I don't live in Pennsylvania and never have, not have I ever had an account with West Penn. I'm in Massachusetts, although my phone number has a West Virginia area code.
I receive two calls a day from this number. I haven't picked up, and they don't leave a message.
Given the comments here, I'll assume it's West Penn Power. But seriously, when will telemarketers and business callers learn to leave messages?!

I got a call from wpp and she told me my rate was going to go from 13. somethinfg to 4. something. but I had to give her some part of my account number . Several times she told me she is required to wait for the information no matter how long it takes.
I told her I could not find a bill my house was too messy. This was after I confirmed my name phone and address and that a 50.00 credit would be coming. She eventually hung up on me . Since I blocked the number from contacting me again.
*60 then 2 then # so the number will be added automatically.
I am not positive the above number is the same one that called me.

Polite caller advising they would send energy savings kit. He asked around 12 questions, basic demographics like type of heating, number rooms, family size.

this isnt a scam.. I work on behalf of all power companies under First Enery including West Penn Met Ed Penelec Penn Power Potomac Edison etc.
These bulbs are distributed on behalf of the power companies because too much energy is being used. The power companies are being fined if they dont conserve energy so in an effort to help you conserve their energy my company calls you and asks if youll use these bulbs at no cost in your home so the power company helps you save money and their own power.

A friend got this call from the utility company. He says it's legit. Sent him a couple of the energy saving light bulbs.

West Penn Power is owned by First Energy

This is a real program. All I did was confirm my address and they could send out the light bulbs with no strings attached. I received them a couple weeks ago, with literature on how to save energy. There was a paper included to reconfirm that there was in fact no additional costs or obligations. As to the unprofessional nature of certain callers, most likely they are temp workers trying to make an extra buck. WestPenn is not extending much effort into who they hire for a temporary program. I don't understand why they are doing this, some kind of incentive, but take advantage of it while you can!

My boyfriend has picked up this number before. And now I am getting it. They say they are West Penn power and are going to send efficiency light bulbs. They already had our address. They never sent the light bulbs, so we figured it was a scam. Although they are annoying, they never asked for any information and they were free, so they never asked for credit card info. Just ignore the call, or have your carrier block the number.

Not West Penn Power. First Energy trying to attract West Penn customers.
| Heather 2011-10-12 17:42:58 Unknown |
I just called West Penn Power and they confirmed that they do have a call center that is calling out to customers to offer the kit - so it is legitimate.

Got this call even though I had already received the free CFL bulb kit by entering information online from a card I had received in the mail.

I just got a call from this number. I have in the past got calls from west Penn power who stated they were calling about these bulbs in an automated message and told me to visit the website if interested. The person who just called me said hello. I responded with hello (a lil annoyed sounding cuz its 8pm) and they immediately hung up. If this was truely west Penn power I feel they would be much more professional

Several power companies have now merged into West Penn so you could be a customer of theirs.

Sorry Lee, I have never been late on my electric bill in over 15 years. I still just got a call.
We get these calls at my place of business also wanting to sell us lightbulbs.

It doesn't matter who is calling you. It doesn't matter if this is shady or a scam. NEVER accept calls from telemarketers, no matter who it is, whether or not what the caller has to sell is a good deal. If the call is coming from someone you don't know and with whom you don't do business, the caller is a telemarketer, whether the purpose of the call is to sell you something, to get your opinion, or even to solicit money for a political cause you support or a worthy charity.
Telemarketing is a loathsome way to do business. The only way to stop it is for all of us simply NEVER to allow it to pay off. Tell the caller, "I don't accept calls from telemarketers" and hang up.

It might be someone associated with the company that might be processing the orders from actual west penn power company (we have them in PA). Guy might be getting bonus on number of orders processed...
I never sent anything in for them, and have been getting a call from them.
Scammers could take your information, then go to the web site and get them sent to you, then do whatever... You would never know until bad things started happening...

Just received a call from this number on my cell phone. I am not a customer of West Penn Power and even if my power company was associated with them, they do not have my cell phone number. The caller told me about the bulbs and since it seemed really shady, I told him I didn't need them and he promptly hung up without another word. I'm certain it's some sort of scam.
| James 2011-09-27 19:40:52 Unknown |
Received a call from someone claiming to represent West Penn Power, asking my permission to send out an energy saving kit. When I stated that they needed to call after my work hours, they replied 'perfect' and hung up.

I don't even have West Penn Power.

If it is a legitimate West PennPower number, who can't you find out this information if you swatch the number? I'll bet it is a clever scam- sure they will offer you free light bulbs, but I bet the people getting these calls are delinquent on their West Penn Power bills.
