Was this from Destiny Vacations? Please let me know. If it was another company, I would like to know which one. I believe that there is a network of travel scam businesses operating throughout Texas, Florida, Georgia and perhaps beyond.  They all seem to be linked either by name, address and/or toll free number.

This is a scam. I am trying to establish the links between Destiny Vacations and other scam businesses. I believe that the same toll free number (888-596-0555) is being used by a number of affiliated scam businesses. I also believe that the confirmation number provided on the post card differentiates between the businesses. For example, our confirmation number from Destiny Vacations was DV0326.  Any one have any thoughts on this. Does this confirmation number sound familiar? We're looking into a class action suit against these thieves. Anyone with information and/or a desire to join in, please let me know.

What do all these listings mean? Is this just an attempt by Destiny Vacations to "keyword load" for Google placement? Any thoughts?

I got the card today claiming that I won a 5-day, 4-night cruise from Carnival... (1-888-596-0555) The card stated (in VERY small print) that you would be required to go to a meeting to purchase a time-share from "Condominium Travel Club" yet the postcard stated right on it that "(THIS IS NOT A TIMESHARE OR LAND OFFER)". BE WARNED - I have dealt with this company in the past and the "vouchers" they give are NOT honored by Carnival. NOR are they affiliated with Carnival Cruise Lines.

STOP these unscrupulous people from scamming anyone else!

Pennsylvania Sues Travel Firms for Deceptive Promotions
Companies allegedly offered free gifts with lots of strings attached

April 19, 2010

Vacation and travel promoters often entice consumers with "free" offers, but it pays to inspect those offers carefully. The word "free" is increasingly used as bait for unsuspecting consumers.

In Pennsylvania, for example, the attorney general's Office has filed a consumer protection lawsuit against a travel business from the Philadelphia area that is accused of using deceptive or misleading "free" promotions to market vacation packages. Also included in the enforcement action is a Pittsburgh area tour operator that closed suddenly, leaving more than 100 consumers unable to complete their travel plans.

Together, the two businesses owe consumers more than $163,000, the commonwealth says.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett filed a civil lawsuit against DreamWorks Vacation Club/Five Points Travel, of Montgomery County, along with company President Daryl T. Turner, of Cherry Hill, N.J.

Corbett said DreamWorks is accused of using "free gifts" to lure consumers to vacation club sales presentations, including offers of round trip airline tickets, hotel accommodations, restaurant gift cards, free gas coupons and other incentives.

"Consumers either did not receive their 'free' items or were later told that they would have to pay various fees in order to use them - making them anything but free," Corbett said. "Additionally, DreamWorks allegedly failed to disclose limitations and restrictions on the vacation packages they were selling, required consumers to waive their right to cancel contracts and misled consumers by using the names and trademarks of airlines, hotels, car rental agencies and other well-known businesses without authorization."

To date, the attorney general's office has received complaints involving DreamWorks Vacation Club and Five Points Travel from 52 consumers who are owed more than $139,000.

The lawsuit seeks restitution for all consumers along with civil penalties of up to $1,000 for each violation of Pennsylvania's consumer protection laws (up to $3,000 for each violation involving a senior citizen). The lawsuit also seeks a permanent injunction preventing Turner or his businesses from operating vacation sales companies in Pennsylvania or soliciting consumers for any travel-related purpose.

Seniors groups targeted
Corbett said the Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection has also filed suit against Bonnie and Bruce Butler of Allegheny County, who owned and operated Shangri-La Vacations, Tours R Us and Senior Tours of Southwestern Pennsylvania.

According to the lawsuit, the Butlers marketed their tour business to various church and senior groups throughout southwestern Pennsylvania, selling bus trips and travel packages until the company abruptly closed in September 2008.

Corbett said more than 140 consumers have filed complaints with the Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection, involving $24,000 in deposits and down payments that have not been refunded.

"The Butlers took up-front payments but failed to make the necessary travel arrangements, leaving a long list of consumers empty-handed," Corbett said.

The lawsuit seeks restitution for all consumer victims along with civil penalties of up to $1,000 for each violation of Pennsylvania's consumer protection laws (up to $3,000 for each violation involving a senior citizen). The suit also asks the court to prohibit the Butlers from operating any travel sales business until all restitution and penalties have been paid.

