Same company saying for charity. I said if they wanted my contribution to mail ms more information and I'll decide after that. They said no problem but then said we just need you to confirm you will donate first. I said never over the phone will I donate without seeing something first. They finally gave up and said forget it then. How can anyone say this isn't a scam.

Agree, however I have asked that they stop calling, unfortunately this has just increased the # of calls. Found a feature on my phone where I can 'block' telephone numbers, anyone calling from this number will now get a busy signal, hopefully this will put a stop to the calls. Check you phone you may have same feature allowing #s to be blocked without paying for the service through your phone provider.

While it's true that charities are exempt from the DoNotCall Registry, *ALL* telemarketers including charities are required to maintain internal do-not-call lists and to add you if you so request it, good for 5 years.

After a 10 second pause on the line, they call me by name "Mrs. _____" and said they were the police association. I told them I was on the Do Not Call list and requested they remove me from their list. They said the DNC list does not include charities.....I told them again to remove me from their list.

Well they may be collecting or they may be not. All i know is that they're harrassing my house with phone calls that i dont want all times of the day and evening. STOP bugging people with unwanted calls whoever you are. The internet is a useful communication tool and i think its good that we share information this way.

After a long pause once I answered the phone Mr. Anderson introduced himself in a rather rude manner as a representative of the Ontario Police Association and asked for the head of the household. I took the phone to the head of the household (elapsed time 10 seconds), by this time Mr. Anderson had hung up. Great rep. of a police agency. And they are seeking donations?

Xentel really does collect money for programs that different Police Associations do. Usually the Police Associations are raising money to support programs that help underprivileged kids or raising money for other charities. So I'm not sure how they would fall under something considered to be a "scam". Also, they do not need Credit Card info. They can easily send you an invoice which represents whatever organization they are raising money for, and the checks are payable to that organization.
It is a shame the internet is used this way to further perpetuate slander/myths.
You can see for yourself by checking page 7 of the PAO magazine:

Hi there. Just got a call (didn't answer) from the above mentioned phone number. Having had a weird feeling I looked the phone # up on yellowpages.ca and it brought me to this page. Glad I looked it up...sounds like a really bad scam to get caught up in. Just letting you know they are still calling ppl.

Just got one, they are Xentel -
claiming to be collecting charity money for Canadian Police Association community program. They tried to get my credit card # in a sneaky way. When I hung up on them I got a flurry of auto-calls from another # :
416-646-3133
like 4-5 calls. they just wouldn't let it go. Very fishy. I reported them to the Canadian agency phonebusters.com
You can confirm that site via http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/scams-fraudes/tf-ft-eng.htm
