I have received 2 calls from this so called company telling me they are from legal services. They do not give a company name. They threatened that they were going to file paperwork for me to appear in court and would serve me papers at my home and or place of employment.  I'm pretty tired of these scam calls and when you don't give them your information they get really upset with you. The number they are using now is 8668265565 and 8668265585 when I call the number back it's busy or says your call cannot be completed as dialed. I'm tired of being harassed every couple days.  I don't know how to stop them.

Has been receiving threatening calls from this group of people over the past few months. They call me at least 3 times a week saying they have a case against me in my county (by the way that they pronounced wrong as well as my name). They have no information as to when this "bad check" was written, where it was used, or any sorts of information. They have my social security number, DOB, as well as some old bank account information from years ago. They have given me names from Kristy Clark, Curtis Green, Albert Goldstein etc. This is getting really ridiculous and Im gonna see about forwarding this information over to my attorney generals office in my state. These people are scam artists, they even went through so much as to contact my old age mother for money in regards to this scam. Its fricking disgusting and I hope they catch these losers!!..Oh yeah by the way, Someone just called from their company again!!

I received a call from a Vanessa Johnson from an unknown number stating in voicemail that charges were filed recently to my name and social security number. She stated if I wanted to know the nature of this call to call some 800 number. When I called the number a man with a deep voice answered and I told him to give me their address concerning my bankruptcy. They asked for my case number and I told them no. I again requested the address and the man said they were not a collection agency but a law office but didn't identified what firm. I informed them that this was a verbal formal notification of my intent to file bankruptcy. I informed them that by law they were not to call me again and they will hear from the courts. I never received another call. This happened Friday.

Dont worry, these scumbags cant do anything. The financial system is doing bad, corruption will only be more and more rampant as our economy decays. Its only paper, ask yourself, what really matters? We need to help one another, but that cannot happen in a society with limited funds, that is created out of debt. there is only so much "money", so in order to get yours, it must be taken from someone else, and if you dont then you cant pay your mortgage that the back just issued "credit" for (not actual money, because in the fractional reserve system they can make it out of thin air, from your deposit of money you traded for your labor) Lets change the system, take away the need for corruption. watch Zeitgeist: Moving Forward on youtube, support the Venus Project for a better future for our children.

Got the same call, Gerald Giles from dept legel services extension 1 (cause thats the only extension). Call these F*@kers back, over and over, like im doing. if you got a couple mins, practice your prank calling skills, whatever, just waste their time. have some fun with it.

I received a voice mail this morning from a person by the name of Jerod Jiles (not sure of the spelling) stating that he was calling from the Legal Department of the Liaison's Office stating that he was calling me because of faxed information from DLS, the Department of Legal Services that a case has been filed under my name and they (DLS) had faxed some information with the last 4 of my SSN (which was correct by the way).  He further stated that at this time he was scheduled to come out to my place of residence and gave my address (which was correct also) Friday morning at 11 a.m. (which is tomorrow morning) just to sit down with me to do  a legal review with me to make sure the Department of Legal Services was not filing under false pretense.  He then stated my address again and said that if I had any questions to contact DLS at 1-888-749-8331 ext 1 and said thank you and that he looked forward to seeing me.  I do not know what this is about.  I see the many things here on this site and am just wondering what this could possibly be about.  PLEASE HELP!

i received the same phone call today !  Stating I had an unpaid loan with Advance America from 2004 ! How am I suppose to remember that far back. She even stated that these companies have 10 years to collect !  I was told I would be served papers at my home or work within 24 hours ! I was terrified...... Stupid me called and gave them info for half the payment today and the rest on Friday !  Now after reading all these complaints I"m sick ! I'm going to call bank in am and see if it has gone thru..and try to stop it if it hasnt !   Can someone give me a number to call to report these people ???

