This is a legit number for PNC Bank.  Got an e-mail regarding a transaction I made and asked that I call this number (and it had several other numbers).  Contacted PNC thru their main number and they verified the number as legit and even stayed on the line as the PNC consultant connected me to the person that e-mailed me.  The transaction I made was flagged as suspicious in their system and they needed verification that I actually authorized that payment.  Nice that they were watching my account for me.

These are valid phone numbers to PNC Account Verification and Analysis Dept. If you call regular customer service and give them the full name of the person who called, direct phone line (the 502), they should be able to connect you directly to the dept above or the person initiating the call.
I have verified w/ my banker.

Below is what I got from Sharon Wilson.  I suspected it was a fake.

Received a voice mail from aKentucky number with this 888 number listed to return the call.  She said she was Milly from PNC bank and to call back to verify an online payment.  I called PNC direct as I never return calls to direct banking numbers for fraud protection.  PNC informed me that no one from PNC had tried to contact me and that this was probably a fraudulant call.  Please beware!

Just got a call from this number this afternoon (left a voice message), requesting that I call them back regarding "online bank transaction verification" for PNC BANK.  The voice was obviously foreign.  She left two numbers, this one and a "land line" with a 502 area code.  It sounded funny, but I called back and got the same voice, telling me that the office was now closed and to call back during normal operating hours between 7:30AM and 4:30PM central time.

I called the main number at PNC and explained what had happened.  They referred me to their fraud department who asked questions about my identity (but never an account number); they tried these numbers and concluded that the caller "wasn't one of theirs" due to the fact that she only used her first name--the fraud department at PNC uses both first and last.  The gentleman helping me cautioned that he felt the call was fraudulent.
