Debt Collector
http://www.csirecoveries.com/index.html

They buy old debt that can't be collected due to Statue of Limitations, and then try to turn it into active debt with active penalties (consumer report impacts, legal action, garnishment, etc.). Their process is designed to:

1) get you to respond verbally so that they can verify information that is probably outdated.
2) to collect additional information that supports profiling your ability to pay.
3) to get you to validate the debt as yours (and thereby constitute acceptance).
4) to get you to agree to a repayment plan based upon the threat of damage to credit and legal action.

As soon as you do this, you just re-aged the debt from old and uncollectable to new and active. It is as fresh as the day it first happened.

Their messages prey on human emotion - either anger or fear, because the tone of their message is designed with one purpose - to get you to call back to start the above process.

The danger when dealing with these disreputable companies like this is that by engaging with them at any level via phone you may be unknowingly validating a debt and bringing it back into a non-aged, current status. Any conversations that you have with them are to your disadvantage.

Don't kid yourself into thinking you can handle a verbal dueling match with attorneys and colleciton professionals. They do this for a living. You're the meat.

1. Contact

Unfortunately, you have to contact them to get the harrassing phone calls to stop. This should be your only purpose, though, so do yourself a favor and don't offer anything other than name and contact number. They are required to comply with your request for 'do not call' per federal FCRA regulations. Violations are investigated by the Attorney General.

2. Keep you big mouth shut

Don't acknowledge any debt, any details or other information. Their job is to use the time to collect as much information as possible to support their claim, and to ignore your request to stop harrassment. Most of them will prey on fear and anger to get you to respond, including making claims that have no basis in reality, insulting you, attacking you or your lifestyle, or passing judgment on you morally or ethically. Don't take the bait, and stick to the objectives of getting in and out quickly.

3. Insist that all communications be in writing.

This just makes good sense. Being on the phone is not a court of law. Anything that you say is able to be used against you, and that's the only purpose of the call. They know they can sue you, garnish your wages, damage your credit, etc., and all of those processes are in writing, so if they haven't done that yet there's a reason why.

A lot of people will tell you that you're abusing the system by not owning up to your debts, regardless of age. Personally I don't see it that way. The whole 'credit reporting' system is used as a crutch to support a modern version of debtor's prison, and it is a for-profit organization, not a public service or part of government. That means it is open to broad form abuse and mismanagement, which happens all the time. When the government steps in and firmly regulates credit reporting and collection industries, I'll give the idea of owning up to every business debt i've ever incurred more weight.

We did away with Debtor's Prison 150 years ago for a reason.

Good luck.

I have do e this to numbers in the past and so far it seems to be working.

Yea this Brian Slater called my parents house saying he was conducting an investigation at this address. At first I thought it was a real detective but then I started searching for this phone number and this individual calling and lucky I found out it was a scam. Funny because it hasnt been the first time they've called me. I got a question though, has anyone else had two people come to their door leaving a paper or saying their looking for someone? Because they same day that this guy called my mom said she what looked like two "detectives" in a black truck put a sign on my door. Going to go to the police department just to make sure if it's actually them or these idiots. cause if it's them, I got my bat ready. lmao

Thanks k, it's good to know that we are not alone. My household has received the exact same call multiple times since May 9, 2012. We have  pressed number 2, to indicate we received the call in error, but the messages/calls from Brian Slater persist. Since, no one in our home has any knowledge of a problem, we have not responded. Instead, we are busy with our own investigation of sorts, and looking into purchasing a device that will block these unwanted calls from telemarketers, political candidates,  solicitors and would be scammers. So far we have not found the precision device that we are looking for, but are confident that we will. In the interim, because I think, bottom dwellers like Slater need to be stopped. I am tempted to try the suggestion of calling from a pay phone as a prompt method of returning the "pester frequently" favor.

I received the same call and did not answer.  This Slater guy then called my sister across the state, who is married with a different last name and called her.  She told them that I don't live there and never have.  I don't have any intention of calling this @$$hole back.

I also got a call from this "Brian Slater" 888-929-1343 from CSI looking for someone at this address. It was for my bf and he called them back and said it was for a old debt about 10 yrs ago and that If he didnt set up payment arrangements that day they would garnish his wages. It was a $500 credit card that they wanted $800 (two payments of $444) or $1200 if he didnt make payments cause it would be going to court. I checked the BBB and the one CM Associates Group (from there answering machine) I found was not accredited by the BBB. I stopped all payments for them and am contacting authorities.

This Brian Slater is a real piece of work.  They have been using different numbers and different names of what ever company they so choose.  I reported them to the Attorney Generals office in Florida.  The call stopped for nearly 2 months.  Now there calling again using a new number and new company name.  "THIS IS BRIAN SLATER WE ARE INVESTIGATING A PERSON OF INTEREST AT THIS ADDRESS IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU CALL THIS NUMBER BACK IMMEDIATLY THIS IS A TIME SENSITIVE MATTER".   Bull crap.  I'm so sick of the m####%$$ F****** scums bags.  I wanna kick them all to the moon.  I wanna say something else but well I think you all get the idea.

Got a similar call on my cell phone as all the other posts here on 5/17/12. This Slater guy said he is investigating someone at this address, call back it's a time sensitive matter. That's all the peice of crap said. Someone tried to scam me once before and it did not work, I'd like to line em up and beat the crap out of them before I shoot em. Sorry for the language but it's rediculous that this happens.

Received a threatening phone call from this number.  The guy was looking for someone else, other than anyone living at my address and I told him that.  He said the investigators would be showing up at my door to serve papers  for a civil action lawsuit.  He said if I refused to answer the door that they would go to extreme measures to serve! I told him go for it and I would call the police and have them thrown off of my property.  He stated that they would be within their rights to do whatever it takes to serve the papers to whom they are to go to. He was kind of a jerk.
After I calmed down from this call , I googled the number and realized it was a debt collector.  When are they going to get these as#^&&##  under control. I have lived here and have had the same number for over 20 years, but I tell you I am willing to change numbers, if I thought that would help! My husband and I have great credit.  Members of our family find it neccessary to put us as a reference, when applying for credit, without asking us of course, and this is what happens, when they don't pay! Sucks for us! We get all the damn calls.

Brian Slater called my parents phone and told my fater that I owed a bunch of money and that he was from CSI and then he started the nasty language. The local sheriff's office was called and they called the 888-929-1343 back and they were not giving any info as to identity and lauguage started again.

Exactly as reported already by silverniteowl, "Brian Schlater from CSI" called, stating "We are trying to verify location information on an individual who lives at this address. We need to hear from you immediately as this is a time sensitive matter".  My call came on 09May2012.

I called both numbers provided, from a business phone, and got their answering machine, stating the company was CM Association Group.  Googling that company name brought me to this site, to a thread for a different phone number.  Typing in the phone number left on my answering machine then brought up this much newer thread.

Bottom line - it's a total scam.  Don't give out any personal information, period.

Oh, and before any jacka$$ suggests we are running away from our debts, know this: I have none.  That's right, none.
