Yes, I had the same thing happen to me today about a payday loan that was paid off in 2009 and they tried to say with fees, etc..  I owed them  over $400.  thing is.. My credit has been cleaned as of 2011 and it is not on credit reports nor in collections.....   So wouldn't this give me grounds for suing their sorry tails?!  Seriously wondering if I should talk to an attorney because this is crazy!  They are showing  something that is not true.

I've been working with the internet for 23 yrs now and have never and will never post my personal info on the web for any reason!
I would never apply for an online loan   need money then go to a bank

These people are total scam! Don't pay them a dime. Report them to the FTC & Attorney General's office. And consider getting a lawyer to sue these jerks. I have been receiving calls from these people for over a year now. Always a different number and person calling. Claim they are process servers wanting to serve me. Yeah right, since when does a process server call you?! They also claim that the are filing criminal charges, which isn't true because the only ones that can file charges is the prosecutors office and they decided which cases to proceed with. These people are a joke. They just tried to scare the crap out of people to get you to pay. They almost got me put I cancelled my debit card. A Melissa Hopkins left a voicemail on my phone at work saying that they have pending criminal charges that the original creditor wants to pursue. These people left a recorded message of their lies and are clearly breaking FDCPA laws. Looked them up on the BBB and they have an F rating and there address cant be verifed, yay that sounds legit. They also claim to be a law firm, however they are catagorized as a collection agency. Most collection agencies arent the greatest to deal with but even the legit ones follow the rules-barely. I spoke with an attorney regarding what these people are saying at they told me that this is a scam. I also called the original creditor and they stated that they are not affiliated with them at that they are not pursuing charges. If you don't pay them eventually they will go away, hopefully. I will be contacting the Sheriff Dept and the FBI as well. There is also a new Consumer Proctection Agency that you can report to them to as well. Good Luck and dont let the scare you. Remember they are not legit!

If you research they have to notifiy you by certified mail and give you ten day to comply and only then can if you do not  they can  file a civil suit. Then you will be summons by a police officer or a certified letter. Call the county court house and if out and when you find out if it is not true file civil and possible criminal charges against them. Also check your state laws in some states you can recorf your own voice and if they happen to be on there oh well.

Got the same call from Rob Davis. I was very stupid & fell for it because he did have the name of a pay day loan company I owed money to. When I learned it was a scam, my bank did a conference call. We got passed around from Miss Moore to Arron. With the banker on the phone I asked Arron for his company's business license number. He refused to give it. The banker asked him for it to verify he was who he said he was & he would not give. After a lot of back & forth we hung up. Don't be stupid like I was. I did report this to the FTC.

Interesteing that you received a phone call the same day on the same exact original creditor Cash Central.  My boss at work called me at a meeting I was at to give me a message from a place that said they were trying to locate me to have me served with papers and gave a phone number to call back along with a case number.  When I called the number they answered USC and asked to give an extension number or to hold for the next available agent which turned out to be the same as the extension.  This scared the crap out me when I got the message and I think that is what they intended it to do.  Make a long story short, I have worked out a payment arrangement and now that I have had time to check this out and go back over in my head after calming down about what was said, the more I feel in my gut this was a scare tactic maneuver to get me to pay up.  The original debt goes back to 2009.  I have not heard anything for a  long time regarding this debt and now all of a sudden I get a threat of a summons?  I looked up in the public court records to see if a complaint was filed and summons issued and there is none, not any case number representing this supposed summons I am supposed to be served.  I also found this USC on the BBB website and they have an alert posted for this place along with an "F" rating because mail has been returned from the address. I told these people I was willing to work out an arrangement according to what I could financially handle, but they said pay up or go to court.  so when I agreed to pay some and work out the rest later, they said they were going to cancel the process server from serving me the paperwork.  How can I be served a summons when it hasn't even been filed with the court and better yet, how can anyone cancel a summons en route to it be being served to someone once it has been filed with the court? I am so fed up with the harassment that is being used on people who are truly in financial turmoil. Now I don't what to think.  Am I just really gullible or are they going to any means possible to collect?

