Is this company legit or not? They keep calling me about a credit debt on a card I've never owned?

And we don't have time for your insipid threats.  I don't deny debts, I pay the original creditor, not third party scammers.

Nada,

I'll take that bet.  More than a few of the folks on here are simply tired of scammers and scofflaws like you.  Personally, I don't owe anyone a dime and I am fairly comfortable financially.  But that hasn't always been the case.  Because I know from experience what tough times can be like, and because I have a little knowledge to share, I'm here to help people decent people squash indecent little bugs like you.  And I know for a fact that I am not the only one.

So no, not everyone here is struggling, but I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that most of them are far better human beings than you, regardless of their present financial circumstances.

(P.S. I know you said you weren't coming back, but I also know curiosity will eventually get the best of you, even if you don't reply to me.)

This number has called my work twice.  I called them back told them that if they call me on my job one more time they will be the ones served with the papers, the guy on the other end got very defensive and yelled at me then hung up, what you can dish it out but not take it?  Oh the name of the company is Western Financial Associates, the receptionist was kind enough to give me the company name.

And you sound like a shill for whatever scammer this is.

Fact is there are hundreds if not thousands of scammers out there that prey on people's ignorance and fear. That is why they are still in business.

These laws don't prevent debtors from paying..they prevent the collectors from harrassing, threatening and scaring people. Just because you owe something doesn't give a collector the right to threaten jail, court, police, visits to your house etc. And in many instances it is either old debt OR a debt you paid but some collection agency keeps selling it. It happened to me and still 15 years later I get the occasional letter from a new collection agency on a debt that was paid 15 years ago because the unscrupulous collectors bought an old debt without doing their homework.

This happens all the time and a lot of people will just pay it when they shouldn't.

So get off your high horse, you cig break is over, go back to your cube and get to work.

I am not discussing nor I am playing with YOU; I am stating facts. Consumers rights - bla bla bla - Yousound like a debtor.

These people called me on a debt that I had completely forgotten about. I took care of my debt; updated my credit report and was able to purchase a home as a result. (along with other arrangements with other creditors)

It's pathetic that you people, debtors, have to have laws to protect you not paying a debt. If you people paid off your obligation in the first place we wouldn't be having this conversation. Mine was forgotten; alot of these people I'm sure, just flat out refuse to pay and then blame it on the people calling them. It's called ACCOUNTABILITY~~ Pay your obligation and move on with your life and quit complaining. In other words, get a life~~

This isn't a discussion as to whether or not we should "pay our bills"--

This is about consumers' rights when it comes to the collection of debts.

Thanks for playing.

All these people are debtors and are trying to get away with not paying their bills. Every call is legit and these people know they owe a debt. The majority of the below people already have civil judgments on their credit report and are all debtors. Pay your bills and you won't have a complaint files against you.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.
