loan, and they have provided your information to DOZENS of "lenders" (ALL PREDATORS!).  So, even if you decide to NOT go through with the "loan" - months later you will be contacted, harrassed, and threatened from some rogue company claiming you owe them hundreds or even thousands of dollars that you NEVER received.  Some people pay up out of fear from the threats received all because they "thoght" i must be legitimate since the person calling has your information.  Well of course they do...because your information was sent to them & countless others.

No sense arguing with them...that is exactly what they want so they can first encite anger, then fear. Just don't answer or if you do, hang up without engaging in dialogue. Eventually they will stop calling.

So anyone that receives a call from this number is in debt?
Guess what?  I have dealt with operations calling outdated numbers seeking to collect a debt from people I never heard of.

So much for that theory.

You got a call from a collection agency. Thanks for letting everyone know that you received a call (about your unpaid debt) and also that you know how to operate your phone well enough to call back. It is also good information that the company has an answering machine of some kind. All in all great info.

You might also consider filing a real lawsuit, as opposed to the thug collector's empty threat, simply for making that threat. It's just one of many ways dirty debt collectors pay out the rope which abused consumers hang them with.

Hmmmm, not quite the way the FTC sees it. The first party remains the original creditor (OC) no matter how a debt is assigned or sold. Debt buyers acquire the right to enforce the OC's contracts but are also considered third parties, precisely because they did not issue any credit. Debt buyers and the collectors they hire would not otherwise be liable for their habitual FDCPA violations.

} if you're talking to me on a cell phone .... you have money to pay the bill

Classic "shillogic" on display .... In some homes the mobile phone is the only means of personal voice calls. Some users are running a small business on mobile tech. Hocking that phone simply to pad one collector's commission likely means a person cannot keep a job or find a new one. You want to keep beefing about fiscal responsibility then, Sunshine? Anyway, it's not your place to tell anyone how to budget their funds as a cheap bullying tactic.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

I recieved a call on my cell phone.  When I called the number back, i was told that I owed a pay day loan from 2012?  I never did this.  The lady had all my personal information including previous addresses.  She stated that if I did not pay today, she would turn it over to the courts in my county.  It was the first I had ever heard of this.  She wanted me to set up a payment today.  I Googled the Law office of Goldman, Lauder and Cross and there was nothing to be found.  I also then realized at around this time in 2012, I was filling out mortage loans to buy my first house.  Filed a police report for identity theft.

A woman called from 888-371-7446 with a case number and the make and model of my vehicle and my car tag number. She said that I was being sued for a loan from Advance America from 4 years ago and she knew the bank I used to bank with. I would not settle with her for the $450 out of court. She threatened that if it went to court they would garnish my wages and with court fees it would be over $2,000. I told her no, I would not settle for something I did not owe. She said they will be filing in the morning. I called Advanced America just to make sure someone hadn't taken out a loan in my name and they had nothing to do with it. This is a scam!!! I hate these and they called me at work!

They've now changed their message and company name to sound like a law firm. There are no lawyers in this office or lawsuits over a payday loan. No lawyer is gonna waste time to sue anyone for a couple hundred dollars. If that was the case you would see a judgment on you credit first, but if you check your credit these scammers aren't reporting anything to begin with. Have fun playing with them on the phone and them tell them to F---OFF. They are junk debt buyers and can do nothing to you or anyone.

Under the FDCPA no one needs a legal representation to make you stop calling. And notification from the debtor to the agency is sufficient. Guess you weren't paying attention during your FDCPA certification..er umm..training. Whatever. Nice try

You don't notify the original creditor of anything. Once the debt has been sold once, twice, three times ---whatever the original creditor has written off. They have sold you the right to collect on the debt and therefore have nothing further to do with the "case". There is no case. It's a debt and it's not even being reported to the credit bureaus. Nice try shill. No is getting sued or served. Just annoyed.

Feel free to post some (public record) court cases where you sued someone and were awarded some kind of judgment in any jurisdiction. No one is going to court. No one is getting served. I was in collections and your small s****y office does not have a lawyer, legal team, or any intention to sue anyone. Just scare tactics to try and collect on old re-sold debts.

Hey Anon

Then WHY don't they tell me what it is reference to and who the supposed debt is owed to and how much it is.  It's all cloaked in mystery  to create stress and tension so that people will give in and be afraid.  I want FACTS
