They left a recorded message on voicemail to say they are Amex security services and to call back.  I don't even have a frickin Amex card.  Knuckleheads.

This is Canadian American Express fraud department.....I called this morning and they were confirming irregular usage of card

It IS an Amex number. In my case it had to do with a fraudulent transaction on my credit card. I suggest actually answering this one.

This isn't the typical scam caller, It is indeed Amex fraud prevention services. They called both my cell and home phone to inform me of a possible fraudulent transaction. And it was a fraudulent transaction of $2K that they denied so it's nice they pay attention to those. Though now I'm waiting at least a week to get a new Amex card.

I did apply for an AMEX card and l just received a call from them asking if l could call them back within their hours of operation. Haven't called back yet but will do so now. Would seem odd that they would indeed be trying to scam unless they somehow found out l applied for a card yesterday but how could that be since l applied on AMEX's official site......

Called me claiming to be from AMEX left a message saying they were calling about an enquiry I had made. I'M NOT WITH AMEX!! Never delt with them... total scam!!

I got a call from this number and said from Amexpress, she asked my birthday. I refused

They called me from 1-800-668-6500 first then in another hour, they called me from 905-474-8000

Both are suppose to be listed as AMEX numbers

This wasn't collections or marketing, at least for me.  It was AMEX Credit Card verifying some purchase I made (and then cancelled) online.

doubt it is actually AMEX calling.

Same thing as others - got this number and when I picked up there was no answer and person hung up. Glad to know it is just AMEX. I applied for a card 2 weeks ago... mabye they are just verifying that my number works? I have no idea.

This is amex fraud prevention guys, at least it was for me, not telemarketing.... I suggest answering, could potentially save you time and money.

This number has been calling repeatedly and when I answered there was no one on the line. Finally today I filled in a complain with the CRTC.

it's pretty bad how many times they call my cell and home number... first time they hang up and after - i did not answer... if's its so important - leave me a message. they never did. so how could i know that it's not scam????

Calls a care facility where we have 3 incoming lines and just hangs up.  This is a very busy facility, and this number needs to be shut down.

You are calling incessantly.  I do not pick up and will not pick up so please desist with the calls.

Had 2 phone calls from that number first time did not answer, second time I answered and they hung up... very suspicious...

I have been receiving calls from this number daily, around noon, at my office phone number.  I have taken the practice of not answering any "unknown name/number" type of calls I do not recognize.  The odd time I forget or think it might be someone relevant, I answer and find out it's another telemarketer/survey type of call.  They have been leaving non-message voicemails on my home phone too, very annoying to have to go through and erase them every night.

Be patient and ignore them for awhile, they will eventually stop.  This has worked at home/office for both unwanted emails and phone calls.  You are only letting them know you exist if you answer or call them back (which they take as a cue to keep going), even if it's only to say you want to be taken off their email/call list.  Ignoring is the best solution.

Getting 8 calls a day On cell from this number do not have an American express card or number getting very mad at this scam

I just called American Express' official customer service number and confirmed with the employee that this is in fact an AMEX number. I'm wondering though if they use bulk telephone lines and if someone can actually use the same number to do fraud. Anyways, just thought I'd let everybody know. I will still not be answering it...

I keep getting calls from this number on a regular basis on ym cell phone. Usually, if I don't hear an "Hello" immediately, I hang up so I did because it seemed like an automated machine dialing. Thanks for previous comments, now I know not to answer and I'll try to have my phone company block the number.

Called me claiming to be from AMEX, supposedly regarding some promotion they were having, asked me to provide date of birth for verification. Wouldn't do that so they hung up. Scam for sure. Blocked it on my phone.
