I just got a call asking if I was planning on moving still. Is any authority doing anything to stop this? Does any one know?

Just got a call from this number, +1 (898) 985-6798. A guy with a terrible accent said something about calling from (inaudible) department, then adding business development. He did not sound too sure where he was calling from as he hesitated when I asked to repeat that - could barely make out anything he was saying. Asked if I found (my? or his?) new business address... I said I have no idea what he was talking about and he hung up.

Said they were from the Colorado Business Development Office.  What a crock!  She could barely speak English.  I had to ask her three times to repeat what she was saying.  When I told her I wanted to be taken off this calling list she hung up before I could finish the sentence.  This must be how they are getting around the do not call requests - they don't let you finish your request.  How can they impersonate government offices and not be arrested?

calls started about 4 months ago -- once a week ...the caller representing himself as an employee of a California Small Business Development agency

then in the last two weeks they have started calling almost daily ... my guess is that the accent is filipino ... but I am no language expert.

898 is a fake area code ...

They said it was ...from the State of Illinois business devolopment office with questions about moving.  These person, based on the above was impersonating a government official / agency and should be jailed.

They called twice today, the most recent introduced herself as "Crystal" or something like that. She had a heavy Indian accent. I've received calls from this "Oregon Business Development Office" for the last year and a half. They ask if we are still planning to move our business. In the old days, I seem to recall they did ask for people by name, but I don't let them get that far now.

This is the first time I've checked out the number. I tell them each time to remove me from their list and they do not.

I told this guy to stop calling me.  He said "then close your business".  He wouldn't tell me where he was calling from or what he wanted.  He got very nasty.  Said he was from the "economic business council."

When I told him to stop calling and hung up on him, he then repeatedly called my phone, which I did not answer.

The caller was a a very busy/noisy call center room.  She had a poorly disguised Indian accept and claimed to be calling from the State of California Business Development.

I have received these calls repeatedly over the last several years.  I told her that she was not calling from the California State Government and that she could not call here again.  She then said "How would YOU know" (in response to the "not calling from the state government".  I hung up on her. She tried to call back but I let it go to voicemail.

Definitely some sort of scam and I reported them the last time they called to the federal government complaint website.

Received a call today from 898-985-6798, did not answer. They did not leave message.

Here is a theory for you and it think its pretty sound. first off, i have had everything everyone else has commented on with a twist.
i took some time today to play along with them and answered a few questions. then they asked who the person in charge was, which i told them i would not answer, then they gave me the name of someone in my office.

here is why that is odd, lately, i have been getting a lot of cold calls from people asking for the same person. they say they were told that this person was on a list and listed as the president of our company which is not the case, but that person did take a call from these guys before. i think this company is phishing for details for a calling list. finally i got aggravated that they insisted they had to have answers and hung up.

guess i should have googled this sooner - i've received maybe 20 calls over the last couple months asking about the moving and so forth and wanting our information to put in their 'finished report'.  they have portrayed themselves as the business development office and the state of florida, both of which are valid entities for my area.  what a drag.  i still can't figure out what they really want.

The point of the phone charges is that many people do not go through line by line on their phone bill to look at charges. Some companies try to take advantage of this by adding small charges to many peoples' phone bills. Many phone companies do not allow you to dispute charges more than a month or two old.

Be careful of this, guy and dont give any information before you identify them because there are alot of cheting on moving things

They don't erase your number; they keep calling: it's December now and they started calling last June. They won't stop, I assume they are out of country. Other sites say it is a scam because if they can get through, they ask for some contribution.

They keep calling over and over again; told them several times to erase from the data base but either they hung up and recall or I put on hold until they hung up. They are pesty and rude and don't stop calling. They say they are from Vaughan Business Development (which of course has a different number). I have already recorded 3 other different numbers they are calling from, 8002474047, 8880005555, 8880104321. How could we shut them up?

They called saying from my state business development office...Wanted to know if I was moving. Asked if they knew something that I didnt? She hung up.

Claimed to be from the ?Minnesota Development Office? and wanted to know if our office was planning to move in the near future.  I asked her to remove us from their calling list, and she hung up.

Call claimed to be from Pennsylvania Business Development and asked when we were moving, which we are not.  She hung up when I asked for her phone # so I could call her back to confirm that she was with the Pennsylvania Busienss Development

Nothing worse than someone with a foreign accent rapidly speaking what they believe is English.  I speak enough Spanish and I always try to speak slowly and enunciate carefully - and the caller who left the message after we rejected the call - called back, left profanities and that this "was a big deal".

So, there you go.  Foreign call centers that can at least pronounce profanity . . . go figure.

Receive a call from this number at least 3 times a day from a different foreign sounding individual.  Fed Up with them calling.  They identify themself as Illinois Business Developement Co.  There is no rhyme or reason for the call.  If you play along with what they are asking for they stumple and forget extactly why they are calling.  This is phone harrassment and needs to stop

Called yesterday (twice), then again this morning. Claimed to be from the MN Dept. of Business Development, which does not exist under that name. Told the non-english speaking person we recognized her number from our scam list and she asked "what is scam?" I called her an idiot and hung up. She then called me right back and hung up on me. Time to start playing with them if they continue to call.

same deal from "State of Illinois" asking where we relocated.  Is it really about phone charges?  What is the point of this scam?

Called today and said she was with State of Texas Business Development asking if we found a new building to move into.  I hung up.  She called right back and asked why I hung up on her (HEAVY Mid-Eastern accent) and I said because she was not with the State of Texas - she murmured something else and I hung up again.

"Larry" from the "Economic Business Council" has called persistently over the last few days, asking if we have found new premises. When I tell him I am not at liberty to discuss the matter, and ask him for a call back number, he tells me I'm being rude, and then he hangs up and calls again, probably hoping someone else in the office will answer the phone. What is he getting out of this?

They tell me that they are from the City of Toronto. And ask me if my business is moving. When I ask what the call is about, they hang up.

This person named "jane" from the State Development business office keeps calling but hangs up when I ask where she got my number from.  I called back the number and it says it is disconnected.  Caller ID identifies caller from

Received these calls, they keep asking if we are planning to have other locations....

Claimed to be from the Ontario Business Development Office and wanted to verify our information. 3rd world accent. I hung up and they called back 6 times. each time I hung up or answered and immediately put them on hold which seemed to work better than just hanging up. Slowed down the cycle.

Have been getting this format call for years. This is the first time for this number. Can't call them back.
