Please remove my URL from this post.  I have nothing to do with Debt collection. Asset Remarketing Group is a legitimate company located in Bridgeport CT.  I am an asset liquidator working for banks and insurance companies.

I track website traffic and noticed some traffic coming from this link.  The reason you are confused about Pacific time zone hours and me being located on the east coast is because I'm not the right company.  Did you ever think of calling the number on my website and talking to someone before posting this on the internet?  You need to be careful what you post about people.  AGAIN REMOVE MY URL IMMEDIATELY.

Debt Collector
I got a blocked call today from young lady named Leah Thomas.  I was left a call back number of 855-849-2226.  When I asked for Leah, I was transferred to the "Legal Department."  My first question I asked was for him to tell me who was trying to collect from me.  He avoided answering this question but instead wanted to know if I had already been "served" my lawsuit.  If so, he was not allowed to speak to me.   I told him that I had already disputed the debt he was trying to question me about.  I further asked him for a mailing address to which he gave me only the street number and name, city, state and zip code.

I called the number back about an hour later.  I asked the first individual who answered the telephone for the company's mailing address.  He asked me why I wanted their address.  I told him I wanted to mail something to them.  He than asked me what I was mailing.  I asked him if it mattered and he said yes.  He then put me on hold.  I was again transferred to the "legal department."  they asked me who I was and if I had a case number.  I told him no and that I was a paralegal that needed to mail something to them.  I go t the information I wanted.

I received a call today at approximately 5:30 pm EST from this number (4/10/13).  A message was left for me by Ashely at this company stating a claim was filed against me and provided a case #.  There was of course a serious lack of information .. no company information for the "debt" collector, no reference on who's behalf the claim was filed by.

I received a call from both my ex husband and my mother within an hour of this call, I had yet to listen to the message as I was at my son's baseball practice.  I knew I had no debts that were past due so prior to calling I googled the phone number & stumbled upon this blog.  Great appreciation to those of you keeping the public informed.

With the information I found on this site, I called this company back within two hours from the time the message was left, upon answering the gentleman just said who may I direct your call to?  No blah blah company name & then who many I direct the called to.  I asked for Ashley & once I was transferred to her was told I needed to hold as my case had already been sent to be filed...???  1st call & returned within 2 hours and my case was already sent to be filed ...??  When she came back & I inquired who the debt was for & what account #. She actually provided a credit card company & account # I had years ago.  I can not be certain it was the actual account # I had as it has been 4 years since I had this credit card.  She stated it was from lack of payment since 2009.  She said the original amount was for approximately $1800 but with interest & court costs it now carried a balance of $6600++.  She also provided me with my Date Of Birth, Social Security # & my current address.  Very scary that they have this information.

I informed her this was absolutely incorrect information & this balance was paid in full & the card was cancelled years ago.  I also informed her that I had the statements indicating this & I would be happy to send them to her.  I asked for an email address, the email address she provided was gxs@assetrg.com.  As soon as I hung up the phone with her I send a confirmation email to her stating I would send her the statements verifying this account was not delinquent first thing tomorrow morning.  The email was rejected as it is not a legitimate email address.

I then googled the domain name assetrg.com - the company information provided from the domain name she gave me is for a company in CT assetrg.com/  I looked at the street view & it seems to be for some kind of wholesale goods that's open to the public.  Whether this is actually a legitimate company or not, I do not know.  I then called "Ashely" back & an answering picked up after many rings, I say answering machine - not a company voice mail system, I think we all know the difference in sound, anyway the message stated that they were open from 7am - 5pm Pacific Time.  No company name again either .. strange for a legitimate collection agency.  Also strange that their hours are based on Pacific Time for a company who's domain says they are in CT (EST).

They are most definitely a scam company I would venture to guess they hack old billing records somehow to obtain our personal information this way .. I am very worried that they know my SS#, DOB, address, etc .. everyone keep a close watch on your credit!!

Lasting side note .. if these despicable people worked half as hard at real jobs they wouldn't have to steal innocent peoples hard earned money!!

Good Luck All, hope this helps anyone else who receives calls from them!

"they' can't have you arrested. Just block their number. If they keep calling, play along, don't confirm a thing, get a much info as you can about them, tell them to send it in writing to whatever address they have on file and when you have as much info as you can get, report them to your state attorney general and the BBB.

But stop verifying personal info over the phone to complete strangers. THIS is why these scams work.

Hello,

For one, this debt collection agency operates secretly, being careful not to divulge it's companies name, number or address. With research, I was able to obtain it. From what I gather, they operate illegally and are using tactics that are against the law. I urge you to contact the Better Business Bureau to file a complaint. www.bbb.org. Than contact the FTC. Their information can be obtained by clicking onto the following web site. http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection\

Here is this companies name and information:

These people are calling my daughter who has not even graduated from high school, much less made any significant purchase in her life yet! They are a complete scam or they are worthless in looking up information.  A male answered my call by the name of Greg and refused to give me any information about his agency unless I had a case number.

