They called looking for my sister, who lives in another state.  They were using her last name from her first marriage.  "Inspector Jones" told me that she had a summons for my sister.  When I asked what state, she refused to answer and said my sister needed to contact her.  Then I asked her how she got MY contact information, and she said since she's a private investigator, she found my information.

my mother received a call from this number looking for me.  they stated that this was the number i gave them for contact.  one, i haven't lived their for 20 years and i do have my own number.  they proceeded to tell her that this was the only contact number i gave to them and i have a court summons next week and i better call 1-888-831-2032.  summons by phone, yeah right.  then, after they told her that her number was the only number they called me on my phone.  left a message on my machine stating that i have a court summons for next week to call this number for further info reguarding this matter.  yeah right!  well, my mom is livid and is freaking out her baby has a summons.  i told her to calm down it is probably a collection agency.  she checked her caller id and it came up whaleback systems.  so, i checked their website and it is a type of phone company in another state.  if this helps.

Debt Collector Accused of ID Theft
Man allegedly used customer’s card to finance $1,900 shopping spree
October 9, 2008

Add this to the many reasons to dread a debt collector’s call: A “rogue” Buffalo debt collector is accused of stealing a customer’s debit card number to finance a spending spree, The Buffalo News reports.

Antonio R. Speed, 37, was arrested on two counts of identity theft. He allegedly ran up almost $1,900 using the debit card number of a Pittsburgh-area woman he persuaded to settle an unpaid Shell gas card bill.

Speed reportedly used victim Mary Reynolds’ banking information to go online and buy bowling balls, bowling shoes and bowling shoe covers. He also bought prepaid credit cards, visited a paid porn site, and paid someone else’s car insurance, Reynolds told The News.

Not the first time!

Speed, who was employed by Graham and Noble Associates, a Buffalo collection agency, called Reynolds and introduced himself as “investigator Dave Murdock.” He said he was calling about a $399 Shell gas card bill from 2000. Reynolds denied responsibility for the bill, explaining that she was an identity theft victim.

Speed, as “Murdock,” then brought up a previous run-in Reynolds had with the law (for picking flowers on private property), and she became angry. Reynolds’s husband took the phone and eventually convinced his wife to agree to a compromise—$168 to settle the matter.

Days later, Reynolds’s bank notified her of uncharacteristic charges to her card. She froze her account and contacted police.

‘Yeah, that’s strange’

Northeast District Detective James Dunham interviewed Speed: “I had a chance to ask him ‘Don’t you think it’s strange that this bank card information would come back to Buffalo and she [Reynolds] doesn’t know anybody in Buffalo?’ He said, ‘Yeah, that’s strange,’” Dunham told The News.

POULSBO, Wash. - It was a call that felt like a sucker punch to the gut of Dominique Springer.

"I was in a panic. I was crying. My kids were asking me what was wrong. It was terrible," she said. "I kept saying to myself in my head 'Don't give him any information, but he was being verbally abusive."

It was a debt collector from a company called Graham Noble and Associates in New York, demanding a $1,500 payment for a 9-year-old credit card bill that Dominique says was opened in her name by her ex-husband years ago.

"He just started saying there's a court order in Kitsap County for you and if you don't pay this debt we'll trace it to you, we'll find you," she said.

Dominique was caught off guard, and she broke down and decided to pay up, but stopped short and put a hold on the payment.

Chuck Harwood, with the Federal Trade Commission, says there are rules for debt collectors that consumers don't always know about, but they should.

"For a lot of debt in Washington State the statute of limitations is six years, which means after six years, it's not possible to file an action in state court to claim it," said Harwood.

"They can't engage in what we call abusive practices. They can't threaten, they can't make misrepresentations in an attempt to collect the debt."

We called the collection agency, Graham Noble and Associates, about Dominque and they said it was all a mistake, a computer error was to blame for the calls. Then they admitted there was no court order, and they won't be bothering Dominique any more.