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

Debt Collector
Hello, I've had the same problem. I was contacted by a man today by the name of Andrew Middlebrooks at 1-888-324-4980, stating that I needed to return his call because I intentionally defrauded a financial institution by writing a bad check which was processing due to these pending allegations which will be filed through Maricopa County. He claims that prior to his arrival, he is obligated to let me know that he wants to schedule for a place to meet him so I may be served the paperwork to avoid being served at my place of employment. He provided me with a case number #1379765. When I did, in fact, call them, I spoke with a Daniel Williams, who asked me for the case number and the last 4 digits of my social security number. I requested the name and address of the company and what it was pertaining to and he said that he couldn't give me that information until I gave him the case number and the last 4 digits of my SS# to prove my identity. I told him that if he knew my social security number, he could repeat it back to me and I would tell him if it were correct or not. He did manage to get the case number and the last 4 digits of my SS# out of me so I could find out who was the creditor was. He claimed that it was CashCentral from a loan that I took out in 2010. I explained to him that I was in debt settlement and that CashCentral was one of the creditors enrolled in my program and that what he was doing was illegal. He claimed that he was not a law firm, but a process server, trying to locate me to serve paperwork on me. I asked him what USC stood for and he said that it didn't stand for anything. I asked what type of firm was it; he said that's exactly what it was, a firm, as I just said it. I asked him what he deals with; he said, people like me. He then transferred me to an attorney by the name of Andy. What attorney answers the phone, stating his name is "Andy"? Talk about unprofessional. This man then went round and round with me. I asked him for his address and he started quoting a P.O. Box to me and I then requested the physical address. He claimed that he couldn't give it out. I finally got frustrated and hung up. I was looking through the threads and noticed numerous phone numbers for this company and started calling them to see if they truly belonged to this company. Each and every number that I called, stated the same recording "You have reached USC. If you know the extension of the party you are trying to reach, please dial it now. If not, please press zero for the next available representative." I'm telling you right now that this is a scam. What company has 52 phone numbers that all lead to the same recording. I got a phone call on my cell from an unkown local number.  I sent it to voicemail.  They called back and I sent it to voicemail.  This time they left a message - a Katy Anderson called stating a formal complaint had been filed against me for passing fraudulent checks.  To complete service of process, she said she needed to verify my home address and place of employment.  She said it was unfortunate that she missed me by phone, but that it was my legal right as the "defendant" to contact the "plaintiff" directly at 888-315-6585 and reference case number 1383081.  As I hung up from the voicemail, she called back again!  I asked her what company she works for, and she stated USC Mediation Law Firm.  She also stated she was a process server in Texas and she had been contracted to "locate" me.  Being a licensed process server in Texas, I asked her for Supreme Court issued Process Server ID number - she gave me 1383081, ironically, which is the same as my case number.  I pointed out to her that she was certainly mistaken because process server ID's are much longer, as an example I gave her mine....awkward silence...so then I asked her to view the complaint and give me the docket number that the complaint was filed in...more awkward silence...I repeated my question and she stated she was transferring me to the legal department...in doing so she must have been flustered about my questions because she disconnected my call.  Pity.

So Glen, how much is this USC fraud company paying you to act like a jerk to everyone who has been scammed by them? Your probably just sitting at your computer all day getting paid to be a jerk. I bet that you owe more debt than any of the rest of us do, thats why you defend a fraudulent company, to try to get out of debt. Get a life, and a real job!

I just recieved a call from an unknown number, they said that I had two counts of fraudulent checks, and the police was on their way to serve me with a court summons. They gave me a court case number, and the supposed law firm name of USC, and told me to call USC right away at a number of 1-888-224-8264, before the police got to my house to serve me. I called the number and it said it was USC, and if I didn't pay them with a credit card, that the police would arrest me for bad checks. I was stupid and gave them my debit card number, but when I called the county courts and found out that the court case number they gave me wasnt even legit, I cancelled my debit card. I have three kids and I am a single mom, this company had me scared and crying, thinking I was going to jail. It is a fraud and they just try to use scare tactics to rip you off, by the way, they would not give me an address or let me send them a payment in the mail, they had to have a debit card number, the supposed Attorney I spoke to was Mrs. Strong, Beth Strong, ( as she said to me). Please beware so they don't get to you. And as for "Glen", You have to be working for them to talk to people like that, I pay my debts, but everyone has hard times,and it does feel good to be out of debt, but it doesn't feel good to get scammed and ripped off, and pay out money that you don't owe. My kids need that $800 that I almost gave to this fraudulent company, just because I was scared of going to jail.

My husband has been receiving these phone calls for over a month now, I decided to call in place of him.
The number I was given is 877 890 5641
The first person I spoke to was Kathrin Stevens, I asked to speak to her supervisor because the information she was giving me was incorrect and fraudulant.
She transfered me to a lady named Barbara, whom then transfered me to Jordan Simms.
Mr. Simms stated to me that they would serve him at work if we did not pay by a certain time today. They only accept valid credit debit or prepaid card.
Once, I stated to them that I am a legal aid, and what they are doing is not only a scam but against the law. I told them to serve my husband, I want to see the paper work- they hung up on me.

Debt Collector
Two seperate "collectors" called me on the same day with different stories. The first lady was very nasty and demanding.. She claims at first it was FRAUD then she changed her story and said it was from a  debt in a payday loan. She claimed I owed 1,000 + I said it was impossible I payed my loan off, she waited a minute then said I only owe them $250. I will be honest this has never happened to me so at first I was ready to give her my debit card info she brought up my home address, and even my mothers address. I told her she would have to call back in 2 hours while I was on lunch, she then spoke to her "supervisor" he granted me a 2 hour grace period. She mentioned how they tried to send me a letter but it was returned to sender, she also mentioned I was going to be "picked up at my job" . The second time I spoke to her I started asking more questions I asked for their fax number to show them proof of my payment history, and also asked her to fax me something about my debt, which she said she could not do and quickly changed the subject. Then asked me to put my H&R director on the phone( when she knew I had called her from my cell phone since I was at lunch) he was actually sitting right next to me coaching me as I had her on the phone. I gave her his extension and she proceeded to call him shortly after she hang up on me. She left him a vmail asking my work address, in the vmail she brings up my whole social number!! The second guy who called was clueless and just wanted me to call back to verify my address, never mentioned anything else!! Get name was Valerie Thompson and his was Calvin Murphy..
