My parents received a call on a phone number that even I don't know because I don't call the house number and have no reason to know it. I received an e-mail from my mother saying someone called and spoke to my dad about a debt I have, provided him a case number and stated if I did not call them back then they would have no choice but to file a judgement against me to which the outcome would not be pleasant for me. I called the number he gave me with my caller id blocked and all I got was a lady which answered "ARG how can I help you", no name no actual full company name. Oddly enough about 3 days prior to this call I had a credit alert show up stating I authorized someone to review my credit report (which I have not) and now these people call? None of my other creditors have shown up as an inquiry but now this shows up and all of a sudden I owe a debt that is worth a law suit when I think my largest debt is less than $400 and most everything else is past the statue of limitations. I contacted a company that states they are Asset Recovery Group but upon contacting them they stated I had the wrong company as they did not have any information regarding the case number I provided and I cannot find any other information listed for another asset group that even is a bit legit.

These people are attempting to collect debts that have either been satisfied or are time-barred which means the statute of limitations have passed with regard to filing a lawsuit in order to obtain payment on the debt they paid pennies on the dollar. You should demand written verification of the debt and request written evidence of debt as well as the transfer of contract along with all evidence of writings pertaining to the alleged debt. They REFUSE to identify the name of the law firm allegedly handling your filed complaint. Legitimate law firms identify themselves.

I believe in most cases, the breach is when you first failed to make the monthly payment.

They call claiming they have a complaint filed and then they go the extortion route be threatening you if you do not pay the debt they claim you owe. They also claim you must contact "the law firm handling your complaint" within 48 hours or they will obtain a judgment. This statement is a clue they are scammers. The first words out of their mouths are they have FILED A COMPLAINT. So which is it...is the complaint filed or are they lying? Either way, there is that "Unclean Hands Laches" which means if they lie about one thing they probably are lying about everything else.

Do yourself a favor, file a complaint immediately with the FTC, contact the local police department and file a harassment complaint against them, then contact your District Attorney's office, as well as the California Attorney General's office and file a complaint with them.

My dad recieved a call looking for me saying i had a claim against me. And shortly after i recieved a call from a block number a lady name vanessa padilla left a message said it's urgent that i contact them there has been a law suit against and i must take actions immediately. She said i had a dedt for$2700 and if i make a payment plan fo$200 dollars a month for five months and a last payment for $100.00 dollars the dedt will be satisfied. Then she said that if i can make a payment  of $589.00  that day and the next month of a $100.00  with my debit card the dedt will be satisfied. So i asked her to email or send me a legal docment in writing with the debt i owe and the creditor i owe along with the settltement amount. She said she cannot do that until i set up payment arrangement  that sound  funny to me she also said  that i would be serve papers by the court and have a judgement against me. She was very nasty and was not professional at all and did'nt even tell me that  this is an attemt to collect a dedt something that all dedt agencies tell you before they even talk to you. So that made me suspicious. I check my credit report they not even on there did some research and found this site.  I guess i have to wait to get some legitimate paper work in the mail  before i pay   anything.  the phone number she left  was 1888 844-0316 on my voice mail.

received a call from private number, female left message for a guy i have never heard of , stating a  claim has been filed against them and to call 888-844-0136 immediately or they will have to make a decision on there own. I did not call them back and never heard of the guy they are calling for....definitely a   scam....

They called me too saying they have a conflict?  Lol. I laugh so hard so they called again and I picked up and he has an old address 10 years ago lol.

I just googled each of the names given here and they all belong to "famous" people in some context. Coincidence? I don't think so.

one thing I just noticed, unlike other phone numbers on this website, all these posts are from this year, recently. Isn't that strange that they just started calling people? hummm?

So, after reading all these posts, has anyone had bank accts levied or wage garnished? Has anyone went to court or jail? They don't have the money to pursue court actions for a few hundred dollars. It would cost them several hundred just to file with court costs, process server fees, etc. They would have to have a licensed server for that state serve someone, I know this from a custody case, or pay the sheriff to do it. Even though it's embarrassing to be scammed, how many people have actually paid these people and have had their debt erased? This pisses me off so much that they bully people who are just having a hard time. These banks have recv'd so much of our taxpayer money that I just can't understand why they go so far. These agency need to be regulated better, to make sure we as people are treated with dignity. I told my son not to give them one more piece of info without a letter of validation we can confirm with FTC. If you already have debt on a credit card that you can't pay why would they think you can pay them by credit card? I have been a victim of stolen credit card number so why would I give my number to anyone on the phone? I'm not stupid or going to be a victim again if I can help it. I don't know where they got my number from but giving it out to someone is asking for trouble.