These jerks called my 76 yr. old mother and terrified here looking for me. The whole Inspector routine , the threat of jail and even gave her a court docket number. She didn't give him any info but took name and number so I could call them back. When I called him he started aggressively telling me I was going to jail,etc. This was for a $200 debt incurred by my ex back in '04.Then this guy tells me to hold on so he can transfer me to the accounting department and he forgot to put me on hold. I hear him telling  someone that he "got another one" and that "he always gets that a**" , he then went on to say "these mother f****** need to learn they can't run from me" as I am listening I am writing it all down and he says "hey dumb a** you gotta hang up to click over you dumb f***" at that point I asked if he was talking to me still. He said "oh f***" and hung up. At that point another person came on the line. She sounded like she was half asleep, she used incorrect grammar and said things like "yeah" and right,right". As I am talking to them my phone tells me I have a text from my debit card company. They had tried to process the payment after we agreed payment would be made on the 3rd of next month. Needless to say I  canceled my card and started doing an investigation of this company. These are a couple articles (above) that I found.
So Inspector Fountain, at ext. 153 next time make sure you really place the person on hold before you proceed to talk crap. You cost your company in the long run. Oh yeah, its illegal in the State of CA. to tell someone that you are a representative of the court and give a fake docket number.

My mom called me on monday, march 23rd, 2009 saying that she had just gotten a message on her home line from an investigator with bexar county (county where my parents live) trying to get ahold of me regarding a case and left a case number and phone number where he could be reached. i of course was baffled as to what it could pertain to, so i called and a girl answered, "Graham Noble and Associates". i explained what my mom had told me, and gave the extension, X177, and was connected with John Edwards. Mr Edwards then proceded to tell me that there was pending legal action against me in bexar county from a credit card company that i used to have, haven't had in over 5 years. he told me that the debt was for $4300. i of course was absolutely speechless at this and in the course of our conversation, he threatened that if i let this matter go unresolved, they would put a judgement against me in which they would send sheriffs to my job and home to serve me with papers and force me to appear, and the judgement after all was said and done would total over 10K. they would then seize my car, my checking/savings account, garnish my wages, and put a lien against/suspend any professional licenses i have. through this all he is talking down to me, belittleing me, pressuring me to make a payment. i asked what kind of settlement he was talking about. he said if i got on a payment plan now, they'd forgive the debt down to $2200, if i didn't make a payment today, they'd seek the full amount, and if i let it go to court, it'd be over $10,000, to which i offered a $50 initial payment and then monthly payments after that, and he actually laughed at me and told me that anything less than at least $525 right now would not be accepted. he pressured me to call family, friends, take out loans, anything to get the money. after a while, i told him i'd call him back, and as soon as i got off the phone with him, i THANK MY LUCKY STARS i had a copy of my credit reports from all 3 credit reporting agencies. all three of them showed that the account was closed around December 2003, and settled in April 2006. after going through some of my old papers, i found a settlement letter that i had received from the credit card company to which my dad paid the settlement, and wrote the amount, date and check number on the paper. i called mr edwards back to let him know about this fact. i asked him to verify the address of the original creditor and he said the address was in universal city, tx. BOGUS, the company is in south dakota, my PARENTS live in universal city. i told him about the credit reporst i was looking at saying the debt was settled and he got all irate and told me that i had to fax all this info to him before he'd believe it. so i faxed him the credit report info with all the pertinent info highlighted (everything else covered up of course!!!) that night and called him the next morning. he said he did have the fax, but they were with administration and he was just waiting to get them and review them, he'd call me back. rest of the day went on, no response. the next morning around 930 i get a call from a blocked caller id number, and it's ANOTHER guy calling about the bill, doesn't identify himself, just that the info i faxed him was not for the account they're trying to collect on, it's from the same company, but apparently i had 2 cards with them. i said how can that be, if one is on my credit report, how come the other card from the same company isn't on there? he said that by law all entries pertaining to the lawsuit have to be removed from my report 366 days before the judgement so that's why its not on there. we argued back and forth for a while, he kept asking how i wanted to resolve this, all the while threatening me with jail, wage garnishment, and everything else mr edwards had threatened me with. i told him that mr edwards wouldn't let me resolve it for anything less than $525, and he immediately asked what i could afford. i told him i had offered $50 and he asked how i wanted to set that up. THANKFULLY i didn't give him any of my info and after more arguing and him telling me i was a deadbeat irresponsible child who should take responsibility for my actions and pay my debts instead of charging up other folks money and then not being mature about it. i told him to go get bent and hung up on him. After a few minutes he called me back and introduced himself as the deadbeat who has a job and pays his bills, trying to get into it with me. i hung up on him again, and immediately hit the internet, first tracking down who owns the fax number, then searching for Graham Noble and Associates and i found report after report after report of intimidation, threatening messages left for family members, people having money taken out of their bank account unauthorized. i am so glad i did find out that i'm not the only person that they try to scam. IF YOU DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE THEY ARE SCAM ARTISTS WHO SEARCH PUBLIC RECORDS AND MAKE UP CASES TO INTIMIDATE PEOPLE INTO PAYING TOWARDS SOMETHING THAT DOESNT EXIST. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION, INCLUDING BANK/CREDIT CARD INFO.

