Non-profit Organization
I work for Student Outreach Solutions.

1. The school pays us to call its students. For profit schools have a higher rate of default than state schools. When the school's default rate gets so high, they are no longer eligible to receive federal funding. Basically, students who go there cannot get loans to attend. This would cause them to lose a LOT of students. Therefore, they hire us to counsel students on the many loan options available since people are apparently too afraid to face the fact that their loans are delinquent. WAKE UP, there are options available. You don't HAVE to make any kind of payment at all if you can't.

2. I work for Sallie Mae. My paycheck comes from "Sallie Mae" and my specific department is Student Outreach Solutions. There are many departments in my building, including Private Credit, General Revenue Corporation, and Student Assistance Corporation. Sallie Mae is not scamming people. Get a grip.

3. Since we are not debt collectors, nor telemarketers, there is no "do not call" list. We have accounts provided to us by the schools that we call. We are not selling anything, nor are we trying to gain private information for identity theft. What are we going to do with your birth date? Wish you a happy birthday? Send you a gift? Seriously? A birth date is so generic. P.S. We already have your SSN right in front of our faces. We just need to know we're not giving out private information to the wrong individual.

Seriously, if you just handle yourself like an adult and comply with the call, you would find out shortly after you give your mysterious birth date that we are very friendly people only trying to help you.

Just so you know student outreach solutions is a division of Sallie Mae.  They have the contract to collect on defaulted student loans for the University of Phoneix.  If they have your information then they received it from the college.

FIRST OF ALL I GOOGLED THE NUMBER BEFORE I CALLED THEM BACK, AND FELT THAT AFTER CALLING THEM I WOULD LET OTHERS KNOW THAT THE CALL WAS ACTUALLY HELPFUL TO ME (MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE). SECONDLY I USE ALL  CAPS BECAUSE IM LAZY & THIS IS NOT A TERM PAPER OR A PROFESSIONAL EMAIL.

So why are you looking up a number on this site, if you already know who it is and had a successful experience with them?

"Happy customers" have no reason whatsoever to visit this site. Posts like yours are invariably from the scammers, the all caps is typical too.

But you BS tells us a few things -- first that this site is working, second that it is interfering with your attempts to trick victims out of money on the phone, and third that your pants are on fire!

I WAS VERY SATISFIED FROM THE CALL I RECEIVED FROM STUDENT OUTREACH SOLUTIONS. AS A PRIOR STUDENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX I HAD STUDENT LOANS AND BECAUSE LIFE HAPPENS I WAS UNABLE TO CONTINUE SCHOOL AND LOST MY JOB. I HAD TO MAKE DECISIONS ABOUT WHAT WAS IMPORTANT TO MY HOUSEHOLD TO KEEP OUR HEAD ABOVE THE WATER WHILE STRUGGLING FINANCIALLY WITHOUT A JOB, THEREFORE I WAS DODGING SO MANY BILL COLLECTORS I LOST COUNT. FINALLY I WAS SICK OF THEM CALLING I FINALLY ACCEPTED THE CALL. SPOKE TO A VERY NICE YOUNG LADY WHOM INFORMED ME THAT MY LOANS WERE IN A DEFAULT STATUS WHICH MEANT THEY COULD DEFAULT AT ANYTIME. I TOLD HER OHHH WELL I DON'T HAVE A JOB OR MONEY AND SHE GOT ME SET UP ON A UNEMPLOYMENT DEFERMENT THIS POSTPONED MY PAYMENTS FOR 6 MONTHS AND I COULD REAPPLY IF I STILL DIDNT HAVE A JOB IN 6 MONTHS. NEEDLESS TO SAY I WAS VERY SATISFIED WITH THE CALL

If you receive a VM from this company, see the post of 31 Aug 2011. This advice was great! They will immediately ask for your DOB and last four SS#. I said no, YOU will answer questions for me first. I got the company name, mailing address, phone number (coincidentally, the "business line" is not an 888) and the person's name. Tammy refused to give me a last name, I demanded further identifying information indicating how generic her first name was. She gave me her "extension" - which was a 5 digit code, stating it is specific to each "Counselor". I stated out loud the date and time, asking her to confirm, so it will be contained in my recording. She got very pissed, muttering under her breath "You've got to be kidding me." At that point, I stated "I am not kidding and ask again that you remove my name and number from your calling list." Her reply? "Yeah, OK, whatever." She hung up!