I can't believe they came to your parents house, that take balls. They would have to personally serve you anyway otherwise they can't take you to court. I can't believe what they do for a few hundred dollars. They are harrassing my son so I called them to get a "validation letter" like it said in the other post and all I got was a company name and smart a** person who, after threatening him back with legal action, hung up on me. He said even if my son sent him a letter saying do not call he still would. I said you can't tell people they are going to jail and he said no he couldn't, yet they told my daughter when they called her phone that they had a misdemeanor warrant for him and gave a case number that sounded like the courts. Yes, my son owes a few hundred dollars to wells fargo in returned check fees but doesn't have any bad checks that would consitute fraud like they are saying. They buy these accts for pennies on the dollar so anything above that is profit. They are bullies and scare people with jail time. I forbid him to give them anymore info before getting letter and confirming with FTC. Times are hard and people don't need to be scared, they are scared enough just how they are going to pay rent and feed their kids. PS. I love this info on this website.

Got a call on my cell for my ex husband on my cell phone, we have been divorced and apart for almost two years, Brandon Scott was the guys name left a message on my phone about a complaint against my ex and it was urgent only left a number to call and a case number the number was blocked when he called my phone so I never answered it...glad I did not send the message on to my ex and look a total fool...I just deleted it after looking it up on here...thanks for the help!  He never even named the company he was with.

Just received a "scripted" message from a person with a foreign accent on my work voice mail saying that I have a complaint against me and that I better call 888-844-0136 and gave a reference number - right away and that I would face legal action.

I am not going to call based on the posts above.  This is scary.

These people called my sister's house on a Saturday and left a very scary message. I COMPLETELY stressed out all weekend, but when I called this morning, I asked what it was in reference to, and the man said he wasn't at liberty to tell me until the correct person arrived at the office, then said that they had tried to contact me by mail and then stated an address that I've never even heard of.  At that point he said that perhaps they have the wrong person but that someone would call me back.

Has anyone even gotten to the point in a conversation with them to find out WHO they are collecting FOR? Because I can't imagine what the heck it could be.

My wife and I have gotten hosed out of $600 !!! We should have researched here first.

Got a call from a man identifying himself as Kevin Scott from an unknown number, which I did not answer. He left a message and said there was a complaint that came across his desk and I needed to call the firm handling my "case" at 888-844-0136 with a "page" number. He said it was a "time sensitive" issue and I needed to call ASAP. Then my daughter received the very same call. These are scare tactics, plain and simple. He never identified the company he worked for, the office I was supposed to call, or any other information. It's harassment. Don't talk to them and don't give them any personal information.

Same thing just happened to my mom! It stressed her out and made her worry sick. She thought my brother was going to be charged with something legally...

My daughter received a call from these people a few days ago. They told her there was a complaint against me and if I didn't return their call, papers would be served. I called them and they told me I had apparently already been served papers and they were were going to put a lien on my bank account, house and cars.  I asked them to send me a written validation letter and I would mail them a check. Guess what? They don't accept checks. The guy just wanted my credit card info. I told him I would call him back. Today he called my daughter again (and I have a phone btw) wanting to know if someone was going to be home so papers could be served. She told them they had the wrong number. The guys name is Micheal Wells and I asked for the attorney name that is handling the case. It took him a few minutes to come up with one but the name he gave me is Richard Soul.

I just received a call from this guy named Matthew Harris threatening that I have a suit filed against me as well.

Guy called my job! I called the guy back even though he has my name wrong. First thing he wanted was my Bday which I refused to give until I found out the name of the company. Guy hung up on me!!  SCAM!!

I'm getting the same calls as others on his forum. The caller IDs himself as a Mr. Hopewell (sure, right. Ficticious name?) The very strange (and scariest) part is - my dad called me last night & said there was a message on his home phone from the same caller threatening me. My dad lives across the country! Another weird thing is I don't even know my dad's home phone # as we communicate only via cell phone. Very very disturbing. I've been saving the nasty messages & once I have enough evidence of harassment, I am going to file charges.

My mother in law received a call saying my husband has had a complaint filed against him and needs to call immediatly and left a case number and the name Kevin Harper as the contact person but would not leave a name of their supposed firm we googled the name and # found nothing on the name other than info on an athlete and the number we found several complaints staing nearly the same thing from the number I am very UNHAPPY that my mother-in-law and husband have been harrassed by these scam artist my mother-in-law is very sick and does not need the stress from this crap the call back # they gave was 1-888-844-0136

This is a very shady business. They called a relatives cell phone and insinuated that they were calling about a pending criminal case. When I asked the person on the phone if they had any connection to the "D.A."  that she kept referencing pending charges from, she eluded the question and said that she could "re instate the original amount of the debt and accept payment to prevent the courts imposing a check writing course and more fines" I asked her pointedly if that meant her company was able to sway the "DA office" and I then warned her that the call was being recorded. At that point she said that it was illegal for me to record the call and quickly wished me a good day and hung up the phone.
In their opinion its ok to call my family members and insinuate that I'm in trouble with the law, but its illegal for me to record a debt collection phone call. Even though I informed her of the the fact that it was being recorded before she could start telling lies.  
This is just a debt collection company that will do anything to make a nickel. Including calling peoples elderly parents and making them think that their in trouble with the law. If I'm ever in Columbus GA again, Ill stop by and tell them what scumbags they are face to face.  Here is their address.