My brother and mother received a call from this number and it was to sell a walk in bathtub.  UNFORTUNATELY, the person was a very good salesman/woman and managed to get them to agree to a meeting at which time my brother signed a contract for approx. $14,000 for a walk in tub (with jets! my brother happily described) that was an unnecessary purchase.  The room the tub is being installed in, HAS a bathtub/shower combination, plus a separate shower stall in the dressing area.  My mother doesn't even like taking baths!  As long as I can remember, she has ONLY taken showers because she loathes the feeling of water coming up around her.  YES>> SHE IS AFRAID OF STANDING WATER - Because she cannot swim!  This is an ongoing battle with seniors and their inability to use good judgment about purchases.  My brother will now have to foot the bill alone, because I cannot justify the reimbursement of such expenses since it is an excessive and unwarranted purchase!  (I have the power of attorney over my mothers finances.)  I called the company to confirm whether or not my mother's name or signature appears on the contract.  Fortunately, her name does not.  However, they showed little or no concern when I stated that the cost was above and beyond what my brother could afford.

All travel clubs are scams. These people get upfront money then disappear. You can always get better deals on the Internet than they can get. One of the originators, Bill B. from Il has been shut down and thrown out of at least three states. The travel vouchers are virtually impossible to use. Destiny Vacations just opened in the DFW area. I'm sure they are a fraud. I talked to Brad at Infinity Vacations and told him what laws they were violating. Six months later, Gregg Abbott, our AG, indicted them.

TRAVEL SCAM - BUSTED BY FL AG

Florida Sues To Stop Travel Scam
Victims told club membership provided free travel

September 16, 2009

The deal sounded too good to be true. And in fact, it was.

Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum says Suncoast Incentives LLC's offer of a travel club with unlimited free travel was nothing but a scam and he's hauled the company into court.

McCollum's complaint alleges that the company owner Nicholas Congleton enticed victims to purchase travel club memberships for thousands of dollars, but failed to provide the incentives advertised. McCollum says his suit was prompted by the more than 500 consumer complaints his office has received.

Victims received advertisements for sales seminars that featured images of various commercial cruise ships. The advertisements encouraged consumers to attend the seminars and receive a free cruise.

Once at the seminars, consumers were allegedly told they would never have to pay retail price for travel again if they joined the travel club. Membership fees ranged from $2,495 to $7,495, and annual renewal fees ranged from $199 to $249.

The Attorney General's Economic Crimes Division determined the free cruises were not free and included substantial fees, often over several hundreds of dollars. Additionally, investigators believe the companies had a contract with only one condo association, and no contracts with any airlines, cruise lines, hotels, or motels. Former employees told investigators they would merely search online for price options, just as consumers might otherwise do for themselves.

Congleton is associated with several other companies, including Royal Palm Vacations, World Travel, and Capital Financial. The Attorney General's lawsuit has requested the Court prohibit Congleton and his companies from selling any travel packages. The lawsuit also requests full consumer restitution and recovery of the costs of the state's investigation and litigation.

We sat through sales pitch for the travel club this week.  Have to admit it was very low pressure and took a little over one hour.  Whatever you do, don't raise your hand to be the first to buy.  They offer $2,000 off to first couple who wants to buy, which sounds great, but they will take another $4,000 off if you are reluctant to buy.  Our rep actually told us there were "a lot of hoops" to jump through to get the cruise and recommended we take the restaurant voucher instead.  All I know about the cruise is you pay $29 and have a year to schedule.

Did you end up getting your cruise voucher?  How long was the sales pitch?  I may suck it up and sit through it if they actually give you the free trip.  Still sounds a little fishy though, but I have known friends who have done this before and had it work fine.

See 8/28/09 note.  Went to the meeting, 3 couples there.  Got the cruise certificate (7 days/6 nights) departing various ports including Baltimore and $300 gas pass (send in receipts totalling $100, get $25 back until $300 paid).  Initial cost for cruise (shipping/handling) is $29 to be paid in 30 days if you want the cruise (one year to use).  Not much pressure to buy a vacation package through Global Vacation Network, Manufacturer Direct Princing network membership, etc.  Package not bad if it works.  Didn't buy though.

My husband calledthe toll free number back.....This person who didn'tleave his name, claimed he was a representative of Leisure Group, asked if we were going to a location at 7345 Sandlake Rd on 7/18/09 at 11AM. He said there would be port charges and taxes to pay, but the cruise would be free

When I looked at the card,(my husband had it in his possession). I realized this was a scam. As far as I know, and I worked for the cruise lines, there is no 5 night, 4 day cruses going to the Eastern Caribbean from Cape Canaveral. They are all 7 night cruises.

just posted the following on the 1-877-444-8111 site. you should read the posts there first. or just realize this is a scam and simply throw the postcard away right now!

got my card today! times must be tough, they dropped the gas voucher down to $150. no logos of royal caribbean or carnival on this one. the phone number is 1-888-596-0555 now, not 1-877-444-8111. i did a google search on 15 paradise plaza, sarasota and came up with "the ups store #0089" which happens to be in the paradise plaza shopping mall on versailles street. sure enough google maps street view shows the ups store! oh and they have a "first class presort u.s. postage paid tampa fl permit no. 430", if that helps with the mail fraud.
