Stop them?!?! Do you think anyone posting here has any influence on them? Are you really that thick?

Your new phone number is somebody else's old phone number.
Also, the scammers use "wardialers" ... devices that dial LOTS of numbers; new, old and in-between.
There is really no reason to get repeated calls from obnoxious callers.
Simply get a phone number blocking service, app or device.

I called this number back after it rang my phone and was silent for a minute or two before finally hanging up. When I called it is a number for student loans and after hitting 1 for english they transferred me quickly to an agent. I told them no one lived at my number with a student loan and she seemed very helpful and said the number should be removed although there may be a call in the next 24 hours before it is removed from the system.
The agent was very nice about everything and it only took a couple of minutes total.

National Student Loan Service Centre manages Canada Student Loans and loans from most provinces. If they are calling you, I think you should take the call. They are not debt collectors - if they have delinquent accounts, they get passed to a collection agency - generally Tricura.
However, they may be calling because (a) someone has given your phone number as their own (b) you had a student loan in the past and they need to talk to you about it (c) you have current student loans and they are trying to update their contact info (for instance, you gave them an email address and messages are bouncing back.
Whatever it is, your best course of action is to speak with them and figure out why they are trying to get in touch with you. If you do not have any current or past student loans, it's an easy fix.

It's a third party company calling on behalf of student loans...usually when you're just one or two days late on your student loan payment...they seriously escalate fast!
