I believe you're lying. You are posting on behalf of the scammers or more than likely, you ARE a SCAMMER. You claim that it was YOU who called them for "support". That means you already knew the number, so why would you google it? Or enter it here for reverse phone number lookup?

The vast majority of routers are set to automatically update the firmware. The first point of contact for firmware updates is usually your ISP.

In my case, I called for support of my router and was advised to download the file so he could help me update my firmware for my router. I wondered what my computer had to do with the firmware of my router, but whatever he did... fixed my problem, so I have to say... I am happy! PS: I DO NOT WORK FOR THAT COMPANY. They didn't call me out of the blue. I called them.

Oh, I forgot.  Yes, most likely the posts saying that this is a good idea are coming from that company because disreputable companies try to stay on top of the bad media surrounding them on the internet and turn it around if possible.  This same tactic is used by file uploaders on the internet.  Upload malicious software and call it something that everybody wants (ex: the latest "cool" song) and then write comments posing as other downloaders trying to convince everyone the file doesn't have a virus.  Thats all for today!

Ok, I wanted to put my two cents in as well.  I work for an upstanding IT company and we do a lot of work with remote support.  Teamviewer is a good tool and it is not inherently bad.  Everyone who spoke against allowing this over the phone at random is correct though.  No legitimate or trustworthy company is going to "cold-call" you and ask for access to your computer.

The only time a company should be calling you is if you are paying them to check up on you periodically, and most of the time you will be calling them.  Most remote support software has a file transfer option as well, so even if these people on the phone don't do anything obviously bad while you are watching, they can still transfer malicious software onto your computer in the background without your knowledge during the "one time" session.  Using the sofware they put on your computer they could have completely invisible control of your computer at any point after that.

We use a software package at my company (that the customer pays for) and it allows us to remote in while someone is working (unnoticed by them) and watch what is going on or manipulate things to find and fix problems.  Whomever is calling you may actually be a "legit" company, but not all companies are ethical.  So now that I've provided a few more details to this subject all I have to say is...unless you asked for their help DO NOT give them access to your computer.  They may very well have a scary amount of information about you to try to trick you, but don't fall for it.

This is definitely a scam! For those people who gets this kind of phone call, please let Microsoft know about it by contacting 1-800-936-5700. You can verify this phone number by going to http://support.microsoft.com/ which is a website for Microsoft's Kb articles. If you have any malware issues, you may use Microsoft Safety Scanner or Microsoft Security Essentials (Applications which microsoft created to fix malwares). For the TeamViewer thing, please don't download or install this free remote access application. Yes, it's true that the password for this program changes whenever your computer restarts. However, once installed, anyone can create a custom password without your knowledge. Not to mention, somebody might do a file transfer in the background while they are connected to your system.

Got a call from this number claiming to be from Microsoft.  Had a heavy indian accent.  Said he lived in California. When asked which city, he said Malibu and spelled it "Velbue".  Couldn't give me another city name.  Could hear operators in the background explaining the same thing to others on the phone.  Obviously a scam.  Stay Away!

Yep - This is a SCAM.  Don't download ANYTHING from these guys!   I got a call this evening from a 'James Wilson' with a very heavy Indian accent claiming that he worked for Microsoft.  Like everyone else, he claims that my computer has a virus and they can clean it up.  He claims he works directly for Microsoft.  He claims Microsoft has 'detected' a virus on my system (but didn't have a good explanation as to how Microsoft detected this).  He wanted me to go to www.teamviewer.com.  I asked why this was not a Microsoft website.  He claimed that Microsoft uses this website. .  blah, blah, blah.  It' all totally sketchy.  I didn't even get to the point where he wanted me to buy something.  I asked why my Norton anti-virus software couldn't find and fix the virus.  He didn't have a good answer.  SCAM!!!

Got a call earlier from (317) 641-9987 from a guy named Shawn (who sounded Indian) saying that our computer had a Trojan virus.  He said his supervisor's name is James, and we were asked to call (909) 647-9546.  Thinking that this had to be a scam, I looked up both numbers, leading me to this site.  Thank you guys so much for helping me out!  I hope this scumbag burns for wasting our time.

This is bogus folks. Don't you think a Multi-billion dollar company would have better things to do than monitor the millions of Us internet users and randomly call them to sell them a product to "clean" a computer? It's a scam folks. Don't fall for it.

These messages that say allowing remote access to an unknown stranger over the phone being a good thing are obviously working for said company or high on drugs. You should never allow access to your computer to someone who randomly calls you and tells you to install a program. Come on people! How gullible can you be?

Man If you have the basic knowledge of computer than nobody can cheat you,,and before putting finger towards anybody try to understand all the things,,team viewer is a software that supports Microsoft products and by putting someone on team viewer cannot give access for a life time,,,because it gives access for one session,,because after one session the password get changed,,so there is no chances at all for any scam,,,and these guys are doing a wonderful job,,they actually do all the things infront of your eyes,,and they actually solves the problem ,,not make fool like other technical support companies,,In just $99 they are giving the security services for 6 years and for unlimited computers and laptops,,what else you want from them,I personally have taken $99 package and they have given security to my 12 computers in my office,,and all my computers are working awesome........