Called my mom today who is a cancer patient on heavy medication. After a few minutes I went to see who my mom was talking to and  heard her answering  questions I thought were odd. "Roger" tried prying info from her about my sister, who does not live here (She lives in SCOTLAND now and has for 5+ years). He asked her about a car my dad had co-signed on for my sister (TOTALED now, who knows where it is) asked if they OWNED  THEIR home, etc. He then advised her that my sister listed herself, my dad and I as references and used our address as her own. He also asked her about my sisters ex boyfriend, (whom we have had no contact with since she got a restraining order against him due to his almost beating her to death- he's the reason she left the country). I was listening to my moms end of the conversation because she was giving out a lot of info about her and my dad. (Her medication makes her disoriented and incapable of handling business matters).

   I heard my mother say "Jackie is her sister, she lives here then I took the phone to see what it was about. "Roger with Gr--------- Investigations" (her slurred and mumbled the name) asked my name then wanted me to give/confirm my social security number (yeah right!) When I asked what it was regarding he got loud and advised me HE was doing the talking and I was going to listen, because my sister had gotten herself in a "situation" and he was trying to settle it before the sheriff got involved. I advised him I was not going to speak to him if he could not tell me what the situation was. That made him angry and he said if I wouldn't talk to him he would send the sheriff out to MAKE me talk to him and answer his questions. He demanded to know if I was at my mothers house so he would know where to send the sheriff. (He got VERY nasty and angry fast. I have NEVER had anyone talk to me like he did, as if I was a piece of garbage!)

   I advised him we have had no contact with my sister in the last 4 or 5 years, and that we did not have her contact info. I also advised him the last we heard she had moved to Eidenburgh. He then said He guessed he would have to let the law handle the "situation" since he couldn't get me to help him.

Thank God I took the phone from my mom. I can only imagine what type of questions he was asking her. She was so upset by the call she was hysterical and shaking. When I tried to find out what all he had asked her, she couldn't remember (Chemo fog affects short and long term memory).

I was pretty shook up, and immediately came online to search for info. At first, due to the fact he mentioned my sister and mentioned her ex-boyfriend by name,  I was afraid "Roger" was someone the ex boyfriend hired to try and track my sister down so he could stalk her again. Finding out it was a debt collector was almost a relief! Although after reading the stuff  Marti posted above earlier this afternoon, I was rather frightened. Unsure as to if this creep had got her or my dads social, I immediately contacted lifelock and advised them to be on the lookout for fraud.

I almost forgot to come back here to post this info! Thanks for the info everyone, especially Marti and Marshall "Alias" :) It was nice to learn I can legally tape harassing calls like this in Texas.

He never did advise what the "Situation" was, but reading this I saw Shell gas card mentioned, and I remember my sister had that card and her ex stole it and maxed it out. Her confronting him about it and threatening to press charges is what caused him to beat her until she lost consciousness and then he dumped her body in a field, thinking she was dead. Thank God for the good Samaritan who witnessed it and gave her aid.

Thanks "Roger" for making my family re-live that horror that happened to my sister all over again in our minds. Sweet dreams to you and yours tonight, you jerk.

I forgot to mention, a different person (same number) called 20-30 minutes after the first call, asking for my sister and the name and number of her attorney because she was in a "situation".  I asked them to hold, went into the den, got an old airhorn from a birthday party and blew it into the phone. The airhorn is staying by the phone from now on.

I keep getting this call once every month. (recorded on my voicemail, in English and Spanish) I called them back and asked what the case was about.

They asked for my name. But I would not give it to them; since they are the ones who called me and should know my name and the rest of the information they called me about.

It was a lady, she said, if you want to be taken off the list you have to give us your name or social security number. I answered back: My mother didn't drop me on my head when I was a baby.

Frustrated she hung up...

They have called two more times after that exchange.

