I received a call from this number, but didn't recognize it and didn't answer.  A message was left by someone named Terrance Davis with Allen Price & Associates.  The message was for someone named Misty Wallace (that is definitely not my name).  He said there is an open investigation where this name and SS number ending in 2697 is involved.  He said It will be in your best interest to return his call.

This kind of crap irritates me!!

Paying these criminals will not make them go away.  Never pay anyone who can't send you validation through the US mail, and then only if you recognize it, you are sure you are obligated to pay it and you are sure they have the right to collect it.

Scam alert: Bogus debt collectors
By Leslie McFadden ? Bankrate.com

Bankrate reporter Leslie McFadden contributed this entry.
This scam isn't technically about credit cards, but it is scary enough to post a warning.
The Better Business Bureau issued an alert today saying consumers across the country are
getting phone calls from bogus debt collectors claiming default on a payday loan. Of course,
the consumer needs to pay a large fee to avoid arrest -- as much as $1,000.

The post that was posted by Alfalfa was only a half truth. The people indicted in this case
used middle eastern associates to hide from the FDCPA laws and regulations. I reported on this
case and did extensive research on the subject matter.

If the debt collector can provide proof that the debt exists such as paperwork that indicates that it is a true and valid debt owed and contact can be made to the original holder of the debt, 9 times out of 10 the debt is valid. If the debtor can go back in their personal records and validate it, the only way to stop this is to pay what you owe.

This is a criminal extortion ring operating out of India. ABC News released an investigative report on it in June. The FTC has indicted one of its ringleaders for criminal fraud:

Called my brother then called me claiming to be from Allen,Price and associates investigating a fraud case. Told me if I didn't pay them first 3600 dollars that I was going to have a warrant out for my arrest in the next 24 to 48 hours. don't know if its a scam or not but I have gotten a few of this types of calls since I applied for a loan back in 09 so I guess I'll take my chances on this one as well wish me luck