You should report these criminals to your state Attorney General and to the FTC.  If they continue to bug you, I suggest you educate yourself about the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act so you can catch them in some violations.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

(888) 844-0139 I kept getting calls from this number, I answered and they said I owed some money to a bank I had taken a loan from. They had my social security number and wanted me to pay back the loan by 4PM, I started asking questions. I asked if they had a website, they didn't. The guy, "Alex" I was speaking to couldn't even give me his last name, he tried scaring me saying the lawyers from the bank were there and ready to  sue me. He told me I had to pay $571 or if I went to court it would be $2,000+. The funny part was that i've never took out a loan. The name of the bank they gave me was "Y bank," they said their company was ARG, I asked what that stood for and they said it was "Acts of recovery." I looked up their number and everything that came up just said it was a SCAM! I called them back and told them I knew they were a scam and i'd be more than happy to go to court. The guy, Alex was so mad he didn't even give me a court date or case number, he hung up.

I got a call from this same number (888) 844-0139. They said I owed a loan from years back and I never paid it back, they threatened to take me to court and say I could get arrested, they told me the lawyers from the bank I had tooken the loan from where there and they were going to sue me. They told me their offices closed at 4pm and I had until then to pay the money, I had talked to a so called "Alex" who couldn't even give me his last name, I asked if their company had a website and of course they didn't. I kept asking him questions and he then told me I had until 2pm to pay the $571 or I would go to court and pay $2,000+ my daughter is a lawyer and my son is a cop. I called them both and talked to them about it, I gave them the phone number and they both did some research. They called me back and told me the number was a scam! Report that number when you get the chance and don't give them any more info.

One can do no better than to repeat Lone Stranger's mantra:

? Never admit to a debt or offer to make payments in a telephone conversation.

? Instruct callers that you will only respond to written communications by U.S. mail, and that they are not allowed to contact you by telephone.

? Demand validation (proof of the debt ? given in writing).

To which I would add "Beware the shill pretending to be two people holding a conversation"

It seems the masturbatory monologue between "Terry" and "just a friend" involves only one poster, talking to himself.  Such shill postings are common, and intended to lend an air of legitimacy to an activity which is most likely to be anything but legitimate, and to intimidate those who come here looking for answers.

It is interesting that no one had posted in this thread prior to these shill postings by Terry/friend.  Some have suggested that such pre-emptive shill postings may be an attempt to sanctify a new number for an old scam, or lay the groundwork for a new scam.

Either way, is seems a likely possibility that some of you will be receiving phone calls from this number which involve someone trying to separate you from your hard earned money.  It seems equally likely that those calling have a concern that people will perceive them to be illegitimate, and come here looking for answers.

Understand that is you, not the caller, who is in control.

Never admit to a debt or offer to make payments in a telephone conversation.

Instruct callers that you will only respond to written communications by U.S. mail, and that they are not allowed to contact you by telephone.

Demand validation.

Educate yourself about the laws which protect you:

http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fdcpajump.shtm

http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fcrajump.shtm

http://transition.fcc.gov/cgb/policy/TCPA-Rules.pdf

Remember the golden rule:  He who has the gold makes the rules.

You have the gold, they want the gold, you make the rules.

No one needs to be a victim.  Especially if the caller is a lying, bottom feeding creep, trying to scare you into handing over money that they likely have no right to receive.

Hope you find this helpful.

I appreciate the advice but unfortunately I have not paid the judgement off. I would prefer to see if I can speak with the judge and make other arrangements. Is there a way to get my weekly payments lowered? Should I see if there are any attorneys that can help? I dont have money for an attorney though. Does anyone know of any attorneys that would work on my case on a contingency basis?

Thank you,

I had mine removed this way:

The US government allows for a one time amnesty for this. Call the reporting agency and get your account number. Write a letter to the credit reporting agency be sure to include in the letter:

Your account number, social security number, address

The reason for the letter

Request amnesty and removal of the judgment

State the debt is paid and provide a letter from the company that got the judgment against you stating that the debt is paid. You can go to the court house where the judgment occurred and ask them to remove it also. This really helps!!

Include how many pages are involved

This is what worked for me.

Good Luck

I received a civil judgement from this firm not realizing that my paychecks were going to be garnished. I don't even know how I am going to keep my head above water. I only make $360 a week and I have to give these people $90 a week on a $3,962.56 judgement. I am the only one working in my household so this effects my family in a major way. i now have to make payment arrangements with my utility companies just so I can keep electricity and gas and water on. Does anyone have any advice on getting this judgement lifted? Is there any other way to make arrangements with the court? I'm lost...

Please help,

Patrick T.
