I also received the same letter yesterday and a check for $4,995.00
Keep in mind, however, if you do cash the check, banks can only do so much to make sure it's a real check. It could actually come back to bite you in the butt up to 3 years later if the check isn't real. Just because it shows up in your account doesn't mean it's real money. I'm gonna call the number, but I definitely don't believe it's real......we'll see.

Check looks real tho. Why doesnt anyone call them.. or take the check to a bank and let them read the letter for athenticity . It may be a scam but how will we know for sure.

I received a letter today from The Shaw Group mentioning Readers Digest and Pub. Clearing House along with a check. The instructions were to call a number (I did not) to authorize and activate the check. The check constituted the 3.8% Government recommnended taxes on my winnings. I wonder what country they come from! 3.8% Ha. I am thinking about taking the letter and check to the police stateion a let them check it out. What do you think?

I received a letter also claiming that I had won the lottery, they even put Readers Digest and Publishers clearing house's name in the letter. (I guess to make it seem authentic.) The name on the letter said Shaw Financials and the name on the fake check said The Shaw Group. I went online, and The Shaw Group is not a lottery company but a contracting company. Beware of this scam.

nhra has a nice write up on there website. this is fraud & they are asking for us to send e-mail with your name so detectives can work case. we just got fake letter today. nice this site and there notice of DON'T CALL ITS FAKE are 1st two googles that came up.

That same phone number 905-781-2261 was in a letter I just received about winning a lottery. Obviously I think the whole thing is a fake and I didn't actually call the number because I thought it might run up some false charges. Do you have any idea who owns this number? Thanks
