I also have received these calls and a email. I refuse to answer these calls but have listened to their messages they have left which are threatening to say the least. The email they sent also is threatening in nature. In reading these post it seems they are telling us we owe 11,958 or right in that area.

I received "Michael Davis" e-mail yesterday and I contacted the law firm Holland & Knight yesterday and told them what he is doing.  They  then contacted multiple law enforcement agencies and they sent a letter to Mr. Davis to stop this.  He is trying to exhort money from us and they told me to report this to The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) at http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx

I too have received the email.  First clue is the grammar is atrocious so far from professional you know its spam.  America Cash Advance is aware as they have a FRAUD ALERT on their website:

USING THE NAME AMERICAN CASH ADVANCE. BEWARE OF FAKE DEBT COLLECTION CALLS AND EMAILS.

It has come to our attention that one or more individuals are posing as a third-party collection agency attempting to collect debt from customers and non-customers on behalf of American Cash Advance (?ACA?). If you receive a scam call please call us immediately at 1-800-270-6258

We understand that these imposters are making phone calls and sending emails posing as an attorney with ?Holland and Hart Associates? and ?Morgan, Lewis Law Associates? using email addresses including lawdepartmentandassociates@gmail.com, federallegislation@gmail.com and attorneygeneral16@gmail.com, however, we believe other names and email addresses are used in this fraud as well. We have confirmed with the law firm of Holland and Hart that they are in no way involved with these debt collection attempts and the firm has issued their own fraud alert.

If you are contacted by one of these imposters fraudulently attempting to collect debt on our behalf, we recommend that you discontinue all forms of communication with these individuals and report the fraud to us at our Consumer Hotline 1-800-270-6258 and the Online Lenders Alliance Consumer Hotline at 1-866-299-7585. We have provided some additional information below regarding debt collection scams generally.

Loan scams can occur via phone, email and paper mail. They can vary in detail however usually include common elements:

?    Victim contacted via phone or email by scammer who says you OWE on a past loan or debt.

?    Scammer (via phone or email) says he/she works for a law firm, collection agency or government agency.

?    Scammer demands payment via wire or other electronic transfer that is difficult to trace but can be picked up anywhere in the world.

?    Threats of arrest for non-payment and or harassment of current employer can occur.

?    Scammer often knows details about you such as your address and may even have your social security number and other personal identifying information ? obtained elsewhere.

What can you do to stay safe and stop the scam?

?    HANG UP on the callers you believe to be falsely posing as debt collectors ? DO NOT reply to the email demands sent from individuals or entities that you believe to be falsely posing as debt collectors.

?    DO NOT wire money or provide your credit card or bank account information to a debt collector you do not believe is legitimate or collecting on a debt you owe. If you have concerns about your credit card account or your cell phone account, call the company using the phone number on your credit card, your phone bill or your carrier?s customer service line in order to confirm whether the activity is unauthorized.

?    REPORT scam to us at our Consumer Hotline 1-800-270-6258 and the Online Lenders Alliance Consumer Hotline at 1-866-299-7585.

?    Obtain a copy of your credit report at: www.annualcreditreport.com making sure there is no inaccurate information or unusual activity, contact the following. Your Social Security number must be provided.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Same thing here....now I'll spend the next few hours on  the phone with social security, the bank and visiting the local authorities, yay! The fact that they are able to obtain our personal info like that is absolutely ridiculous..... This happened to me a few years ago, but with a different group....Why is nothing being done to stop these people??
