Yes. I am going through the same things you alll are going through. This all started when I was dialing AT &T about a business matter and somehow my call was interruptted with this man named Ronnie Anderson who claimed he was from this marketing company named Money Ahead Now. He offered this 500.00  and 25.00 gift card for free for trying out a membership. He said I will only be charged a toal of $16.90 only for shipping/handling. He said that I could cancel within 20 days if I dont want membership and keep the cards absolutelty for free. I was told I will see a welcome package in the mail within 3 to five business days. I even recorded the conversation. Well, about three days I noticed that I had mutiple charges drawn from my account from all types of marketing companies. I am now in the process of contacting them all and cancelling. I think we all should get together and file a civil suit against these companies because its fraud. There are probably a lot more victims out there who have not spoke out yet.

My husband took the phone call with all the offers and agreed to do the 30 day trial.  I canceled the gas offer (which is the only one I ever received anything about) before the trial was up.  Then before I knew it I was getting charged 12.95 a month for some ID protection and 29.95 a month for Smartshopper.  Unfortunately, I didn't catch it until several months had passed and all they will refund is the last month's charges.  "We have a no refund policy" is what she told me.  I can't believe that my husband took the call and agreed to this and his name is not even on this account.  It's in my name only!  How do they get away with this?  Somebody needs to do something about this.

Rachael,
I called the 800 number that shows on your bank statement and got it cancelled.  Make sure that you ask them if they have other items showing.  I had FOUR different things.

I too, got take for a dicount package of coupons for discount on several sevices and trips and golfing membership and vouchers for gas of which you had to send all you gas reciept in and other when I was checking on someother deal but I told told him I didn;t want it but the next thing I know, I was givng them permission to take it from my checking account of which was a lot more than I'm sure he said.  When next I saw my bank statment, they had taken 39.99 from it.I did call and cancel as I undestand it was suppose to be a monthly charge. I dudn;t here from them for weeks until today, the package came, oupons for 15% off this and10% 0ff that, which I didn;t feel was much of a deal, especially for me, who is a 76ear widow, who does't do all of these things. I;ll learn I hope before I die. Well I got it off my chest.

I made the mistake of answering the call after many, many of them that I ignored. I usually just say no to this sort of thing but got sucked into the Auto Savings and the Leisure Travel. I got two charges on my credit card for $2.95 for shipping (it was just an envelope so that was a rip off in itself). Then I was charged after 10 days for one of the "clubs"...I called the 800 number and they did credit the amount back to my card. I canceled at the same time. The second one offered a $25 rebate for gas so I mailed it in on July 12th-it stated it might take 2-3 weeks to process. After the 30 days I was charged for the first month on my card. I canceled via email and demanded a refund which they did. In the meantime I was still waiting for the $25 rebate....interestingly enough I got a letter in the mail dated the same day as my email to cancel. The letter stated that because I wasn't an "active" member I was not entitled to the rebate. THIS IS A SCAM AND A RIP OFF....I have sent off a strong letter to them stating just that! Something must be done about this sort of scam...

I got a call from them also but i got a call from them cause i do online surveys and i got a 300.00 dollar gas card from them and as long as i cancel in 15 days i am not charged but the 1 time fee of 24.95 which sounded like a good deal to me till i got there package i have to spend 300.00 dollas in gas over the next year and every month i have to save 1 recept for 25 dollars they only willl pay 25 a month till you get your 300.00 in gas coupons so it is alot of trouble you got to go threw to get the free gas but most people dont want to go threw that every month if it is not ecived by the company in the same month you got gas they dont pay so this is what i no i think it is just a bunch of trouble not sure if they will pay or not have not sent my frist gas eceipt in yet guiess i will find out soon good luck to you all hope they dont charge anyone if you didnt ask for the kit but when they call they talk so fast most of the time you will miss half of what they say if you ae not careful and keep asking them to explain everything agian make them tell you anything you ae not sue of you do have the right to refuse what they are trying to get you to take but if they say it is free you just pay shipping dont beleave that they say that to get you check cad number so the best thing is if you are not sure tell them no thanks and hang up

Visa Tackles Scam Practices
(Wednesday, April 28, 2010)
Visa, one of the world's largest credit card companies, is taking aim at "scam" marketing practices that were quietly used by some of the Internet's largest retailers in recent years.

Retailers will no longer be able to allow third parties to charge a customer's card without the card owner re-entering credit card information, Visa said Tuesday. This is Visa's response to one of the biggest scandals to rock online retailing in years.

Last year, the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation launched an investigation after learning that thousands of consumers had complained about receiving mysterious credit card charges.

The committee concluded that millions of consumers were misled into signing up for so-called loyalty programs with the help of companies such as as Classmates.com, Continental Airlines, Priceline, Orbitz, Buy.com, and many others.

Lawmakers said during hearings that these merchants had made an unholy but profitable alliance with one or more of three so-called post-transaction marketing firms: Webloyalty, Affinion, and Vertrue.

Under most of the agreements between the marketing firms and retailers, an advertising page is presented to shoppers while they complete a transaction at the retailer's online store. Many shoppers say they entered their e-mail address and pushed a large "Yes" button on the ad because it appeared to be a $10 cash-back offer or coupon.

Many of those who complained say they thought they were being rewarded by the retailer for making a purchase.

Buried in the fine print are the full terms of the deal. Customers are notified that by providing their e-mail address they are joining a membership program and agreeing to pay one of the marketing firms a monthly fee, typically between $10 and $20.

Many people said they didn't see this notice.

Visa's new requirement is designed to send a "clear signal to cardholders that a second purchase is being initiated and protects them from questionable marketing practices," the company said.

