These people are total scam! Don't pay them a dime. Report them to the FTC & Attorney General's office. And consider getting a lawyer to sue these jerks. I have been receiving calls from these people for over a year now. Always a different number and person calling. Claim they are process servers wanting to serve me. Yeah right, since when does a process server call you?! They also claim that the are filing criminal charges, which isn't true because the only ones that can file charges is the prosecutors office and they decided which cases to proceed with. These people are a joke. They just tried to scare the crap out of people to get you to pay. They almost got me put I cancelled my debit card. A Melissa Hopkins left a voicemail on my phone at work saying that they have pending criminal charges that the original creditor wants to pursue. These people left a recorded message of their lies and are clearly breaking FDCPA laws. Looked them up on the BBB and they have an F rating and there address cant be verifed, yay that sounds legit. They also claim to be a law firm, however they are catagorized as a collection agency. Most collection agencies arent the greatest to deal with but even the legit ones follow the rules-barely. I spoke with an attorney regarding what these people are saying at they told me that this is a scam. I also called the original creditor and they stated that they are not affiliated with them at that they are not pursuing charges. If you don't pay them eventually they will go away, hopefully. I will be contacting the Sheriff Dept and the FBI as well. There is also a new Consumer Proctection Agency that you can report to them to as well. Good Luck and dont let the scare you. Remember they are not legit!

This person said she had an envelope on her desk with my name on. Would not reveal who it was from. Just gave me a number 855-210-0478 to  call. Said she is giving me a chance to contact before a summons is delivered to my job. When asked what her name was, she said "good luck" and hung up. I am tired of these people calling my job. I work for a state agency and I will put this in the hands of security if they don't stop.

Okay,  these people  had some woman (very official sounding) threaten me with getting served a summons for check fraud and breach of contract on a Payday Loan?/Advance?
Now she lists a phone number to call (which I did)  and it's this USC? Med. Law firm or whatever.  Anyhow, they say I owe money to Advance America?  for a loan or advance?  I  don't recall ever making one with this company and they say I could be served any day now and I can "rectify" the situation if I pay them,  won't give me any information about the company though,  no phone number, nothing.   they said I had to do all the negotiating through them.   Now I have made settlements before and usually as I recall,  you can do it straight through the company as they want their money.  Oh yeah, they also won't mail any complaint or bill, etc.   saying that I can just wait for the summons.   I have to admit it really rattled me today, any thoughts?

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

I recevied a call today from my supervisor stating that someone from USC called and left a message on his voicemail stating they wanted to know how do they go about serving papers to me on my job. He called me first instead of returning the phone call, and gave me the number.  I called back and pressed (0) for the operator. I asked him what type of company it was and he said they handled repos, home forecloures and so fdorth.  The nasty rude dude asked me how did I get the number and I said it showed up on my phone and he said "no it didn't) in return I said well how do you think I got your number if it did not show up on my phone and he called me a liar.  I told him I was not going to argue with him and I hung up.

I received a phone call from this bogus company today. Listened to the same accusations as others have mentioned on this site. Yes, they were very believable and actually did reference a loan I had taken out back in 2008. I paid this loan in full though and found the bank statement to prove it. Called the company back and was told to fax them proof that the loan was paid off. I was angry and called the FTC immediately to report them. I have zero tolerance for scammers! Seriously, why don't these scumbags get an honorable job and contribute to society instead of fleecing innocent people.

USC Mediation is a debt collection agency using extreme illegal practices.  They use numerous phone numbers and names.  They will not provide company address, they will not comly with legal practices, and their methods are designed specifically to scare people into providing financial information so they can withdraw money. Often no money is even owed or the accounts are so old that the statute of limitations has run and you no longer can be sued for the debt.  These are debts that follow a civil process and are not criminal.  No sheriff is coming to your doorstop and you're not going to jail.  The only legal remedy available to anyone collecting a consumer debt is to make harassing phone calls, and file suit against you (generally in small claims court) in which case you'll receive an actual petition and summons, and have 20 days to submit a written answer to the court.  Keep in mind that this rarely, if ever happens with agencies who engage in illegal practices. USC goes to great lengths to avoid being prosecuted themselves by the FTC for illegal practices. The BBB receives numerous complaints as well.  So when they call and threaten, simply hang up or say go ahead, I look forward to being served.

I received one of these calls today. When I began asking questions regarding the company, I was told that I had better watch my tone and to stop being sarcastic.  The woman was INSISTANT on getting my debit card info threatening court, being served at home or work, breach of contract, fradulant check so on and so forth.

When I flat out refused to give my debit card the lady became real nasty and hung up on me. The only reason I called them back was five minutes before this I received five phone calls one after another by the same man threatening me.

This 'company' needs to be stopped

I got a phone call from someone who said they worked with the county sheriff dept that i live in and want to set up arrangements meet me to serve me with a summons. This was for fast500cash early payday that I didnt pay yet and went into collections, the woman said I would get arrested for writing a bad check. I said I never write checks so thats impossible I only use my debt card, she then gave me a phone number to call to work it out. I asked what her phone number was and she hung up on me. So I thought this was some kind of scam.

The company said they were a law firm and are attempting to collect a debt and if I didnt pay they would serve me with court papers. the 500.00 I borrowed turned into 900.00
I said someone already called me and wanted to meet with me to serve me papers, she said if I pay then they will stop that.
I asked her for her company name and address then said I'll call her back because I want to research her company and also call my local sheriff dept and see if I have a warrent or need to be issued a summons. she told me that if I didnt pay the people would be waiting for me when i get home to serve my papers. I asked her, what address do you have on file and she didnt know.

I called my sheriff dept and they told me I dont have  a summons waiting to be served.

These people are a bunch of liars and scam artists, trying to get more money then whats owed to them.

I as well was contacted today with all the same threats of fraud, contacting my supervisor, seeing me in court and what not.  When I asked them to send me something they denied. When I asked if they had a website, they never answered.  When the ?local? rep called me back (who they had never heard of when I called them about 20 min earlier) he declined to meet me at his office or at a neutral location, as in a coffee shop, like I recommended.  This is a SCAM.  Read your laws know your rights.  DO NOT give any personal info on the phone.

Since receiving my call I did some research and these are the numbers that many have had to call for this same company.  There is also a list of the names that different people were told who to call.

I had a message on my home phone last night. The lady left a number and said that I was going to be served a summons and that I was going to be taken to court and that they would indeed have me served at my workplace. I called the number back and both times it went straight to voice mail. I really can't find any information on the internet regarding this company, not even a location. And I have no idea what debt they are referring to. It's really starting to make me wonder...

I recieved a call from this number, after they had called my very ill mother at home, claiming that I had an unpaid payday loan (which I had not taken) and that if I didn't give them $500 they were going to come to my place of work and arrest me for fraud because this transaction was a federal offense given that it occured over the internet. Watch out. They are very nice on the phone and believable. They had a lot of my information and used it to try to take $900 from my bank account!!
