Nobody form ANY company should contact you from their private email address for any reason. All employees at UPS have a UPS.com email address.

Just got the same call saying card didn't go through on a UPS bill.  Our card was compromised a few months back and I've since fixed it with UPS but think the information on the stolen card is still circulating out there and they tied it back to our company, found our number and called in to get us to give them our new number.

So I received a call today from this 888 number and gave them my CC data. After the call, I thought I had been scammed because they were asking for an update to a card that has been changed since 2008. Called Amex and cancelled my card, had a new number issued. Emailed Fraud@ups.com and told them what happened. Here is the response from UPS.com:

Dear Michael,

Thank you for forwarding this information to us. The phone call you received is a legitimate UPS communication.

For more information on protecting yourself from fraud, see our Web site at www.ups.com/fraudprotection.

Thank you again for bringing this matter to our attention.

Jeff, sorry to disappoint you but this IS a call from UPS.  I just received it, checked here, called them through web channels and they said YES it was from them.  We recently had a cc change and I had updated it in the wrong area.  Called UPS all fixed.

It *IS* UPS calling.  I ship daily via UPS and had a billing problem.  I called them back via the customer service number on their *website* and got things straightened out.  I'm suspicious of every phone call I receive like this, but it really was UPS and legit.

Called UPS direct. 8888775667 is an unpublished UPS number used for managing credit card info. I called the 800 number listed on UPS.com and after being transferred twice got to the correct department at 8008111648. The account manager said the above number is valid for UPS.

Received call today (6/9/11) supposedly from UPS stating:

"This is a reminder from UPS Accounts Receivable Department regarding your payment. Please listen to this message in its entirety to expedite resolving your account. Please contact UPS immediately at 1-888-877-5667 and select option 5 Monday thru Friday 8AM to 4PM central time.  Our records indicate that payment of your UPS invoice was rejected by the bank. Your UPS account number is (and he said my actual UPS account number, and read the letters in it in military-style phonetics...I am retired Navy veteran!) please refer to your most recent invoice to review your charges. Please contact UPS immediately at 1-888-877-5667 and select option 5 Monday thru Friday 8AM to 4PM central time. Thank you for your business."

Note: UPS corporate headquarters is located in Atlanta...EASTERN time.

Now since I know that UPS, being a major corporation, uses 800 vice 888 numbers, I called UPS and they do not have that number listed as one of their numbers.  This was very odd considering I did indeed have a rejected payment (my card had expired), so what's going on here...inside job???  Is there someone out there collecting miniscule amounts of money from hundreds if not thousands of unsuspecting UPS customers and making a fortune?

At any rate, the real UPS employee took down the information and reported it to her supervisor who is, in turn, reporting it to UPS' fraud division.

I see the first post on this thread is from February 2010, so how can this go on this long?  I know it's very easy to get toll free number service on the internet and you can set up an elaborate voice mail system with prompts, all for around $20 a month (I have a small ecommerce business and do this myself), but C'MON!  These people could easily be tracked down and prosecuted.

Tamara and William: I hope you rot in prison when you get caught.

This is yet another BOGUS post by one of the Slime Balls themselves.  They all have the same rediculous theme, and appear to be written by the same one or two individuals (compare the syntax).

THIS NUMBER IS ABSOLUTELY NOT ASSOCIATED WITH UPS. PERIOD!!

Don't take my word for it.  Do your own research.  Definitely don't beleive ANYTHING, ANYONE writes ANYWHERE, in ANY internet forum or blog.  Do, however, question the motives one may have for providing false information (lying), as well as truthful information.  The motives for trying to cast legitimacy to a fraudulent (and probably very lucrative) endeaver by posting numerous (and silly) affirmations pertaining to its credibility are obvious.

I like UPS....A LOT!  I have been a UPS account holder for many years and they have provided me with excellent service which has been second to none.  My motives for taking the time to post this are simply to try and help someone, anyone from becoming the next victim of the Unconsionable and Pathetic Slime Balls.  But don't take my word for it.

Are you kidding me?  They had the correct information for the shipment that needed to be paid for.  Gee, that pretty much proves it.  And not only that, the charge showed up the very same day!  You mean like ALL debit transactions? (even fraudulent ones).

If I thought for one second that 'Tamara's and 'William's postings were genuine, I would feel bad, and even pity them for being so naive as to call "the number" to update their credit cards.  It is obvious that 'Tamara' and 'William' (and several other 'different' posters) are monitoring these forums and posting lies in a (weak) attempt to cast legitimacy to their scam.

