Its not me calling.  My old phone number is being used as a scam of some sort.

I got the same call today from 'Jessie' at 'SBT research company; about a smoking survey. I said I wanted off the list and she said she'd call me back. I told her not to call me back and she started repeating 'call you back, call you back; over and over. She must have said it 10 times!! I asked again what her name was and this time she said it was 'Chelsea' and said 'What's wrong with your hearing, I already told you my name.' I asked for her Employee ID number, which she said was 288 and then she said she'd call me back tomorrow and hung up.

Any suggestions, people? I have 2 kids under 3 years old and the call was at 10pm. If they do this again I might lose it!! And by the way, I'm on the 'no call list' but it's not doing much good!

They called a number of times, finally, I answered to see who are these people.  They said they were a research group but said it so quickly, could not follow.  It was a middle-aged woman, Canadian, no accent.  Asked if I smoked, if I had asthma and if I had any dogs.  Then asked if I rented or owned!  At this point said I was not comfortable answering this and she would not take no for an anwer. Asked it again in a superior tone of voice.  Said again Not Comfortable to answer this and hung up.  They phoned two more times despite this.  It seems to be a scam to see if you own home or not so that can take the property, had this distinct impression.  Do not answer their questions.

Some dude from SPT Research Company in Philippines just called me and said he had a 40 second survey. Started asking personal questions about if we rent or own our house, how many years, what jobs we are in now and for how long. Sounded like they wanted to know questions for a credit card application so this scared me. Got their apparent company website: sbtbpo.com but can't be sure if they are real or not. Dude hung up on me when I said I wouldn't answer his last 2 questions. Pretty strange. Hang up on people like this.

Isn't there some law being broken here?  It seems this discussion thread alone serves as proof that they have no regard for peoples' privacy or the government's "do not call list" that I signed onto 2 years ago. That list seems to be completely ineffective, BTW, because ever since signing on I have not noticed any reduction in these types of calls. If anything I have noticed an increase.  Does anyone have advice for how to avoid recieving these types of calls? Answering the phone has become almost pointless in our household.

Sat and Sundayevenings around  dinner time have received 4 calls so far from this number and it is annoying.  Asked about the smoking survey the last 3 times they did not answer.  We did a call back and received a message as this number is no longer in service.

Sorry all the number was 905-387-0514 not 0814 and it does show up on call display.

Here is what I found out by doing a little digging.

I called my phone company and the number 905-387-0814 is owned by All Stream Corporation and they use Bell Canada.  

Call you phone company and they will tell you all of the same above and below.

We can block the call but it costs us and it may not stop.  Any telephone company can stop the telemarketers who are inside of Canada but they can not stop telemarketers calling from outside of Canada and this is why we get calls even after putting our name on the ?no call? list or have the call blocked.  The only solution is to change our telephone number and depending on the phone company us use and inconvenience costs us there too.  

In other websites that talk about this phone number, there was mention of Equifax and credit info that once they had your name and livelihood they could check out your credit and possibly damage your credit.  If you read some of the other websites you will see that these callers have threatened a few people.

I worry for the lonely, possible vulnerable and maybe elderly person who might not be on their game when these people call.

In our house hold, we do not give out any information to any unknown persons and even if we do, we do it in person and not over the phone.  We have a special button for those callers and never talk to them.  Call display is a very wonderful feature don?t you think?  It is right up there with answering machines.

If any one knows of a way to fight these people, please speak up and bless you.

There number is spoofed. There not calling from Toronto people. so calling the cops on that poor person who ever's number they decided to use isnt the best option. By the way, the DO NOT CALL List of Canada, is sold to telemarketers. Dont believe me? Google it up and ull see that when you apply to it, your number is sold.

I tried calling this number back, and it said it was not in service.  They called 3 times today and didn't leave any messages.

This number has called my house for the past several days, many times throughout the day and i'm very displeased. I have repeatedly told them to stop calling my house, but they will not accept no for an answer. I have searched the 411.ca website, and found the following information;

I know there have been many complaints about this number, as there are links to multiple people and websites asking the same question.

they've called many many times over the course of a few days--Today I asked for the name of the company, and asked them to take me off their calling list--he ignored me and kept talking. I asked again to be taken off the calling list--he stated "I cannot do that" and hung up.

They just again today.  I wasn't going to answer at first, knowing it was this same company that called twice in 5 minutes yesterday.  I must admit, so far they have told me the same name of the company when I ask.  The woman today, who I could BARELY understand - very strong accent - sounded maybe Chinese or Japanese.  When I asked what company she was calling for, she said SPC.  I haven't googled them yet.

She started into her sales pitch of which I could NOT understand, so I tried several times interrupting her to ask WHY she was calling.  She would not stop talking, and since I couldn't not understand her, I just hung up.

If they call again, which I know they will, I am going to ask them to REMOVE my number from their database - that I am not interested.  I'm also going to tell the next caller that their calls are becoming Harrassment, which I do not appreciate.  I'm pretty confident they will hang up.

Yes I'm getting calls from this number also.  In fact twice in the past 5 minutes.  I just got home and the phone was ringing when I walked in so I checked the number.  Didn't answer.  They rang back 5 minutes later.  I didn't answer then either.  

When they called a couple days ago I asked the woman where she was calling from.  She said British Columbia.  I asked her what her call pertained to.  She said just a short 2 minute survey.  I again asked what it pertained to and she again said just a short 2 minute survery, but wouldn't say a survey for WHAT.  

I told her I was just on my way out the door.  She insisted it would only take 2 minutes.  I insisted I had to leave and wasn't interested.  She said, but it will only take 2 minutes.  I said, I don't have 2 minutes right now, and I'm not interested, so have a nice day, BYE, and hung up.   Next time they call, I'm going to answer and say  "Hi, Dino's Pizza, what would you like to order?"

Wired call from this number !!!! Tried to call back got message "number you are trying to reach is not in service" WHO ARE THOSE ANONYMOUS INVERTEBRATES

Love my Panasonic phone added this number to the block call list. Don't believe the number you see on call display it is easy to fake, it's called spoofing . Google caller display spoofing if you want to see how it works.

I look at my call display every time my phone rings.  If I see an area code I don't recognize, I don't bother to answer the phone.  If it's something important, they'll leave a voice message.  Then I program my phone to block that number.  I'm on the DNC list too, but it hasn't helped.  I still get these types of annoying calls.

Continue to call and call have asked them to stop, but they won't!!

Constant calls from this number with dead silence every time. How can we shut down annoying calls like this. We should have more protection. Operator says nothing can be done.

This number keeps calling on my work phone after 9 pm. Even though I am never at work at the time they call, its still so annoying. They have been calling constantly for over a week. Its weird because my work number is not listed anywhere! God knows how they get our numbers.

Called 5 times a  day for 5 days ... did not answer anything but keep calling .

The guy had an Indian accent.  He asked if I was a smoker, I said no. He asked if I had allergies. I said no. He asked if I had any cats or dogs, I said yes. He asked what my husband and I did for a living and how long we'd been at our jobs. Then he asked how long we've lived where we live and if we rented or owned. Then he said thank you and that we'd be entered into a draw to win a prize. I assume this is a scam of some kind, so I added him to my unwanted callers list.

I asked who was calling and they hung up. Why can't these types be regulated out of existence. I am concerned for the more vulnerable prey that they no doubt get hold of. The minute they assess you as not vulnerable they bail.
