If you are getting a phone call for a University of NE health survey:
The phone number 888-866-7354 has called me several times yesterday and today. I've ignored all of the calls, but answered by mistake a few minutes ago, thinking that it was area code 816 from Missouri, I saw. The caller is claiming to be conducting a "health survey" from the "University of Nebraska", so I listened, because I live in Lincoln, NE. Everything the other people posting here have said, is what she did to me also. Asked for the OLDEST person in the household to conduct the survey. Asked for name and address, confirmed phone number, asked age and then birthdate (I gave her my age but refused birthdate) and then said that in order to see if I qualified for supplemental health benefits since I was over the age of 55, that she needed my social security number to run it through her computer to see. That is when I realized it was a scam, refused to give her any more info, and told her that I was going to report this number to the University of NE, the State of NE and also the Lincoln Journal Star and News Stations so that this scam would be brought to their attention. She hung up. We will see if I get any ore phone calls.

Definitely crooks targeting senior citizens...
They called back after my post a few minutes ago...These people are targeting SENIOR CITIZENS...
I let them go ahead with their scam and found that they wanted to know name, address, SSN, and/or other relevant information from the SENIOR CITIZEN (me) living at this address for supposedly providing me supplementary health insurance for FREE.They even offered to DEPOSIT medical expenses not covered by my insurance/medicare directly in my bank account!!!....
Sure!, I was born yesterday...Next time I will give them the White House address so our top man gets his health plan paid by these crooks.

This is further government intrusion into our privacy. If the survey is private and random, why do they keep calling me all the time for several years?
The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) is the primary source of state-based information on health risk behaviors among the adult population 18 years of age or older living in households.
Since 1984, BRFSS has gathered information from U.S. adults about a wide range of behaviors that affect their health. BRFSS is made possible through cooperative agreements between each state or territory and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).The primary focus of these surveys is on behaviors that are linked with the leading causes of death - heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, and injury - and other important health issues.
In addition to information on health status and behavioral risks, information on a variety of demographic factors is gathered to make prevalence estimates for specific population groups possible. Thus, interventions can be directed to people at the greatest risk. Visit the Questionnaires section of this site to learn more about the survey instruments used in BRFSS. An informative brochure entitled "Turning Information into Health" also provides a general overview about the BRFSS program.
The information collected is used to improve health care for citizens on a national and statewide basis. More specifically, BRFSS data are used to:
? identify demographic differences and trends in health-related behaviors,
?monitor the effectiveness of health intervention and services,
?address critical and emerging health issues,
?educate the public, the health practitioners, and policy makers about health risk behaviors and conditions through data dissemination, formulate policy and public health initiatives,
?measure progress toward achieving state and national health objectives.
BRFSS is about people and how to improve and maintain their health. In order to accomplish that goal, valid and reliable data are needed by policy-makers, researchers, professional and community-based organizations to create policies, target prevention activities, and establish programs to assist persons in developing healthier lifestyles.

Called ID: NO DATA/TOLL FREE
The woman who called claimed to be from my state's Department of Health and/or the National Center for Disease Control (CDC). This must be a scam because I am not in Nebraska where she is calling from. Further, she said DOH and then CDC. Under the guise of an official government survey, she started asking questions about personal information. I hung up. I don't participate in surveys any more because most of them are intrusive, scams, or both. If they don't represent themselves honestly, like this one, it's even more reason to ignore them. If they were legitimate, they'd have a valid caller ID and be willing to mail the survey under the so-called state agency letterhead.

These calls are from The University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. I received 5 calls in a couple days and decided to call them back. Since my number had been dialed already, it was easily removed from their call system.
They are doing simple health surveys although their tactics are not OK. I told them their are some complaints on the net piling up. She said the number are simply computer generated. They put in an area code and the number is generated, something like that,
I don't think this is a scam but obviously a nuance. If someone calls, at least speak or leave a message. You can call 1-888-866-7354 about anytime and get your name removed so the calls will stop.

This number has called several times in the past week, claiming to be a "health survey" from the "University of Nebraska", the first being on Sunday. After that, human callers also claiming to be "health survey" from the "University of Nebraska" called. I hung up on one, and she called back in 2 minutes, and revealed that it was a "national health survey", and wanted the name of an adult in the household who could answer her questions. They don't know how to take "no" for an answer.

I usually don't take these calls, so I am not sure why I answered this one, but I can say for sure it saved my life. The caller just asked general health questions, a lot of yes and no ones. When they asked me why I hadn't had a mammogram in the last year, it prompted me to get on the ball and do just that. Well, lucky I did, there was a lump detected and if it hadn't been caught when it was the outcome would have been totally different. This caller was truly and angel in disguise for me. If I have learned on thing, there are people out there that still do truly want to help and they don't want any personal information or your money. Glad I helped them, THEY SURE DID HELP ME!!!
