This is a real deal.  It is for a phone service.  They advertise pretty much everywhere.  Either someone has signed you up or you inadvertently sign yourself up through some "offer".  It costs $17.95/mo on your phone bill if you don't cancel it.  They are polite and they will cancel it (at least at this time).  They had my wife's name as signing up for something, but of course, she doesn't remember doing it.  Its either that or someone else tried to sign her up by looking up our phone number (which is listed, guess I'm going to have to rethink that).  They give you a cancellation number.

I got a call just like the other posts. The message said that I needed to call if I didn't want billing to show on my next phone bill for this 'new service'. I suspected them until they said they got a request from my niece who lives with me! Good grief, what will they think of next? What happened to the 'Do Not Call' list?

I received a message on my machine saying 'welcome to cooltel' .. call 888-898-0850 before billing starts.  When I called, it took about 15 minutes to actually talk with a person .. they claimed a "Melissa Moore" signed up for the service on the internet using my name "Michelle Moore" and my phone # but a different address.  They gave me a cancellation # .. I don't know if it's a scam on cool tell's part or if Melissa went trolling for an M. Moore and used my phone # hoping no-one would notice?

Received a call that showed up as "out of area" on my caller ID. Voicemail was left thanking me for signing up for CoolTel America
with number to call with questions. I *67 and called, DID NOT give
my phone to him as he kept requesting I do, however he said that
someone HAD to have signed up using my computer and my phone number.
He stated billing would show up on my phone bill for the service!!
Obviously a scam, hoping people will call and give them their phone
number so they will be able to SLAM you. Crooks.

Received call thanking me for signing up for CoolTel America.  Also said that I must talk to a customer service department to cancel service before they started billing.  Pressed "1" to reach customer service representative and did give him my phone number.  He then gave me a cancellation number.  Said I signed up on my computer, which wasn't true.  Who the heck are these people?

I received this call too and we have had this number for 8 months. We have gotten calls for an Anita Borden and thought she had previously had our number but she is apparently using our number to sign up for credit and whatever. I gave KoolTel my information. They were polite. Put a block on our number with the company and canceled the service this chick signed us up for. I have no doubt she signed us up based on the months of calls we've been getting and don't think KoolTel was phishing or scamming. IMHO.

I received a message from this company as well congratulating me on my subscription(even though I never signed up for this company). I called the 1888-898-0850 number and was told that I had signed up for this even though I never did(it's not even my phone!) I "unsubscribed" from this company and was informed that everything was all set. I called AT&T and they informed me there is nothing they can do since it is a third party company(completely useless). Now on my phone bill I have a charge for $18 from of course this stupid company. It's not fair that a company can just charge people for a service they one didn't sign up for and two aren't even receiving the service.

Unlike those above, I never got any phone calls about the service.  It just appeared on my phone bill. I called the # that appeared on my bill and they claimed that I had signed up online!  Yeah, they had all my information correct, but it's amazing what you can pull from a database...lol.  I got a cancellation # and gave it to my phone company, they will be handling it from there.

Why in the hell would my local phone company allow another party to place any type of charges on your home phone then they want to play stupid and dumb and say that we authorized the charge, hell if we r calling to complain, remove the charge!

They're still doing this.  I had unauthorized charges on my Verizon bill for the months of March 2010 and April 2010.  The best thing to do is to put a "block" on your account against "third party billing", as was advised to me.  Apparently, Verizon is powerless at preventing these types of fraudulent activities from happening.

Telemarketer
Cooltel Americal called to thank me for signing up with them and stated that I could call to cancel before the billing period started.  They used a name which was not mine but associated it with my
phone number.  It is obvious that they falsified the sing up since they didn't even have my correct name.
I called and cancelled the service as I bitched at them the whole time.

Same story as the above.
I cancelled the subscription... This guy couldn't even tell me what Kooltell America did.  Somehow they had permission to charge their services to my phone bill.  I doubt it.

Got home from work and had a message on my machine from Kool tell America that I now had thier service.  I never signed up for anything from them.  Called the number they left for cancelation.  A rep named Lester was very helpful and said he canceled and gave me a confirmation number.  I don't understand how this can happen.

I received a recorded message thanking me for signing up for 'Kool Tell America' and my service would start immediately. If I wanted to cancel call #888-898-0850. I called them and they informed me I signed up for their service trough a website:'I hire.com' which I did not. They said they would cancel my service and gave a confirm #. This is the second time within two days I have received messages that claim I am signing up for phone services I never did. I contacted the 'do not call list' Fcc and BBB.

My story is much like those already posted. Got a voice-mail msg. (canned/recorded msg) from KoolTel, "Thank you for signing up, etc."  And if I wanted to cancel, to call the 888-898-0850 number.

Sounds like some people have seen charges show up on their phone bill, others not. If you don't "cancel," will you be billed?

Completely annoying to have to take the time to undo something you never did.

First indication of this scam was when I found their charge on my phone bill. Called phone company, they said they could not drop the charge but would block it. Then called KoolTel (888-898-08500) Got a lot of run around. Said the had called my number and got an verification, However, my  CDI records do not show any call on the date they said they called. KoolTel finally said they would cancel it, but havent seen credit or cancelation on Phone bill yet. Called BBB and they said company has an F- rating.

Received a message on main voicemail with the same message as most others rec'd stating thanks for switching to Cool-Tell America's voice over IP & w/b receiving 500 minute phone card. Said to call 888-898-0850 with questions or to cancel before being billed.  I did call the number & got through to a rep that did cancel this "request" without any questions or hassle.  I did feel uncomfortable that she wouldn't talk to me without first giving her my first & last name, plus the company name.

I also called our long distance company to notify them of the potential unauthorized change.

My son received a call from this  unknown caller and they said they were Kooltel America so I researched the name Kooltel America this is the number to contact them 888-898-0850 and my son told them the person we did not sign up for anything with them. They also told my son the name of the person that signed us up and that person is unknown. I *67 their number with a cell phone and spoke with a person and the first thing she asked for was a phone number, I refused to give her a number, address or any information I tried to get info. from her and then she started speaking in a forign language, so I'm forwarding this info. to B.B.B. Also I contacted my phone carrier and alerted them so that if any charges appeared that are not normal or in our system. So if you get a call take part in contacting your suppliers and lets stop this Kooltel America

I received a phone call saying I had signed up for CoolTel America and could sign up for a 500 minute free calling card.  I called the number and was informed someone with a different name had signed up my number.  They took it off and blocked my number.  There should be a law against this and I will be notifying my state legislators and my representatives in Congress.