If I were you, I would file a complaint to your state's attorney general's office.  You probably won't get your money back but you can help future people from being ripped off by this racket.  I listed this site when I filed my complaint with PA's Attorney General's office.  I see someone contacted Illinois as well. If everyone on here file's a complaint & then updates it on this site as to which state the complaint was filed from, it can open up other avenues for these offices to hopefully, communicate with each other & find out who is behind all of this so they can take them down.

Just got off the phone with the Illinois Attorney General's office.  We have a theft department and fraud department.  This is BOTH.  They use your information from an old check advance or "buy here/pay here" lender, whether satisfied or not, and threaten illegal activities to collect.  DO NOT GIVE THIS COMPANY/CALLER any private information.  Do not engage in conversation -- simply hang up.  This company has advanced equipment to "spoof" your family and friends.  They will call them but their caller id will show up as YOUR telephone number.  Inform your family and friends that you are a victim of an attempted scam and to also ignore or hang up on anyone calling with similar information.  Please keep your financial integrity safe...do not buy into their threats, they are illegal!!!!

Tell them you need proof in writing of the original debt with your signature on it  YOU WON"T GET ANY PROOF OF A DEBT

My husband received a call from an unknown number on our residential line.  The woman on the line introduced herself as "Erica Stokes" and that she was from the Department of Legal Services. (No company name given.)  She informed him that She had a case number against me and they would be sending out papers on Monday. (It's Friday).  No other information was given.  A few months back, I had received a call from my Uncle conveying similar information.  He had been contacted by a "locator" and I was to call immediately to prevent having to go to court.  At that time I did contact them, and they claimed it was a debt from 2008 from a cash advance merchant.  I asked for documentation, which they informed me they could not supply.  (SCAM??)  I took the advice of my financial advisor and ignored it.  We went over my credit report with a fine-tooth-comb, and there was no debt in the amount they listed or even near that amount they listed.  I'm calling my attorney asap.  In Illinois, we have an online service that shows us if there are any legal cases under our name in almost all counties in Illinois.  My name isn't on any docket.  If there was paperwork filed for a court appearance, it would be listed there as soon as the paperwork had been filed with the county.

Based on the information on this site, I filed a report with my state's Attorney general's office. As I stated in my post, I received a call (message) from them stating they were going to come to my work and/or home to deliver some papers to me if I didn't call the legal services dept. This was supposed to happen within 24/48 hrs. Today is 24 hrs...Let's see what happens tomorrow.  The more complaints they get in reference to this the better. In my case, years ago I was the victim of Identity fraud so I did have at one time creditors coming after me for pymt....but that was 8-10 + yrs ago.  I don't have any bills that are currently behind which means that my creditors have no reason to come after me. This is why I was so suspicious when I received this message. The only information that was left on my machine was my name & the last 4 digits of my ss#.  Those 2 pieces of information are easily obtained by some one fishing around in court records on by pulling a credit report on me. Again, I immediately went online & filed a complaint with my states atty gen's office. You can go to www.creditcards.com & type "state statutes of limitations" in the search bar at the top right of the screen. It will take you to a map where you can click on your state to see what the statute of limitations are. Hope this helps!

I too also received a phone call today saying the same exact things about a check from checksmart from 2004 that was never paid. are these people really going to come serve me papers? that was 8 yrs ago!! how am i suppose to remember if it was paid or not. should i be worried?? lol. my "unpaid" balance was $190 but these people are telling me i have to pay $390 (or something like that) asap and if not i'll have to go to court and pay court costs (which she claimed would be $2000-$3000+). should i just blow these people off or do i pay them....HELP!!

I too received a call from a John Taylor who told me that they received paperwork faxed to their office and that someone will be coming out to my place of employment and/or my home to deliver me paperwork. He said that I had to call Legal services at the number that was faxed to them (888-749-8331) as soon as I received this message to avoid them coming to my work or home. He also stated that once they delivered the paperwork to me, Legal services would no longer be able to help me.

Since I know for a fact that all of my bills are paid & paid on time, I know that there isn't a company out there that I deal with that would be coming after me for non payment. I decided to google the phone number & this is the page that popped up. I see that I am not the only person that is received this phone call.  I am going to file a complaint with my state's attorney generals office since I see that there is truly something fishy going on.

