Keep getting calls from 1-888-576-1160, talked to a Dianna Rivera, told her company would like to settle a debt from 2003, if I didn't settle today they would be filing a lawsuit against me, I asked in what state would she be filing?  She reported that they would sell it to someone else and they would file in my state.  I then asked her about a statue of limitations, she did not have any info, I then asked for a return number to give to my lawyer( who is helping clear up past debt).  Dianna Rivera gave me 1-888-662-1779 for my lawyer to return her call. When asked she said she is in NYC.  This is a scam!! If they wanted a settlement the numbers would work to return phone calls.  Just laugh and hang up if you recieve a call from this number!

There's nothing strange about it. Debt collectors try to leverage the family against you. They believe your parents will have more success in convincing you to pay up than they will. If they are harassing your parents  your parents need to say this "That person does not live here & has never lived here. It is my understanding that you have the correct contact information for this person. DO NOT call back here again". If the calls don't stop, your family needs to gather some details of the phone calls and file a complaint with their state Attorney General's office.

Creditors have no legal right to harass family members, particularly if they do not even live at the same address. Older folks often choose less harsh responses when dealing with these situations but they need to be firm in their responses to the caller. After hearing the same response a couple of times, the collector will likely move on and try a different approach.

As for your reports being clean, they are likely trying to collect a debt that has aged off the reports. It is legal but they have no leverage against you except to make annoying phone calls. Which in itself is illegal if you have instructed them to stop calling you.

Remember, these are bottom feeders you are dealing with; they thrive on making people miserable because miserable people pay money to make them go away.

They have some old information on a debt that was legitimate at one time but I knew that I had paid because it is with US Bank and you can't have a bank account and owe another bank so...good for me, I told the very official sounding lady to please send me the  "legal papers" she was referencing and I would send her the proof of payment. I have never received anything in the mail and they call me every day.

I have spoken to several of their reps now and they all say the same thing. I have asked to be removed from the list and they will not remove me. I'm tired of them calling my cell phone everyday Mon-Fri between 9am-11am. Is there anything that can be done about this?

Got a call from this number twice already looking for a Dustin Latham with a case number of 386607 saying it was urgent that they talk to him.  I don't know and have never heard of this guy and neither has anyone else in my house.  They gave a callback number of 888-662-1779.  Keep on calling idiots, but I'll never answer.  I will block this number....until they start calling with another number.  Scammy scumbags

So this company called representing US Bank, actually having bought an account from US Bank.  The number I call them back at is 888-576-1260.  After 6 calls I got the company name as Credit Star Finance.  My particular situation I told them on 5 calls that I had filed bankruptcy and the US Bank account was included in it and that they are to call my attorney and not me.  Finally they called the attorney and took care of all of it.  They are extremely rude and difficult to work with but they are legit.

I had a debt with US Bank that was created because of THEIR mistake back in 2006. I noticed after moving that they never cleared it up as promised. I cleared it up then (again) and moved on. Exactly one year layers received a call from a debt collector. To my astonishment, US Bank never cleared it up the second time either. So, I went through the hoops with US Bank, once again (a year later), and cleared it up. One year later, ANOTHER creditor called. Clearly I was pissed by this point. I fought for DAYS with US Bank and got it cleared up. TWO years later I got a call from yet ANOTHER creditor with this exact scenario you all are reporting. Obviously, it sounded scamish so I didn't pay anything, sent them a legal document and called US Bank. TODAY, five years later I got a call from a company with this exact same scenario AND phone number but maybe now calling themselves Credit Star Finance or Alliance (I've forgotten at this point). Knowing what I do I told her to enjoy her day, in not so choice words, and started doing some research. A couple years ago my boyfriend actually paid one of these idiots prior to talking to me... Again, same scenario as we've all experienced.

Please people do not pay a dime to these people. Debt collectors by law cannot call parents, relatives etc., and they MUST provide paperwork of from where the debt originated.

Here's what I am finding more disturbing than these scam artists, what's US Bank's roll in this kind of behavior?!? My problem, as well as my boyfriends, with US Bank was an error on THEIR end due to a fee for a fee etc etc etc that led to hundreds of dollars, which is completely illegal. So, friends, I ask you all, what can we do to US Bank? Clearly, not only do they have bad banking manners and illegal, but apparently they are leaking information to unethical companies. I think this goes beyond the creditors. If anyone is interested in contacting me to possibly begin a class action lawsuit, please email me at doris.zurlo@gmail.com

AT and T gave me her old phone number 8 years ago... I called back to let them know to stop calling me and she starting grilling me about where "Eileen' was and how could they could find her.... When I continuously told her that this wasnt her number anymore, she got extremely rude and then hung up on me!!!! I cannot believe that some one could speak to someone like that. I'm not the dead beat....

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

This place keeps calling me and leaving nasty messages. I do not owe any debt to them or anyone else. After they call the next day, I receive a fold over letter from them. If you read it through, you will see they state on it THEY CANNOT COLLECT ON THIS BECAUSE IT IS SO OLD!!!!!!!!!!!! I CALLED THEM BACK JUST NOW AFTER RECEIVING THEIR CALL  AND A RECORDING CAME ON SAYING THEY DO NOT ACCEPT BLOCKED CALLS, AND FOR ME TO UNBLOCK MY NUMBER!!! THEY ARE A JOKE. YOU CAN MAKE THEM PAY YOU FOR CONSTANTLY HARASSING YOU. WRITE A LETTER AND SEND THEM IT AND ALSO TELL THEM YOU WILL GET A LAWYER, AND GO AFTER THEM.  My fiancé did this a few years ago, and got $1400 and the lawyer got the same. There is no reason for them to keep doing this.

These imbeciles seem to get the wrong person a lot or it's on purpose, who knows.  I don't answer these crap calls, so they left a voicemail with a case number "to stop action" for a person I don't know and never heard of.  Callback number was (888) 662-1779.  Hopefully, this is the first and only call, but if not, I've got a few open spots on my phone's blocked caller list....

This "company" continues to call me as well asking for someone else. Have reported them to the national and my state's DO NOT CALL list. They are unresponsive when told to take one's number off their call list. Same type of messages left for me as listed above. Just report them and do not respond. They have no true information about you and are confidence game runners.

I have received calls from this number and then a message left giving a case number for a person named Walter-which I have never known. I received these kind of harassing calls about 5 years ago - they stopped for a year after I was going to get an Attorney and News channel 7 involved then stopped for 2 years. The number that called was 888-576-1260 but the voice mail said to call 888-662-1779. I called the number that called 888-576-1260 when I asked who the person was and what company they were with they refused to give me their name and company name. Every time they claim that they have taken my phone number out of their system and maybe they do take it out of a system but they have a larger system they keep it in so that they can wait a year and harass again. The people that do this are idiots which explains why they do this for a living.

Received a call from this number, when I called it back, they asked for a person I never heard of right off the bat, and when I asked who it was, they hung up.  This happened twice  If they are calling from or for a business, shouldn't they have to relinquish their names or state of business?

My daughter constantly gets a call from this number. When I finally called it back, "Meredith" attacked me saying she didn't care if this was a little girls phone number and that they were getting pranked phone calls from her and her friends. Well, Meredith, do you think if you are getting calls BACK from preteen girls that maybe you don't have the right number? This lady was a total snot. Get a clue lady. Don't make it my problem that YOUR company wont stop calling!