Don't know what to do

I had got a call from these people telling me that I needed to pay on an account. I made an payment arrangment with them and they took three payments by check for the next three months. In Jan. 09 I had a different checking account so I called them to give them a payment from the new account and this Jessica O'Donnell was very nasty over the phone with me and called me out my name and everything so I asked to speak with her boss. He gets on the phone says he is sorry for her actions and he would like to just settle the bill with me. So I post-dated two more checks to them for the remaining amount. In the end I gave them $600. I now have an different company saying that they have bought that account and now I owe them money. I have been trying to call Gram, Noble but all a get is a voicemail box of a Ms. Taylor! I just don't know what to do or who to truste at this point.

i got a voicemail with a woman who spoke so fast... she said quickly about me being summoned to court if i didnt call within 24 hours. so i called the 1-888-831-2032 and a voicemail of some guy named michael - whose an attorney and requested that i leave a message with my case number, phone number and the last 4 digits of my social. so i pressed "0" to get an operator because i was told to call ext. 179, well the operator didnt pick up either. so i left a message with my phone number and my case number but not my social. i thought it was kind of a weird phone call considering that i know that i am not in any big trouble or anything - so i got suspicious.... and i am glad that i did - because i found this forum.  because of this forum - i have warned my entire family and friends by sending out a mass email of this site and of those crooks!  you know, at a time like this - with the economy and all - who can afford identity theft?

I was almost a victim today! Feb. 27, 2009. A man called my parents home yesterday looking for me with my maiden name and gave a case# saying I needed to call ASAP or I will be summons to court. My mother called and gave me the message. I called them this morning and they told me I owe an insane amount of money to a credit card company and they are sueing me and if I settled out of court I would only be liable to pay $500 well I told him I would need to talk with my husband and needed further info from them. Gave them my husbands fax# to send forms and case files. He asked for my current address. Like a dumbass I did before I got home to do some research and came across all of these complaints and knew I was almost had! I confronted them and they called me a slur of names and also kept harrassing my parents home. Please Don't GIVE YOUR INFO OUT unless you are aquainted with the situation. DO YOUR RESEARCH! I thank GOD I did!

Morons. (them not you guys).

They are likely legit - just bottomfeeders as the others have stated... people like Junior - if you don't owe anything you may have the same name as someone else who they are hunting for.

I've had my phone for over a year and a half. Several times a week I get calls for the people who had the # before me. I say IN MY VOICE GREETING - If you are calling for so-and-so THIS IS NOT THEIR NUMBER.

The guy still proceeded to leave a voicemail. ERGH. If he calls again he is going to get a tongue lashing... LOL

My mom got a call from these people from a Mrs. Brown, she left 888-831-2032 ext 152. She asked for me and said it was concerning a civil case in ( my county). Well I called thinking well when they guy answered he was rude as hell. He transfered me to another guy I gave him the case number he put me on hold. But something didn't feel write so I looked up the number and saw this. So I hung up. They called back like 3 mins later. My husband said I know you guys are connected to fraud if you call me again I will sue you. They have not called back.

On a side note we talked to them before a few months ago. They refused to send any paper work. Saying it had been sent before. I got the info on who the debt was with ( supposedly) I called the company who I " owed" money too. The company said I had no debt with them and that who ever this was it was a scam they advised me not to pay them.

If you get a call from these jerks ignore it. Its a scam. They are rude and will not send any paper work. They people were so rude it had me in tears cause I was so upset.

They are one of many bottom feeders operating (legally or not) out of the Buffalo, NY area, using fear and intimidation to collect on alledged debts.

Here's how you stop them:

Send them this letter demanding validation of the debt they are calling about. Send it VIA Certified Mail and request a return receipt. Keep copies of everything you send. If they continue to pursue collection activity after you have written proof they have received it, you will have legal grounds to sue the %$#! out of them.

(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) Provide a verification or copy of any judgment (if applicable);
(4) Proof that you are licensed to collect debts in (insert name of your state)
Be advised that I am fully aware of my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act. For instance, I know that:

because I have disputed this debt in writing within 30 days of receipt of your dunning notice, you must obtain verification of the debt or a copy of the judgment against me and mail these items to me at your expense;
you cannot add interest or fees except those allowed by the original contract or state law.
you do not have to respond to this dispute but if you do, any attempt to collect this debt without validating it, violates the FDCPA;
Also be advised that I am keeping very accurate records of all correspondence from you and your company including recording all phone calls and I will not hesitate to report violations of the law to my State Attorney General, the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau.

I have disputed this debt; therefore, until validated you know your information concerning this debt is inaccurate. Thus, if you have already reported this debt to any credit-reporting agency (CRA) or Credit Bureau (CB) then, you must immediately inform them of my dispute with this debt. Reporting information that you know to be inaccurate or failing to report information correctly violates the Fair Credit Reporting Act § 1681s-2. Should you pursue a judgment without validating this debt, I will inform the judge and request the case be dismissed based on your failure to comply with the FDCPA.

Finally, if you do not own this debt, I demand that you immediately send a copy of this dispute letter to the original creditor so they are also aware of my dispute with this debt.