On Wednesday 06 Jun 2012 I received a call from the number 888-749-8331 from a woman claiming to be "Julie Morrison" with company "Legal Services" she informed me that her company is tasked with legally providing the notification when a case is about to be filed with the courts for bad check writting or insufficient funds in the cases of outstanding pay day loans. The parent company,  "National Check Affiliates" claims to be calling people before their case is turned over to the courts in a Final effort to collect the debt before legal action is taken. The caller told me that her company tries to help people who charges will file on in 24 hours and that they collect the amount owed and apply to debt therefore closing the case and keeping charges from being filed and thus avoiding costly legal fees.She Advance America in California was going to pursue legal action in 24 hours on a check that I wrote them in 2004 for a pay day loan which bounced, returned by my bank as NSF Bank of America in California. It was true that I did have the account while living in CA and in 2004 unfortunately I did use pay day loans on many occasions from several different lenders and so I panicked, believing what "Julie Morrison" was telling me....of course I should have immediately asked for written proof and stoped to investigate further before paying these people.
PLEASE DON'T DO WHAT I DID! I WAS MANIPULATED BY THESE PEOPLE INTO THINKING I OWED $$ and thusly out of fear from legal and additional financial burden from this 'outstanding loan' I agreed to and paid these criminals the amount they said I owed. I'd rather not say how much, but it was hundreds of dollars!!! Now when I look at my bank statement for this Charges appear as "C & C Services CHEEKTOWAGA NY US". My family and I cannot take our planned vacation next week as a result. I have had to place fraud alerts on all my personal accounts, credit and the amount of time I have already spent to fix this, it's VERY UNNERVING!
If you ever get a call from these people, tell them you need written proof, tell them nothing about your personal life or information!!! and please please please DO NOT BE FOOLED by these people!!!! They are liars and frauds & they do not care about hurting me or my family so take my advice and DO NOT PAY THEM or they will hurt you, too.

The phone# 1-888-749-8331 as of today 6/9/2012 appears to be cancelled because when I called it goes straight to a recorded message: "your call cannot be completed at this time, message ----"
If you get a call like this from either this phone number or from any other # with someone claiming to be with legal services BEWARE!! IT IS A SCAM!! Get all the information from the caller that you can, their name, company, phone number and address along with what they claim you owe and from who and what the amounts are and all that.
Then REPORT them to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), FBI fraud department or police if necessary!!!! They are theives and they NEED TO BE STOPPED!

got a call from this number saying the are calling from a "legal service department" When I called the person back they kept on putting me on hold. When I finally got someone on the phone she kept on asking for a case number or my social. Then I was like what case?? She was like a case you filed but I can't give no information unless you have the case number or give me your social. WHAT? Sounds like a scam then when I ask her about the lady name Stanford who left the message on my phone she was like I don't know who that is and ALL of a sudden she the phone call ended. WOW!! A scam. I'm reporting this number ASAP!!

I just got the same call from 888 749 8331 ws number left but they called from a unknown nmbr on my phone saying they rec'd a fax and i wld be served ppw in 24-48 hours and arrested the man that called sd hs name was john taylor? what is this?

also they dont even know my sis address and told her that they're going to send a summons to her house hahahaha and they lft a vm on her phone on the 18th saying she had 48hrs to pay up  OMG!!!!!!!!  and the  name is Nationat Check Affiliates

Robinson Rd   Amherst NY 14228 that add belongs to the Reinharat family wonder what they wld say if they knew these people were giving out their number   and the only nation check affilates company in buffalo or e. amherst is on 1561 kenmore ave and the phone# for them (748-6525) isnt setup to receive cls (what a crock of ____)  im going to turn their voicemail over to the attorney general because its very threatening   and besides they said this was from 2003 which is way pass due   even claimed to hv video surveillance

So did you ever get a letter in return? I'm seeing alot about the people calling from this number are involved in a scam, claiming legal action against those they call.
