Just remember Dee and anyone else reading.  No utility company will demand payment via a Green Dot, Moneypak or other type of untraceable money card.  If they do, it is a scammer.  In addition, even if you think a call about a missed payment may be the actual company always tell the caller you will call them back at their published number for account services and then call that number to verify what the caller stated.  At that point you can be pretty safe in making payment arrangements over the phone.

Prank Call
Received a call a Alma Ross, although my phone read the name of Rhonda Montaya.  She said she was with AT&T and that they didn't have a record of my payment for August & June and if I didn't pay $148.04 by 3pm, my services would be disconnected.  I told her my payment was made on 8/12 and gave her the amount that was paid, plus confirmation #.  She said their phone payment system has been down since 8/1 and that's the reason she was calling and that she didn't want to disrupt anyone's service.  She said I would need to purchase a PayPal Green.card with cash, no credit or debit card and once I make the payment to call her back with the confirmation.  I actually went to my bank to get the cash, but the Holy Spirit told me to come back to the house and call AT&T just to be sure.  I made the call to AT&T and was assured my payment was received and in good standing.  The AT&T rep that I spoke with said the same thing happen to her with one of her utility bills and she actually bought the card and the people was able to get the money she paid from the card.  I know this is long, but so important, for us not to fall for these types of SCAMS.  Hope this is helpful to someone.

I haven't gotten a call from this number yet, but my electric company in North Texas just sent a tweet saying that this number is a scammer who tells customers that they are behind on their utility bill, and to send them money from their credit card to avoid a disruption in service.  It's NOT from a real utility company.
