They called My wife's work today, acting like I was in the hospital to get information!   1st Why call my wife's business!  2nd Misleading her to believe I was hurt or in danger?   Unacceptable I wish I could afford to sue these b*****ds

These people  called my parents asking about my ex wife. Haven't been married to her in 20 years.

hello i had some issues with these people and i was wondering if you could help me take action as well we have strength in numbers and i hate things like this

Just got a call on my cell from 888-853-9066 saying they were trying to contact a relative. The caller didn't know what the relationship was (son), blew his way through any of my questions and kept asking if I was in touch with him and was he working. In his case they wouldn't have any success asking for HR - my son works from a spare bedroom - but they knew his first name. We didn't part on amicable terms so I don't expect my name will be added to a Christmas list.
It seems there's another 853 scam. I googled the code and read that it's in Macau and that the scammers call your number, let it ring once and hang up. If your curiosity wins the battle with caution you could be out thousands of dollars for calling back.

Why is this number calling about a relative

NRI called my HR dept trying to confirm my employment and SSN. Luckily my HR dept told them to take a hike. I got the number and called them back. I asked why they wanted to confirm I worked here etc. They gave me the false ending of my SSN and incorrect birthday then decided I was the wrong person. Super sketchy. I hope no one ever gives me people any information.

this number called me saying that I was listed as a credit reference for (of all people) the woman who married my ex husband whom I have never met or ever had any association with asking if I was still in touch with her--very obviously a scam--I laughed about it until I called my daughter and she told me it might be a scam--- sure enough--I gave no information but I had none to give anyway

I received a phone call from this number, listed UNKNOWN on caller id.  The man asked for me by first and name (I had answered).  My last name is not in the phone book.  He said my neighbor had used me as a reference and he used both of her last two married last names.  I figured she must have done so since my last name is not usually common knowledge.  He asked me to confirm if I knew her.  He asked if I could confirm that she worked, to which I said no.  I have not ever seen any paycheck for this neighbor on Social Security and she is home most of the time.  He then asked if I could confirm her phone number.  I did give him the area code and correct last four numbers, but incorrect middle-three (exchange) numbers, telling him I have her on speed dial, which is true.  He then asked me to confirm her address.  I gave him the first two of the four numbers of the address and the street name.  He then said that was right and told me the entire four numbers.  He then asked if I spoke with her regularly, to which I answered yes.  Now bear in mind that I had just recovered from a migraine when he called and was not thinking very clearly.  So, FINALLY, at the end I asked for the name of his company, not remembering if he had told me at the first of the call.  After hanging up, I called my neighbor who told me she had not used me as a reference, and would not without advising me of it.  I did a search for that company and could not find anything matching it.  So I called the number back and got the same man that had called me!  I told him she said she had not used me as a reference, but he assured me it was so.  I then asked when and it seemed he was checking a document, and then told me he did not have that information.  I asked him about his company and to clarify why he called me.  He told me NRI, a financial service.  He then asked me to give her his name, number and extension to return his call because he could not discuss any details with anyone but her.  He was always very polite.  My opinion is that it is a company calling on behalf of defaulted student loans.  It sounds like how they work, not giving out too much information so they cannot easily be identified, hoping to contact the person in default.  I am curious if the other people that have been the subject of these calls also have defaulted student loans.  Also, this is a reminder to me to hopefully be coherent enough in the future to tell the caller that I will have to confirm if I was indeed used as a reference before I can give out their information.  I most likely will consent to forward a message if I can, and, if the caller is polite.

I got a call from these people asking info about my rapist who happens unfortunately to be family. I have PTSD and am now in the hospital recuperating from a severe panic attack.

I did not answer,if I do not recognize a number on the caller ID I never answer.I can't understand why someone with caller ID and voice mail or an answering machine would answer a number if they do not know who it is.If the call is important the caller will leave a massage.

This number keeps calling me in the morning at 8 am, I just let it ring cuz im sleeping, I looked up the number here and can tell it's a scam. I blocked my number with *67 and called them Steve answered and said (if you block your # I can't help you have a nice day) I called back and that lady answered and hung up I blocked them from my phone I hope they don't call back.

I got phone call twice from 888-853-9066 asked me to "confirm" my relative's information, because "she is do bussniss with NRI" as Steve and a woman stated in the phone.  I leaked some information at the first call, but after I called my relative, I realized I had been tricked, since my relative has nothing to do with this company at all. When Steve called me this morning wanted to "confirm" my relative's information again, I didn't give him any, but told him as I known my relative has nothing to do with NRI. He asked my relative to call him before noon time, it will benefit to my relative.  I googled 888-853-9066,it brought up many sites about this number and found so many people experinced the same. My relative owns no debts from anybody. I called back and told Steve that I found out what NRI doing and please remove both my relative's and my names and numbers from their list.    At this time, Steve was rude.  He said I can hear you, I need to do other things.  I told him I requested him to remove our information from their record, we don't want to be bothered. Steve said I marked your number as a bad number.  In fact, their number is a bad number. They are liers.

