thats becasue someone probably provided their department with your phone number as a contact there is no way for them to look up an account by phone number to remove it so you would need to answer the phone provide the phone number they are calling and have them remove it but if somone is providing your phone number to them its not the banks fault. i work for a bank and we get this often people think we just come up with the numbers , just because you dont know how the system works does not make it a scam.

I called the tollfree number and pressed 5, as this seemed to be the only option that would allow me to talk to a Customer Service person. I got a CSR on the phone and explained that I've been getting these calls nonstop, and to remove me from their list. She asked for my phone number and said that she would forward it to a manager to have it removed.

I've been getting these calls for the last couple of months from a number 401-468-5599 which appears as a Warick, RI  number. It's an automated call, and leaves a message asking me to call Citizen's Bank at 1-888-441-2894. As I have never heard of this bank and have no account with them, I just ignored these as marketing calls for the longest time. I finally got fed up and called the tollfree number today. It's all automated and no line to speak to an actual person. Also, it didn't say Citizen's Bank when I called, but DDA(?), I'm fed up.

I have gotten about a half dozen or so calls, usually at around 8:30pm.  The voice mail said that it was an important message from Citizens Bank and to call 888-441-2894.   I finally called back.  The message stated: "Thank you for calling the DDA Dept. If you are a Military peron press 5, If you would like to make a payment using our automated system press 1, If you are a customer or collegue callin in regards to a checking acct or overdraft acct press 2."  No option for customer service.  I finally got a person and they could not tell me why I kept getting these calls.  I do not, nor have I ever had an account with Citizens.   They took my phone number to note that there is no account associated with it.  I have been getting alot of calls like this, I think my problem is that the last person to own my number had ALOT of financial problems and now I am getting all the collector calls.

I got a recording that they represented Citizens Bank and that I needed to call them back as soon as possible.  I contacted Citizens Bank.  It turned out that I owed Citizens $258 that I had no idea was due.  I am glad they called.  So, a call from 8884412894 is not all bad.

What companies usually do is outsource their dirty work to foreigners for cheap. It's not a bank your calling its probably an outsource center which is why they need your social or account #.

They called me and I answered.  They said they represented my bank and wanted the last 4 numbers of my ssn. When I told them what for and I will contact the bank directly, they told me they could not continue the conversation and hung up on me.  It's funny though, because they knew my first and last name.

I work for the bank...it's a real number for Citizens/ Charter One Bank (name is different based on where you live). It's called the DDA Collections department. They try to collect and/or negotiate overdrawn checking accounts and they sometimes also place holds on accounts if you report unauthorized activity. However, if in doubt, never give personal information. Just call your bank's customer service via a number you already know is good and proceed from there.

I called back this number after they called me.  I was asked for a ssn# and refused to give it, i was then asked for m checking account number and last 4 of ssn# to pull up my account.  i gave it, and asked what "DDA" stood for?  the woman told me it was "demand deposit account" or in lay terms "checking account." turns out my account was actually overdrawn with charter one bank and the lady was able to put me on a payment plan to repay my balance and put a freeze on my account to stop the fees.  i am actually really glad i called back.  i asked about "citizens bank" and was told that it is also part of "RBS" which is a bigger bank that owns both companies.

I would highly recommend you call back this phone # if you do get it on your display.

DDA Collections is specifically set up to collect debt for the major banks.

I actually ran into some trouble with my checking account (With Citizen's Bank), and called Citizen's Bank and asked to be transferred to the collection's department. First I was accidentally disconnected, so I called back and asked for the direct number for their collections departments, at 1-888-441-2984 was the number they gave me. I never actually had to directly call it, as I called Citizen's Bank back and they successfully direcedt me to their collections department, but I am just reporting that the number they gave me, is the 888 number that's in question right now. I don't know if it's a scam, but I don't believe that Citizen's Bank would give me a telephone number that's a scam... But I would never just enter my banking info...

This number called me...and it turns out that they think that someone just gave my phone number as a "fake number" on a credit application or something.

I have no accounts with Citizen's Bank nor Charter One.  The bank accounts I do have are not overdrawn.  I refuse to call them back particularly since they didn't even leave a message.

this is obviously fraud to me
received similar call, about Citizen Bank account
the reasons i believe being a fraud:
1) i called with my bank, they have nothing to discuss with me
2) i received the call on a business cell phone line that i never disclosed to my bank

So, i also wonder about those posting here stating that this is legit

I also received the same call to my cell phone saying this was Citizen's Bank (which is my bank) and said to press 1 about my account.  It would not pick up to a person.  I typed the number into Google and this thread came up.  Thanks for posting now I know it's a scam.

Last year we went through the same scenario.  Man from 'Citizens Bank' calls and asks for my husband by name, middle initial and all.  Concern over his business account.  He has none.  Asks for SS and account numbers.
When my husband called back , they denied calling.
This year same as last year.  I Googled the number and my husband will not be calling them back.

The call first came through as "Unknown Caller", but the call went through to my answering machine which asked me to call 888-441-2894 about my Citizen's Bank account.  They were calling me because I have an overdraft on my account that they are trying to make sure I deposit money in account to clear the transaction.  They asked me for my Social Security Number which I would not give because the reason my account is overdrawn is because of fraudulent charges on my account.  I told them I was working with my local branch and they are taking care of it.  When I wouldn't give them my info. directly they transferred me by phone to Citizen's Bank, so I would know they are connected.  Once I was transferred I verified the info.  If you get a call from this number check your balances on any bank accounts before you call them back.

Just received a voicemail msg from that number, claiming to be from Citizen's Bank.  In the msg they said it was for the acct of 2 names, both of which are not me.  I called back the number, was put on hold, then explained that the names that they have associated with this number are not correct.  The girl then read off the number that they thought was mine.  It was incorrect.  They then asked for my phone number, which I gave to them.  She then said I might get one or two more calls, but my number is now on their list of do not call ones.

Whether it is a legitimate call or not, NEVER give them your Social Security number. Just give them the last 4 digits of it, that is all they need to verify.
