1-888-691-8471 is a fraud they ARE NOT Wells Fargo we called Wells Fargo immediately after this company asked for Full name a social security number. DO NOT GIVE IT TO THEM. Wells Fargo said THEY ARE NOT AFFILIATED with this number and DO NOT ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS from these people they are trying to steal your identity!

I just got a call 800.723.5533. a man left a message saying he was from Wells Fargo and wanted to verify some recent activity on my credit card. he said to call him back at 888-691-8471. Glad I looked online before calling them back! How do we report the people at this number? Is someone watching out for these kind of calls and trying to do something about stopping them?

Got a call from 888-691-8471 late Saturday afternoon -- it showed up as "unknown" on my cell phone. Guy claimed he was calling from Wells Fargo fraud dept. and wanted information about my credit card purchases. Suspicious. I didn't give any info.

Same thing here... got a call from 800-723-5533 claiming to be Wells Fargo Theft (or Fraud) Prevention asking to call back on 888-691-8471. Weird thing is I used my Wells Fargo card for the first time about 2 days before that, so I almost fell for this. I called the 888 number and thought it was weird they'd ask for my full credit card number, not my name and last 4 digits. Also the music was a tipoff, I couldn't picture WF using that kind of music. So I hung up and decided to look online.

Those numbers are legit. Just call customer service and have them transfer you to Fraud Prevention, ask a rep if those are legit #'s and they will tell you they are.

This number is legit. I called Well Fargo customer service # listed on the website, and they were able to confirm this number is from the fraud department. If you receive a call from this number, most likely there is suspious activity with your accounts.

Received a call from 888-691-8471 regarding suspious activity on my card. Called the number on the back instead in case the number was a scam. It is not, there were four fradulent transaction on my card that Wells flagged because of they were unusual to my regular use.

This is a scam, Wells Fargo does not have a 800-723-5533. Wells Fargo # on the back of the card indicated this is not one of their numbers. The number rings and is answered indicating it is wells fargo; however, they ask for the card # prior to helping and not the account #. Very odd.

Just recieved a call from 888-691-8471 and got the same voice mail as the above comments. They said I had suspicious activity on one of my cards. So I call, and after I was prompted to put in my full credit card number, I hung up. I'm glad this site had something posted!

800-723-5533 *is* a legitimate Wells Fargo Fraud Protection number. It is OK to call that number. I agree that they should not be asking for the full credit card number, but they do.

Agreed that this most definitely IS Wells Fargo, they called twice from the 800 number listed above before I answered. The only thing the lady asked for was my name, and then asked to verify that I had been online trying to purchase concert tickets, which I was, and was having problems. "Declined" my card because, little did I know, Ticketmaster had an incorrect expiration date on file. She informed me all I had to do was change the number and the card should work.
After all the recent things I've seen going on with banks, I'm pretty happy WF actually has something like this in place.
Also, I'm pretty sure they ask for your card number for YOUR convenience, most people don't carry bank statements or even checks around anymore with their account numbers, even fewer have it memorized. You SHOULD always have your card if you're calling them for assistance though, common sense I would think.
Anyways, I doubt anyone would read these comments this far down, or my long freaking comment either to know that these numbers are PERFECTLY legitamate, but hope I've helped at least one person with my story, after all, this isn't my time I'm wasting right now, I'm on the clock! 8-)
Off to get those tickets now...

I called Wells Fargo's main number. They had indeed called me regarding a possible fraud on my credit card, so... seems like this is really their number.