My brother got a call from Nancy Rzepa from Graham Nobel and Associates with a case number looking for my under my FMN. Hell - if they're looking for me for anything civil under that name - all statutes are WELL expired, so... sux to be them.  Anyway, they gave the phone #888-831-2032 extension 177.  He's a comp security guy, so he researched it before he even told me.

His advise: DO NOT call them back - they will then have your phone number.

A Nancy Rzepa from Graham, Noble & Associates called with just about the same footprint as above (Ms Rzepa went so far as to emphasize the spelling of Graham.)  888-831-2032, extension 177.  Refused to give any info regarding litigants.  said they used a service to find "like names" in area, assuming I know the person they are seeking.  Sounds really phishy to me.  Especially since they could not "divulge" any information.    Word of caution to you folks out there - "tell em to take you to court".  Then you know it's real and not a scam.  I should have had them call back after they unlocked their Caller-ID.  She stated they were with a Law Firm.

Hey "God Bless The Internet"  - Good write up!

Thank you for this info, I actually lost sleep over this call saying I was a respondent in a fraud case to be filed in my county and if I did not call them, further litigation could occur. My son checked this out for me and advised not to call them. Any real "court case" info would come in writing. What a bunch of jerks they must be. They should leave people alone already. They must be trying to get unwary people to make some agreement on old debts that have expired, that starts the debt all over again, debts have a statute of limitations.

I received a voice mail from an Inspector Carol. The caller did not leave any company information. The message indicated that if Randy Christianson did not call back message regarding Case Number 86212 and talk to Inspector Carol at Extension 181 a summons would be issued in his county.

I though the call was possibly from a police agency since the caller identified herself as "Inspector" in the voice mail. I called back with the intent of assisting a legitimate police agency.

I was very upset to learn that the caller was Graham, Noble & Associates.
http://buffalo.citysearch.com/profile/4446530 ... associates.html.

The person that answered the phone at Graham, Noble $ Associates refused to answer my questions regarding the type of company they were. He also insulted me and called me stupid for not providing them with any information regarding the call I received. He pressed for information, to clarify their case records, but I hung up.

Companies like Graham, Noble & Associates should be sued for Fraud, or, at a minimum, violating the Do Not Call list that I am registered on. The only stupid people are those companies that hire companies like Graham, Noble & Associates to collect any outstanding debts.

I have lived at this address for 2 years. The number of calls I get from collection agencies for "other parties" is ridiculous. A legitimate agency should have accurate records, and be able to identify the correct address and phone number for the party they are attempting to collect any outstanding funds from. Instead, they harass other individuals who are not even related to the case, and expect other people to do their work.

Please forward this complaint to the appropriate authorities for action!

Received a call from a Mr. Curry who stated he was an investigator with Grand, Noble & Assoc. calling in regards to a "Court Order" he was trying to have the local "County Sheriff's Office" serve papers to me for a "Summons to Appear in Court". He then stated that I or the attorney representing me in this case needed to call him at 888-831-2032 with
case # *****. He then went on to state that "Failure to Respond  to this Notification will result in Summons being issued to both your Place of Business as well as your Residence.
Once I recovered from the initial shock  this message caused I immediately went to the computer and did a search for the company Grand, Noble and Associates and let me tell you there is NOTHING Grand or Noble about them!!!  They are nothing more than an Outlaw Debt Collections Service who buys up old debt lists(most debts are to old to be legally collected on) and then attempts to extort money from the people unfortunate enough to be on said list. I found several great posts on this site with information on how to legally protect myself from further communications from this company as well as take them to court and sue their butts off.  For those links look up the number 877-836-3131 on this site, go to page 3 with the post date of 24 Jan 2008. I fully intend to follow the instructions given there and stop these types of communications from happening to anyone!

Insisted that I return the call in 24 hrs. or legal action would be taken. Said they would have a court summons delivered to my home or work place asap1 Seemed illegit & I have no idea what this is in reagrds to! I wouldn't recommend returning this type of call, most likely identity theft!

Left a mumbled message last night.  Did make out an ex-brother in-law name and the case number was clear.  Asked to have ex-brother in-law or his attorney call.

I returned the call this morning.  I stated I had nothing to do with this person, but was curious about the matter so I asked.  All I was told was it was a civil matter.  I was asked for my phone number in order to be taken off the list.  I asked in what jurisdiction was the civil matter in and was told I couldn't be told any information.  I said, "you DID give me the case number..." the person interupted and said again I can't give you any information, we have the wrong number and hung up on me.
