It is Sun Trust I called their 888suntrust number and they did have a hold on my credit card due to someone using the wrong code

It is truly Suntrust fraud. I tried withdrawing money from one ATM that ended up being out of order. Went to one next door & my card was declined. I called the #, & like you said, they mentioned the $ amount that I attempted to withdraw & asked if I was the one attempting to do so. Asked for the last 4 digits & I provided, then they unblocked my card once I confirmed it was my withdrawal.

Hang up call. But if this is REALLY SunTrust, I do not have any credit cards or bank accounts with SunTrust.

This IS the legitimate number for Suntrust Bank's Fraud Protection. I received an automated call from this number for my husband this afternoon. Before getting in touch with him and giving him the number I called our local Suntrust branch and asked for them to confirm that the number was for their fraud department. Once confirmed, he called and found it was due to him using his debit card twice at the gas pump when filling up. Because some gas pumps limit the amount you can run at a time and his 44 gallon tank surpasses that amount he had back to back purchases that alerted the bank system. If you receive a call from them it would be wise to contact Suntrust just to ensure that your accounts haven't been compromised. Failing to do so my cause a hold on your accounts or cards.

Received two calls today about fraudulent Suntrust charges.
The second call worried me. I called the fraud number on Suntrust's website to verify if this was legit. She said yes, that number is a suntrust number.

This number is legitimate. If you call your bank or 1800suntrust they can also verify the suspicious activity on your card. They prevented thousands from being taken after a few smaller unauthorized debits were used. So thankful for their fraud alert system!

It's possible that someone has opened, or attempted to open, an account of some type in your name. It is also possible that your phone number is listed on someone else's account, either as a fraud or by accident.

This number is for the SunTrust Fraud department, and is not a scam. I received 3 calls from them that I ignored because I didn't recognize the number. When I googled it a little while ago, I was led to this site where some people said it was SunTrust and some said it was a scam. Just to be sure, I looked at my SunTrust account and saw charges for a Winn-Dixie in Miami, FL, when I am in Atlanta, GA (and there aren't any Winn-Dixie stores in this area anymore.) I printed my statement and went to the bank, where I was informed that they had been calling me to verify the charges, but that they didn't leave messages because they wanted to be sure that I was the actual account holder. It appears that someone skimmed my check card number from a Kroger fuel pump in Atlanta three days ago and then went to Miami. If you receive a call from this number and are still unsure about it, I would check your account for fraudulent charges, and then call the number on the back of your card and ask to speak to the Fraud Department, or go into your nearest SunTrust branch.

This is not a scam, this is actually a number from Suntrust. This number tried to call me 3 times one day and I did not answer. Later that day I tried to use my card and it was declined. I called my bank and they confirmed this number and told me they froze my card because of an expensive out-of-state purchase. This saved me hundreds of dollars on my account.

I just called this number because I was in Goodyear and my card was declined. Yesterday I had 3 calls from this number, but no one left a message. I just called a Suntrust customer service number from their website to find out why my card was declined and asked if the 888 number was legit. So I called the 888 number and they only asked for my last 4 digits of the card number and last 4 digits of my ss number. They need to verify that you are the person calling. Turns out McAfee tried to charge me $99 and they declined it because they said it looked suspicious. Now Suntrust said they are going to have to send me a new card since they think someone has my number. I think McAfee is trying to charge me because maybe I pressed a wrong button on their stupid a** promotions - I hate that company!!! Anyway, I don't want to take a chance, so I am getting a new card just in case someone really does have my number. Suntrust is sending it in the mail in 3 to 5 days so if I get it, that means the 888 is a legit number. The only problem I have with Suntrust is that they called 3 times, but they did not leave a message telling me why they called. So, when I went to Goodyear and my card was declined, I was a little pissed. If they are going to cancel your card, they need to let you know - either leave a freakin message, or send me an e-mail. Don't leave me in the dark! It's a shame you can't trust anybody these days, but it seems that the 888 number is legit.

Not a scam! It is the Suntrust Fraud Department varifying charges on your account as a precaution. Yay Suntrust!
Littlebit 2014-02-25 03:57:59 Unknown
It is the fraud department for Suntrust. It is not a telemarketer. They are right on top of supposedly fraud activity which is wonderful! I love the security precautions they have in place!

I'm sorry I didn't answer this. I just saw 3 transactions on my card. This is really going to F me up as my car payment is scheduled to come out of this account. I hope they can help me tomorrow!

I called the number on the back of my Suntrust Card and sure enough they connected me to the Suntrust Fraud and Claims Department at 888-494-0586 and wanted to confirm that I was the one that had used my ATM debit card. The number is legitimate.

Just got a call from this number at my work. The caller ID showed up as "800 Service" which I've noticed comes up mostly one fraudulent calls, but sometimes on legit calls here too. Upon picking up the phone, there was an automated female voice introducing herself as Sophia with Peers Capital, and invited me to stay on the line for something credit related. Press one to be connected to a person, press nine to be removed from the call list. I pressed neither, just took down the info for the FCC complaint I'm going to go file.

This number called me 2x today. I blocked it and then called it. It is Suntrust. Then I called the company I had hired for repairs on my house to verify they are the ones using my number. Seems legit. I know it is irritating to go through the hassle of verifying, but I am glad they are double-checking. They only asked verification of my name and zip code. Did not ask for card # or pin.

Like everybody else on here, I checked to see if this number was legit first. With all the messages on here I was convinced it was a scam but I decided to check my account anyways. Lo and behind I had a charge from target which I hasn't been to in months. Looks like my info was also taken in that while debacle where hackers got a bunch of people credit cards info. If in doubt just check your account people.
Mike 2014-02-05 17:26:13 Telemarketer
They are trying to sell capital to small businesses aka loans aka cash advances. The money is definitely not free and comes with a bunch of strings attached and high interest.
Brian 2014-02-04 22:09:01 Unknown
nomorobo blocked this 2X today. My credit card did not work this afternoon, so I called Suntrust from their website # and verified it was Suntrust trying to verify a charge I made online this morning.
Rick 2014-02-03 20:44:22 Unknown
Not a scam, I called the number on my debit card to verify.
Brittany 2014-01-26 18:25:46 Unknown
this number is really from the Suntrust Fraud center, its one of their many additional numbers (Suntrust owns a lot). I just recieved a phone call from them saying they canceled a $500 purchase that happened 20 minutes ago on walmart.com that I didnt make. So I gave them my information and they said they canceled it. After I hung up I realized it could have been a fake number and freaked out. I called the real number on the Suntrust website for fraud and the lady confirmed my card was just canceled, and also confirmed that suntrust had canceled the $500 charge on Walmart. I hope they find the people

I don't have any accounts or cards with Suntrust and still got a call from them with no message.
Looks "phishy" to me.

I received an automated call from 1-888-494-0586 from SunTrust, alerting me of potential fraud against my credit account. I too was wary about an automated phone call, so instead of calling that number, I called the number on the back of my SunTrust credit card and was connected with the fraud department. Confirmed that not only had two fraudulent charges gone through, at least 10 other attempts had been made on the same day (and declined by the bank's fraud department) from Great Britain, France, and Istanbul, among other places. In under 10 minutes, took care of identifying the two fraudulent charges (dispute form to be mailed next week), closing the current credit card, and getting a new card issued (7-10 days). Glad to know they're on the ball!