They're just frauds. The Internet has brought them out of the wood-work by the Bushel. Ignore them.

"Chris" Called Mom saying they needed to verify information on her daughter, very questionable behavior  wanted money sent via India. 87 year old Mom is very worried

4/24/13 My sister got a call from this number stating they had to get a hold of me, it was very urgent matter, a matter of grave importance. They asked her if I was still alive, living in this state, was I working, when she last talked or saw me. This was done without identifying themselves or the nature of their call. My sister had just woke up and was confused at first telling them no. no. then leaked out some info before hanging up. She was wondering how they got her private cell # (since I wouldn't release it except in emergency); maybe from a doctor form I filled for emergency purposes. Does anyone know what federal agency we can complain to?

Asked if I John Leafy, I said wrong number.  Then they asked if, by any chance, do I know John Leafy...................I have debt collectors try to be sneaky.  I told them I heard he passed away a few months ago.........lol.  She didn't believe me.  If they call again, I'll tell them he moved to Angola.

I received a call from the 888-853-9066 NRI the other day same women caller as everyone else she was asking about a address for my ex wife who I have been Divorced from for 15 year and have had Zero contact with over the last 10 years..

I did not give them any info but I did some checking and through my lawyer found out that this is NOT A SCAM NRI is a collections division for Citi Bank so they were just trying to collect on a past debt.

My lawyer ran a background check on my EX and it did bring my name up as a Known Relative and that is how they came up with my contact Info.

Called by this number yesterday afternoon.Asked about relative William.UK snowbird with no relatives in USA.They wasted their money calling.

I have received at least two calls from this NRI.  When I answered the call this afternoon, no one would say anything.  So, I called back.  The girl ask for an Ann and I said that there was no one here by that name.  Then she said my first and middle names and I said that was me.  She then said that I was a relative of a Tim Harrison and I said that I was not a relative.  She wanted to know if he worked or not and I said that I didn't know anything about him.

My wife received a call from these people. They asked her if I was home and when she said I was not, they asked if we knew a (female). When my wife said not that she was aware of, the caller said, that's interesting, she knows your husband. Needless to say my wife was upset with me and wanted to know who this (female) was. My wife has just recently returned home from the hospital from cancer surgury, and is rather emotional right now. We don't need people like this calling and lieing about who I know or don't know, espically when it comes to an unknown female! When we got a second call from these people she caputered the caller ID 888-853-9066. When I called to find out who they were and what they wanted, they said "I answereed the phone NRI" with not other information. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was told he, Mark Barrientos, was at dinner and I sould call back in an hour. When I called back and asked for Mark Barrientos, he was now in a meeting, and I should call back later. When I called back the third time, Mark was back at dinner, and I could speak to a "Shannon" if I would like. Who is Shannon? She is a "Lead". After a few minutes on te phone trying to find out who NRI was and why they were calling me about someone I didn't know, Shannon became rude, and short saying she needed my home phone so she could clear my number from the data base as a wrong number. When I again asked to speak with Mark, she said he just walked in and passed the phone call to him. I got the same run around from Mark Barrientos, and he never answere the questions, Who is NRI, what does the conpany do, how did they assoiate me with (female). Not good people.

Reading all these makes me glad I have NOT answered these calls!  I've gotten two or three of them in as many days!

Same people will call you from YOUR area code BEWARE! They can steal your identity with ONLY your last 4 of your ss# and your birth date! They called my place of employment SEVERAL times which I think is illegal?? And called my cell dozens more after we didn't pick up. NO message! Everyone needs to write a Cease & Desist letter to them to STOP them from calling you!! Google that and you will find dozen's of free templates for you to write from...

They-the SCAMMERS-are calling my work now fishing for info!!! Isn't that illegal?? I don't owe ANYONE money nor does anyone in my family! They tried to get my HR dept to verify put passed the call to me and I hung up on them! Then they called my cell from 4 DIFFERENT cell #'s in my area so I would think it was someone I knew and answer! I am writing a Cease & Desist letter to NRI and also taking legal action from a lawyer that sue SCAM collection agencies for ALLLLL kinds of things!

Yep, same thing... male caller and identified himself from NRI, wanted to know if my grandmother (gave her name) was here.  Now grandmother had passed years ago so I just said "no".  Then, he asked about another person that I know by name and said that she had financial dealings with them and that he needed me to confirm some info about her.  I said that I'd have to talk to her before I did that and that NRI means nothing to me and doesn't really tell me who he is.  Suspecting a scam, I hung up.

Answered the phone.  I said Hello 3 times.  There was silence on the other end. Eventually they disconnected the call.  First time call here.
