My college roommate emailed me this: wanted to pass on to you that some guy called me the other day asking for you. I told him he had the wrong number and he was sure he didn't. His name is James Fincher and have no idea where he is from. His number is 1-888-593-8401 ext. 2614.
This guy also called my childhood home and has called my cellphone over 50 x.

This is a debt collection company sometimes doing work for Capital One, They gave me their name as United Recovery Systems. The person I talked to "Stephanie" was pleasant and was not abusive. She did state several times that information they gathered was to collect a debt.

I'm aware (A) that a past-due debt has gone to collections and (B) that my personal experience in the present economy is not unique. Furthermore, I know that ignoring problems doesn't make them go away. But what is the strategy for dealing with collections calls when you are something more than underwater but less than bankrupt? Precedent has proven that this industry, despite all its glossy ads, is not interested in negotiating relief, even temporarily. With no way to satisfy their demands, answering their calls is nothing more than an unpleasant exercise in futility.
Tonya Alexander just called my 87 year old grandmother looking for me and it scared her. My grandmother belongs to a different time and place. When someone tells her it's important to speak with me, she takes it at face value and assumes there is an emergency. When someone insincerely speaks as if they know me personally, my grandmother assumes they are a really a family friend from Tulsa, OK (a place I have never visited) and she will give them the names of my pets and children if asked.
I am not convinced the legality of this extraordinary strategy. Can anyone tell me if the debt United Recoveries is attempting to collect is a matter of public record? If not, my privacy is compromised when an embarrassing private debt is revealed to a family member. This is not the stuff of law suits, but illegal is illegal. If it is indeed illegal, it should stop.
Anyone got any wisdom to share?

I changed my phone number to get that company to leave my son and I alone. Even put it as "unpublished". Caller ID: 888-593-8401 United Recoveries Collection Agency (URS), called my home again and said "we gave them the phone number." So when I call the phone company to see what I could do they said 'NOTHING".
Any ideas who a person can call to get this company to leave a person alone?
Thanks

Dont know the details. It sounds like Tonya Alexander out of Oklahoma has called a couple of my relatives at work looking to get a hold of me. That isnt right for them to call those uninvolved at their place of work. If it is for the bill i think when my account got closed i owed them roughly 1100.00 and now they have hit me with late fees and penalties and its up to 2300.00. I will wait for settlement no way will i pay that b.s.

This is the second time a neighbor has been contacted and asked to give information about our family. The first time it was a man named Don Russo who stopped a neighbor across the street and asked him to have me call this number. Today the lady next door received a call asking for her son. When questioned the person on the phone said they were trying to locate me and my husband. (We are in no way connected to her hearing impared son!) When I called the number and asked for Brook Swanson, the lady was in a meeting and no one could tell me what the business URS did or why they were trying to reach me.

Wow!! If you work in the legal field then you can see in the name what kind of business they are doing. And if you are really inthe legal field then you would know the law states harassment is calling without a purpose. With saying that then it would appear that the purpose of their call would be because you owe someone money. Do the math and return the call to pay your bill. LOL!!

A Jackie Brown from this number keeps calling my work. He leaves a voice mail but only with his name and number and says he needs to speak with me right away. He has never identified the company he is with. He has also called my mother's phone number trying to reach me, but does not leave a voice mail at her number. Today he went alittle too far... he called our neighbor and asked our neighbor to give us his number as he needs to speak with us immediately. When my neighbor inquired as to who he was, Jackie Brown responded... "they wouldn't want you to know... it's regarding a personal business matter". This man has gone to far and I'm going to do whatever I can to stop him! I work in the legal field and harrassing phone calls and especially calls to my neighbor will not be tolerated!

Caller (Mark Long) wanting us to give our neighbor across the street his phone number. Said it was an emergency. When inquired what it was about, became defensive saying that he could just call another neighbor.
