I had the same thing happen with a guy named Mr Martinez.  I told him I knew it was a scam and that I wasn't paying him anything. I told him to stop wasting his time.  I think they may leave me alone now.

I had the same Mr martinez call from this number and he said he was from my county.  If these people weren't so annoying it would be laughable at the lack of professionalism they show.  I would love to go to court with them.  Too bad they won't show since its a scam

I received a call from 1-888-978-7818.. I wasn't at home so a message was left stating that they are trying to reach my daughter and if she doesn't respond, they will pursue lawsuit proceedings. I called the number and the outgoing message stated they were BHA & Associates...then looked it up online and found numerous complaints on this site. The fair debt collection law prohibits false, deceptive or misleading tactics when trying to collect debts. Impersonating an officer is a crime in many jurisdictions and consumer credit counselors advise consumers to contact their local police departments if this occurs.

Debt collectors also cannot claim to be attorneys or credit reporting agencies -- if they in fact are not -- and cannot claim that correspondence is  legal court documents it's not.

Threats to arrest debtors or anyone else, in addition to threats to file suit, garnish wages or sell or seize property are also illegal unless collectors actually intend to take these actions. Threats to take actions that cannot be legally taken are also banned under the law. An example is the case of debts that have gone beyond the statute of limitations -- the deadline for filing lawsuits. Debt collectors may not threaten to file suit in these cases because the statute of limitations has expired.

Had a call from April Johnson. Said she was a process server from Duval County, Asked for my youngest son, when I said he wasn't here she asked for my oldest son. Told me he owed for bounced checks and an arrest warrant was being served. When my son called the number the guy said he owed 3000.00 for a payday loan but they would take 1600 today and consider the matter closed. He hasn't lived in Duval County for 6 years and the payday loan was supposed to have been from 2012. I hope she calls back again.

These people (Nicole Smith) calls  8 - 10 times in a row.  Each time it is my last chance.  Well, I don't need 100s of last chances - they aren't getting any money.  If it weren't so annoying it would actually be funny since you can tell she is reading from a script.  She says she's a process server and the company she is trying to collect for is Vandelier Group.  Don't remember the name of the company she claims to be working for.   Scam, Scam, Scam!

I got the same call today.  They wanted me to pay $700.00 made in 3 payments to cover the loan (also to the Cutter Group)  I told them I would need 30 minutes to go to the store to purchase a prepaid debit card to add the funds to in order to make the payment because I didn't want to give out my debit card number because I was worried about scammers.  He insistantly said it was not a scam and that they contact hundreds of people daily and collect  funds.  I asked if I could come into his office and he said no he was in Florida.  At that point he told me that the call was being recorded (you could tell it was not, I have been on recorded calls before and every so often you hear a beep)  I told him I was recording the call as well and I just wanted to run and get a card and I would call back.    He refused and said I needed to make the payment immediately, if I wanted more time all deals were off the table and I would be served to appear in court.  I again told him I would call right back as soon as I got a card.  He then got some woman on the phone and he asked the woman what the date was that I would be required to appear in court and she said "I can't give you that information with her on the phone"  REALLY!!! like if it was an actual case I wouldn't find out anyway.  Supposedly she was his client who he was trying to collect for.  He asked her if she would be willing to wait 30 minutes until I could go to the store to purchase a prepaid card and she said I am only the server so it is whatever you want.  So she is his client but she does whatever he says??? HHHMMM..smells of a scam..I again said I just needed 30 minutes to go and get a card and he said "we already wasted 30 minutes on this call...he became angry and said.."you know what start a wage attachment through her employer"  at that point I had had enough and hung up...

I had a call today. Had a voicemail left that stated it was Investigator Julie Jones contacting me on behalf of my county, b/c she has legal documentation that she needs to deliver to me at my place at employment or residence. She will be accompanied by an officer for security purposes but if I call back this number (888-978-7818) then I can have it voluntarily dismissed. No company name was given.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

Demand a statement in writing about the debt giving all particulars.  Tell them to send it US mail. If they don't give you that ignore 'em.  This is most likely a scam by a phony debt collector.   Don't give them any money and don't give them any information and don't talk to them; they will try to scare you with harsh talk and banding about legal buzz words.  They will also threaten you with criminal prosecution.  Ignore 'em.

Thanks for your info.  I haven't had ANY calls to my home.  They just keep calling my work.  I had the secretary ask for a number and take a message and he asked her how to send a summons in my area.  They are true scammers.  Very intimidating, but don't know proper way to do things.  They need to get REAL  jobs.  No, not talking to them anymore.

Called the number and asked for the name of the company and an address.  The operators said she couldn't give out that info. Press a little harder and gave her the so-called claim number, mentioned "Mr. Moody" and a man got on the phone and I asked again for his company name and address.   I told him that his office is calling my phone multiple times and want to send him something.  He said he can't tell me anything, and the summons will contain that info.  and then he told ME not to keep calling HIM and hung up.  No company name. no address.  Of course, there is no summons.  These guys are professional scammers. Don't talk to them.

I had a hone call from 888-978-7818 stating they were payment processing for a legal firm.  I heard from a gentleman from this firm and he stated I owed on a payday loan.  They were trying to reach me at an email address that I have not had for over 5 years.  they said I had taken out the payday loan in 2012.  I have not taken out a payday loan in more than 5 years.  I looked on line and saw that many others have had calls from the Hirsch law firm trying to collect for The Cutter Group.  I feel this a scam.
