An Update:
I just called PSEG collections Dept (800-656-5961)to report the constant calls that I am receiving from them.  After a wait time of 15 minutes, I gave the rep my phone number and indeed, they had another person "linked/associated" to my phone number. The gentleman said that he would remove that link and that I should no longer receive any more annoying phone calls.  We'll see.

It is PSEG Collections department. It is a recorded line asking for a particular person.  If you are not that person, then you have to press one number.  If you are that person, you have to press another number and the recording goes on to say that you are late with your payment.  Even though I repeatedly pressed the appropriate number (they are calling the wrong person), it doesn't matter.  They keep calling me.  I tried to call PSEG directly, but I can only reach an automated line.  So I finally blocked the phone number with my carrier and the phone does not even ring.

On my ID only the letters PSE come up, and they have not left messages...called me 3 times in one morning, after ive never recieved a call from this number...3 times already and its 12:42 pm, why would they call so much. Pretty sure its a scam

It is PSE&G.  I'm late on my account, although I already sent a payment, and they are calling to remind me.

I received it too. If your read the called ID carefully, it is not PSEG. It is PSC&G.

Receive calls from this number periodically.  If I do not reconize the name on my caller ID, I do not answer the phone.  Didnt even know who they even claimed to be.  Messages left were in spanish......I do not speak spanish.

I just got a call from this number and no voicemail was left.  When I called it back, it was indeed, PSE&G.

they call all the time and we do not owe Public Service anything!  this is definitely a scam...

This number called and said they are DOW Stock quotes and news.  Another time they said they are PSE&G. Now they say they are ER Solutions Inc.  and asking for private information. I told them to go to HELL and don t call again.

I received several calls from this number.  I have caller id and if there is no name or it says "out of area" I do not answer the phone at all.  If it is important they will call and leave a message with a number and a name and when they can be reach.   I want this types of call to stop.

Play it safe hang-up or ask them to sumbit a bill (Tell them that you do not have a  credit card or bank account.  To send the bill to the address on file.  Do not give names addresses or zipcode(nothing).  They should have it if not they are scammer.

This is not PSE&G, but a company named PSC&G.... notice the "C" instead of the "E".  This is a phishing scam and their practice borders on fraudulent as they are pretending to be a utility company.

I have received the same call a few times now, and they ask for a Michael somebody--cannot understand the last name!  At first I thought it was just a wrong number, because I'm not Michael ?, and I don't know anyone with that name.  But, then I found this web site and it sounds like it is fraud. I guess I will just ignore it, even though it is a pain!

This number IS from PSE&G --- it's not a scam ---  I have received calls from this number in the past and they are quite legit.  However, since it does come over with just the 888 number, I've never directly answered one. and I have called PSE&G directly and asked them to verify, and this is a valid call ---  This is their automated calling system --- quite legal.

Also, it asks for verifying information to make sure it's not about to give the wrong person the information.   They also know who you are because your number comes thru (even if blocked because it's an 800#) and that further identifies you.

Terrible way to make calls --- absolutely --- but not a scam.  

Also, reputable companies DO make this kind of calling and they dont leave any more information than is required to get you to call because it's against the law for them to!  When this number calls and my VM picks up, they DO identify themselves and who they are calling, and that's all that's required by law.

In reality this IS a collection call also.  They only call you with this if in their system you owe money.  This also means they can make the call as early as 8am, and as late at 9pm(if memory serves me on that one).  

This isn't to say they dont get it wrong and call people they shouldn't for reasons they shouldn't, but I do know that if your bill is paid it does actually take up to 3 days to get out of the automated system.  

Finally -- do not think in any way I am defending the company, just that I read all the things people write here, and wonder what they're talking about because there's so much incorrect information...

called several times, and requests verification of identity and zip code.  this is a tip off that you are giving out info that should already have it calling you... !
do not give any details, just hang up.   reputable companies dont do this kind of calling.   just think to yourself...

amazing things you find on the net. i was just awakened from my most needed hangover rest to this phone number. thing is only 5 people have this new cell number so far and all of them have to do with work so if it rings its urgent. 8am on my 1 day off ring ring, i go gunning across the apt thinking maybe im late and its tommorrow i have off. to wake up like that to a 1888 number got me pissed so i typed the # into google and got here. google rocks. yes my pseg bill was late but paid already, how do they have a number not even registered to my name? as a scam its too coincidental but could be. either way i never take any number on my cell that doesnt come up with a name and pic as a serious call, if i dont know the # i dont know the caller. if the caller knows me they know to leave a message. what should be done about these calls

They just called my cell, claiming to be PSE&G(I have no land-line). They asked if I was "J.G."

J.G. is my girlfriend whom I live with. I hit to claim I was her. Then they asked for the last for of my social.  As I was entering in 1234 to see where it would take me next, my cell phone died.  I'll soon be switching my number to a different carrier. We'll see what happens.

Weird they asked for my live in girlfriend though. So obviously a scam. It almost got me, because we indeed forgot to pay last months bill! Yikes!

They just called and left me a message from supposedly PSEG for a TOM EVANS well im not tom evans.

They keep calling with automated systems. Leave no messages so I know nothing about what they are about or asking for. The number is 1-888-838-4439. If they don't even have the common courtesy to have a human being leave a message on my answering machine I sure as hell aint calling them back or giving them any personal information. Having computers constantly call your home whether a debt is valid or not should be ILLEGAL. If anyone left me a message I would have followed up but... No message so I know what is up, no callback. I do not consider automated calling systems legitimate under any circumstances. To the f****ards who run that number... Have a person leave a message and I'd be more likely to get back to you.

This is a collection agency, possibly ER Solutions. DO NOT answer any calls from this number. DO NOT call them back and enter the code. They are breaking the law by representing themselves as PSE&G and by calling a cell phone and by calling after hours.

You may start to receive calls from a "Restricted" phone number at all hours of the day and night. That is these same guys, but they are using a "predictive dialer" that is meant to harass you. There will never be anyone on the other end of the line if you answer. All you have to do to get this to stop is download the "SIT" (doo, doo, doo) ring tone from a web site. It fakes the predictive dialer into thinking your phone number has been disconnected.

REPORT ALL CALLS FROM 888-838-4439 TO A LAWYER. This collection agency is breaking the law in several ways. If a class action suit is filed, you may be eligible to receive money from them. Not kidding.
