I got am email this morning about my MC, from "Tech Sgt Ken Grandy", same message as all the others, I am a former Marine, so after I asked where he was stationed state side, and te name of his Unit/ Squadron the messages stopped. It's sad that there are scum like this ruining this country.

Yup....just got mine this morning from a Cycle Trader ad posted by my company. The name has changed (Tech Sgt. Ken Grandy) but the text in the email I received this morning is the exact one you all posted. I replied with a less than kind response. Apparently this idiot will try to scam your average Joe AND commercial business's like mine.
 

This is still an issue. Selling my car on cars.com and craigslist. replied to text and got the same email from Tech Sgt fred Hudson.  Such BS.  SCAM! Avoid!

Wow! I received this massage yesterday

They are still at it on Feb. 24, 2014.  I just received the same text for a car I listed on cars.com last night.

What was the scam?? Did they try to got your vehicle, get your bank account information, Money??

Looks like the Ssgt is still at it.   He contacted me this morning (1/29/2014) regarding a Jeep on Cars.com.     THANK you to the community here for keeping track of these b*****ds.

Well I guess there is a reason this type of action is called phishing..eventually someone will bite.  Luckily for me I'm in the information security business so I can see a scam 1000 miles away.  This bonehead tried to do the same thing to me,  Here's his email..  I have to laugh.. I was born at night but not last night buddy!

Exact same thing just happened to me... Text from (909) 494-2495 at 3 AM.  I responded and he sent me the same email everyone else seems to have received.  I would suggest staying away from this crook.

I received the same message from Tech Sgt Fred Hudson about my BMW ad

I saw on other forums that they will pretend to send you money, plus extra for the pickup company, but he will freeze all the money until you send real money to the shipper on their behalf.  They want to scam the shipping money for the car, not to get your car.

Another thing is that emails from car sales sites will reveal the buyer's IP.  But the scammer texted my phone, and asked me to email him directly, thus hiding his IP.  Another scammer contacted me via a car sales site, sure enough, IP in Nigeria.

Jan 14, 2014. Got the same message from "Tech Sgt Fred Hudson" about serving overseas. Asked for my paypal, full name, phone number, supposedly to pay in full for my car.  Does anyone know what kind of fraud he can commit with these pieces of info?  Are these 3 pieces of info enough to steal identity?  It is not difficult to get someone's name, email and phone, you know.  His number this time is 785-379-6146.

Just got the same message regarding a car I posted on cars . com.  Who would buy a car with out test driving or seeing it. Right away I knew something was wrong and I Google his name and saw these messages.

This scam is still going on I nearly got caught out today.  Don't be fooled by it no buyer would want to buy a car without looking at it.  Thank God for my wife one of us has a scam alert on

Tech Sgt Fred contacted me via text re:cars.com ad. I responded via gmail and got the weird syntax oddly worded I'll buy it now for full pop. Writer was not a product of a school district in the USA for sure. Knew it was bogus, though hoped it was not. Sure would have liked to sell the car for our asking price. Maybe the next one?

Just received the same message, in which I couldn't resist but to respond with a nasty message back, he responded an equally vulgar message back which is when I told him he should get off his lazy a** and get a job like the rest of us. :) definitely a scam!

I got Tech Sgt Fred Hudson trying a pay pal scam on me same number

Same exact scenario for me this morning at about 10am EST. Just put my car on cars.com yesterday. Same text message you described. Won't be responding. Thanks.

I received a text in the middle of the night with the same scenario....person on duty serving for the country until Dec.20 & wants to buy our car, without ever seeing it!  Wanted to work through their PayPal account.    Figured it was a scam!