With the government leaning on them, many of the merchants involved have severed ties with the post-transaction marketers, which have also taken steps to alter their business practices. They haven't gone far enough, however, critics have said.

It could be related to another Online purchase you made -

A lot of online retailers will offer $$ of your current order - by accepting that offer you agree to a trial membership with some rip-off company that the offer is really from.  If you do not cancel the trial membership - you get charged monthly membership fees.  When you take the special offer - you are authorizing them to charge your debit or credit card you used for the purchase.  (even if you do not read the terms and conditions)

The reason they do this is NO one will willingly sign up for these worthless membership programs where the membership fee usually cancels out any savings you may get from using the program so they hide behind special offers.  They also make it next to impossible to cancel!

Counting on YOU the consumer not reading the Terms and Conditions of the special offer which are separate from the online retailers terms and conditions.

It could have been an $8 -$9 check from your credit card company for being a valued cusotomer. I get those regularly and shred them immediately -  they state clearly on the back that you are enrolling in a trial membership program if you cash the check.

I avoid these charges by reading the terms and conditions and privacy policy  on all websites I do business with before I start shopping or filling out forms.  (most online forms are designed to capture what you enter - even if you never submit it)  I do not do business with any website that shares my info and I never take advantage of any offer that involves trial memberships.

I had the same thing and I called the Autosavingsusa.com at 888-538-4791. Told her that I never authorized this transaction and do not want this membership and that I was charged $24.95.  She was very pleasant over the phone and canceled my account and told me they would reimburse me the  $24.95. I should receive it in 2-3 business days.

I too received a call from a man with a bunch of offers. He knew my name and account name already and so I felt like I had to say yes. I knew i would just cancel right away. Once I received the two packages I canceled my memberships online right away. Then a couple of weeks later a rogue letter addressed to me says that i have insurance with them. I paid no attention to it because I thought it was typical junk mail.
I barely realized that this company has been charging me 20$ every month for the last 5 months. My money wasted. I'm only a first year college student. :( Somebody help how do I cancel ?

Most of those websites capture information entered into their forms - even if you never submit it.

The most important things you can do to protect yourself:

1.  Read the terms and conditions on all websites  before you start to fill out forms.
This is where they tell you about the NEGATIVE option contract /charges you are agreeing to when you click on SUBMIT.  Most people do not realize they are agreeing to FAR more then they thought and end up with unknown but authorized charges to bank accounts and credit cards. (SCAMMERS count on you not reading them)

2. Read the PRIVACY POLICY - this is where they tell you that they SHARE/SELL ALL YOUR information including credit card numbers with others.

I have found a work-around on the required Ph# fields.  Enter a valid area code - and then 000-0000 as your phone number - NO CALLS!

My information got shared from a web site that I contacted about Dental Insurance. I didn't even submit the form (I thought better of it and closed the browser window), but somehow they still retained my credit card information and then CALLED me. I told them I was merely making an inquiry about the insurance, and didn't want any recurring charges of any kind on my bank account. I also told them that if they went ahead and did it, I was going to file a dispute with my bank and change my account number. STILL, they went ahead and shared my information with AUTOSAVE and POWERSAVE. Luckily for me, I have all my mail sent to a P.O. Box for security reasons. By a fluke, there was a mix-up with my P.O. Box fees not being received on time, and they sent back all of my mail...including the welcome packets from these 2 web sites. Both had charged $2.95 to my account, and both canceled my accounts with them when the information packets they sent me were returned as undeliverable. AND they refunded the $2.95 charges. I changed my bank account numbers to be on the safe side. I later called them to confirm the accounts were closed, and they assured me that there would be no more charges on my accounts. I made sure to tell them that my account number had been changed, and what they had is no longer good.

Rule of thumb for online merchants:
1. Always GOOGLE them to make sure they're legit before doing business with them. If other folks have had problems, they more than likely have reported it somewhere. I've tried using the online BBB without much luck. In order to make an inquiry about a web site merchant, the online BBB wants specific information about the merchant, like their landline address and phone number, that you may not have access to. And they want any and all names of the business and their web sites. I think they are totally useless as an online information format. If you GOOGLE the name of the company or web site charging you, you're much more likely to find scam or rippoff reports about them.
2. Don't use a regular credit card for online transactions. Credit card companies are notorious for dragging their heels on these type of transactions, and sometimes will side with the merchant and allow them to continue to charge you. Use a bank debit MasterCard or Visa. Your bank has much more clout in disputes like these, and will file a dispute for you right away with the merchant to get your money back, and recommend that you change your account and card number. There is one catch to that...you must have tried more than once to contact the company yourself, without any luck, before the bank will begin the dispute process. If you have found scam and rippoff reports about the merchant in question, make sure to let the bank know that when you file your dispute...they'll get the ball rolling right away. And if your bank acts like they can't do anything about it, don't you believe it. They are being lazy and don't want to bother with it. They are totally within their rights to investigate and dispute these type of rippoffs, so don't let them tell you anything different. In that case, you need to find a new bank that has your best interests in mind, and not the scam artists...and right away, too.

I received a call from them one morning and stupidly signed up for rebates, etc. They charge $2.95 for shipping of their package, which I have yet to receive. During the verification process they also sign you up for several other "free trial" offers that can charge anywhere from $1.00 for shipping to who knows what. (they caught me with Us Magazine and Shop Smart Savings Club for $1.00 and $2.95 respectively)

As far as I can tell, you must cancel each of these individually based on the customer service number provided on the charge.

Moral of the story: If it seems too good to be true, it is. Also, don't talk on the phone while half asleep ;)
