Debt Collector
I too received a call from this company.  This is not the first time a company has called me and tried to scam money out of me.  The last company was threatening me with charging me with fraud and a restraining order.  This company that called me today said the same speech on my voice mail that is listed above.  I have no intentions of calling them back.  If they want me they can find me.  There are ways you can check and see if there is any real pending legal action against you.  They can threaten to go to my job all they want.  They are just using scare tactics.  The last company threatened all this legal action and they didnt even have current info on me.  I dont know how these companies get away with this.  They should crack down on these scammers.  Dont pay them one dime.  Once you pay them you are saying the debt is valid and then they have got you.

If those things really happened you would have no reason to be on here telling us about it. Typical scammer shill post.

No where did you say that the collector validated the debt. That's because you can't and don't. You're clearly hoping to snare victims who don't know their rights and your responsibilities under the law into paying you money they don't owe you.

I'd say nice try, but there's nothing nice about extortion and fraud. Now it's back to the boiler room with you.

Got a call but was for a recent account I owed like $989 according to my last records I was able to pull and was able to negotiate it down to $545 I made sure I got everything in writing, called the credit agencies, and advised me to make sure I got a pay off letter to send to them and they will update my credit report. I had already read this statement above before making arrangement's so I was skeptical but my credit card company and credit agency advised me that it was legitimate. I honestly can't say they were rude or anything, I talk to a Robert Davis or something like that and was actually polite, informative, and patient, never pushed me, actually gave me the banks phone# for me to verify he wasn't lying. I'm trying to buy a house here so I am clearing my credit. I guess it depends who you talk to.

Debt Collector
I had the following voice mail on my answering machine today, 01/22/2013:

?Hello, this message is intended for (insert name).  I?m calling from the Document Service Division on behalf of LV & V Associates.  I've been retained to deliver sealed documents to you today. I need to verify that you will be there to sign and accept these documents.  If you would like to inquire about the documents that are being issued to you, or if you would like to reschedule the delivery of these documents, please contact the office that's handling your case at 888-976-1094.  Make sure that you do reference your case number #XXXXXXX.  Please note that there will only be a total of two attempts to deliver these documents with the last attempt being at your place of employment, so if you wish to avoid future action you do need to contact them by the end of business day tomorrow.  Thank you and good luck to you, (first name).?

I called the number and gave the case number and was forwarded to a guy named "Frank" who had my social security number and said it was regarding a Mastercard debt but he couldn't reveal the company because he was just someone who was hired to take calls.  He said the papers that were to be delivered to me were court documents on a debt I owed in the amount of $1,790 and that if I didn't settle this debt before the papers arrived that I would be taken to court and not only would I have to pay the $1,790 but I  would be liable for $2800 in court costs.  He said the company would settle with me right now for $490 but that I had to pay today.  I told him I didn't remember any debt and that I wanted to know what company said I owed them and he said he couldn't reveal that.  I said I didn't have $480 and he told me to ask relatives for credit cards and he would accept that.  I told him I would call him later just to get him off the phone and he said if I didn't call him back at 1-951-403-6661 in four hours that the delivery person would be bringing the court documents to my door and that it would be too late to settle anything out of court.  I hung up.

Has anyone else had this happen?  This sounds like some kind of scam to me.