I received a letter pretty much stating what your phone call concerned, I also never attend UOP. Hmmm this could be either a Phishing attack or it could indicate that someone has already used our information which is identity theft.

I never recevied a phone call from this number, but I did receive an email that looks like its from University of Phoenix, which says that I am delinquent on one or more of my student loans and to click masked links and call 888-797-9629. It says the name of the company is Student Outreach Solutions. I'm not late on my student loans, nor have I ever been, so I know its fake. I think this company bought a list of former UoP students and is sending these emails and calling to try to get our personal information for who knows what reason. DON'T click links in emails, and DON'T give them any personal information - no birthdate, no last four of your social, NOTHING. If you're concerned about your student loans, call the lender (i.e. ACS/SallieMae/etc) directly.

I have been repeatedly at all hours called by these people claiming they are looking for someone I have never heard of.  They claim to be from the University of Phoenix.  They (Etta?) claim it is a business matter then give the 888 number to call.

Do you know of a way we can report this number?  I too am a victim of these people, and after the argument I just had with the lady on the phone, I want to see them go down.  Reply back if you get this and we can do something to get this ball rolling- I'm looking into it right now.

I tried to return the call to phone number 1-800-797-9629 (they gave me their number as 1800 7979 629 and you can't Goggle it like this, as if they're trying to throw people off) and the lady got very cocky with me, as if she didn't know what I was talking about.  It was the third time they called and tried to obtain personal information from me, and I had their phone number documented.  They claimed to be calling on behalf of UOP and were trying to get in touch with me.  But, when I called the school, they had no clue what I was talking about.  She starting yelling at me, would not cooperate on any level, and told me I was "acting real classy."  The nerve of these people.  They called me, I didn't call them!  Unbelievable.  How can I report these people?

I kept getting calls from these people as well. They are a 3rd party telemarketer, they must be trying to get you to refi your student loan with them they get your information from anyone that sells it to them. It seems as if they get a majority of their leads from University of Phoenix. If you never went there then the person behind the phone that is making 6 dollars an hour goes off script and tells you he got your info from U of P as he forgot or the lead doesnt show him where you info was purchased from and he assumes it came from U of P.   Here is how you get rid of them.

When they called me with the recording for the 6th time I finally had a pen handy to write down the number as they say it so fast.

I then called the number from my home phone that they called me on. DO NOT call from a different number because you will give them another number to call on. Call from the same number they have on file.

When they answer and say "this call may be recorded or monitored for quality assurance and training purposes" make sure you have a voice recorder handy. I used the one on my cell phone. You reply "I would like to let you know Chris that this call is being recorded for quality control, and mayand could be used as evidence in court if deemed quality evidence by the procicuting attorney" Chris please state what company your calling on behalf of, what is their address, phone number, and your associate ID please. DO NOT Verify ANY of your information even your date of birth, last 4 of SS, or Nothing. At this point ask them to remove you from the call list. They will tell you that you need to verify before they can remove you DONT. Ask for a supervisor because your tired of the harrasment and you will report them. Once the supervisor gets on the phone you start over again and state the same thing about how your call is being recorded as stated above, make sure you ask the supervisor the same questions that you asked the first person name of company, address, phone number associate ID# etc.... Make it very clear that you will not verify any information because you do not feel safe because you never gave "Student Outreach  Solutions" your personal information and you want them to remove your number from the list. If they do not comply you will be reporting them for Harrasment. End of Story. If they continue to call document each and every call, time, Associate ID and record the call. Then you report them to the FTC. They will be dealt with a harsh penalty if they rack up enough complaints. Congress is really cracking down FTC to crack down on them and protect the public from these jerks.

This phone number called my father stating they were calling about student loans. I called back and they said they were on behalf of the University of Phoenix and they received notification I was delinquent on a student loan account by three days! I explained I paid the payment the day before and was not behind. The man put me on hold and said Sallie Mae's wait time was 9-13 minutes. I asked them to never contact me again and he started to argue. I told him I didn't do business with GRC and I did business with University of Phoenix and Sallie Mae. He continued to argue with me and said he needs me telling him to stop calling in writing. In the beginning of the call he said the call was recorded and I brought that up telling him that the call is recorded and they clearly have me asking them to remove me from their calling list. He refused so I hung up