I encourage anyone sincerely questioning whether or not this number is legitimate to do their own research and call the number themselves (888-877-5667).  Don't take my word for it, but do consider the fact that I have nothing to gain by trying to convince anyone that this is a fraud.  I like UPS!  I think they are a fantastic company that has provided me with excellent service for years.  My only goal here is to try and help someone from being scammed by these Slime Balls.  Also question every post that claims this number is "legit" and the obvious motives for doing so.

'William'  You say you returned their call and 'updated' your CC with them.  The only question I have is what telephone number did you use when returning the call.  Did you use the number in question here (888-877-5667) that called you 'Claiming' to be UPS?  Or did you call UPS using their KNOWN corporate number?

If you (like too many others) returned the number given in the message or displayed on the caller ID, I would recommend you notify your CC company immediately because this is a SCAM.

Of course there is a real possibility (and forgive me if I'm wrong) that 'William' is really one of the fraudsters who keep citing the same 'evidence'  that because the charge was posted immediately on their online ledger and that the person on the phone had their account number somehow proves that it must have been UPS.  Those 'facts' MEAN NOTHING!  All charges post almost immediately whether fraudulent or not.  Information such as UPS account numbers, UPS account holders, and all kinds of other information are easily 'farmed' and compiled.

I also called the number from the message / caller ID.  I don't think I have enough room here to list the countless bits of real evidence that this is a total scam.  Having said that, it is one of the more plausible scams that I have encountered.  I can see how even otherwise very cautious people could be fooled by calling back this bogus number and hearing the elaborate voice mail system (although not even close to the quality of the real UPS system).  If I were not so familiar with regularly running the real UPS voice mail system 'gauntlet', I think even I could even be fooled into 'updating my CC'.

I actually navigated through the myriad of options offered when the "UPS" voice mail answered (some of the choices were 'questionable' and ended up speaking to two people claiming to be from UPS.  I spoke to one man and one woman.  As I proceded to tell the man what I though about his 'career' choice (calmly and without profanity) he continuously laughed demonically until I finished and hung up the phone.

Got the same type call, they knew my acct. number and correct balance.  They suggested payment by credit card.  The giveaway: sounds like a Pakistani reading from a script, and he kept losing his place!  Lots of voices in the background, bad connection.

I agree with William.  This is actually legit UPS.  My husband told me he called it and gave his updated credit card info, and I thought this was fraud, but when you call the number, the recording says it's UPS, and the charge from UPS showed up on his credit card today (the same day he called this number), and they had the correct information about the shipment that he needed to pay for.

Received an email claiming to be UPS (cherylrodriguez@ups.com) and saying that my credit card was rejected by my bank. They had my actual UPS account number and said to call this number to straighten out my billing. Email mentioned an old business phone number (was ours once) that is now disconnected. All looked legit so I bit.  Called the num, provided updated card and exp info and saw $45 charge show up on card. Then got suspicious and found this post.  Called UPS directly from web phone number and they confirmed card was declined and they have the new card number (read back last four numbers to me) but she couldn't confirm the exact charge, but it sounds legit. Frustrating, but so far, looks legit.

I shipped a package in Dec.09 with the receivers acct. # on it since he was paying the charges. Letter requested me to send a check but didn't have an actual statement included. Just had an amount in the letter that was supposedly due. I have gotten a couple of these letters and several calls asking for a return call. Sent an email to fraud@ups.com and was told this is a UPS #. Person who received the shipment said he contacted UPS and was told there was no problem with the cc info and the charges had been pd.

I received an automated call stating that there was a problem with my UPS account and payment.  I used our UPS account to ship a package last week.  The message told me to call 888-877-5667 ext. 5.  The guy told me our credit card on file got declined.  He have me the the last 4 digits and expiration date, all were incorrect.  I asked him to fax me the bill and he got confused/nervous sounding.

I received a call from this number on October 7th also. The caller was trying to talk me into more services with UPS (she sounded quite ignorant also). I had to hang up because she just wouldn't take "no thanks" as an answer. A few minutes later I received a fax with a "UPS of America" W-9 attached. Fax claimed I asked for a copy of their W-9. I did not such thing.

Received a call claiming to be UPS and saying that my credit card was rejected by my bank. They had my actual UPS account number and said to call this number to straighten out my billing. Since I had not recently shipped anything, I was immediately suspicious. The UPS website did not list this phone number and then I googled the number and found all the comments here - thanks to others for posting. I then called UPS and got a new account number and reported this fraud.

Ditto here, though on mine they said I had a Diners card (which I don't).  Odd thing is that they had the correct UPS account number, invoice date, total amount billed and the last 4 digits of my credit card number.   Called 800-PICKUPS and they said it was paid and that the email looked suspicious but to check with billing at 800-477-7080.  Called them and they didn't see any problems with my billing either.

If it is a scam how did they get as much detail as they did.  Does UPS have a leak?
