You also can report this to your Attorney General Consumer Protection office.  File a complaint with them.

I just received a call from this same number (916.238.8305) I listened to all he had to say - stating that his name was Mike Brown and he was calling from The Law Offices of Johnny Best (sounds like a cartoon character to me...lol) I told him that I recently filed bankruptcy and that there was no way I owed him or anybody else & to not call my job anymore. He told me that he didn't care and that he was going to keep calling until I was arrested. I told him that I was going to call the FBI and he still didn't care. He actually started cussing at me and of course, I cussed back at him (LOL) and then I hung up. These people even called my Dad looking for me and he lives in California and I never give his number out for anything!! So yeah, this is a scam. BE BEWARE!! Since when does a debt collector have you arrested anyway??? Get serious!!

916-238-8305: this number called me saying that if i did not send 200.00 I would be arrested. I also was told to call 1-714-584-9436 to make future payments.  I have called back letting them know I have reported them to the FNI and Federal Trade Commission. They called me back and said they were sending a check back that the payday loan company declined my payment and they were sending my check back.

I did too, and I sent them $100 and that was because they said if I didnt I would be arrested that day. I called back after I found out it was a scam and told them I reported them to the local authorities and the FBI and the Federal Trade Commission.

I also received a message from a John a Best Attorney firm stating that they were going to send the police to arrest me on my job and my house for a payday loan from 3 years ago....They are very intimidating but you can stop them from calling if you call the BBB the phone number they called from was 916-238-8305

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

This number called me several times..when I asked "How do I know this isn't extortion" Mr "John Smith"became irate and proceeded to hang up the phone in my face..threatening me isn't going to place any extra money in your pocket..get up and get a real job & work for a living as I do..!

I just received a call from this number asking me if had a lawyer, these peoplevare such scammers, they want to threaten you, then tell you that you can avoid a lawsuit if you send them money via western union or a prepaid debit card. the caller id said rio linda

These people called me first which I did not recognize the number. Then about 2 mins.later I went into my place of business and picked up my paycheck and while I was standing there they called them. When I stepped outside I returned there call and they calmed I was being sued. I told them they would have to send me the paperwork and they hung up. These people are so sick. I was afraid at first and then I replied to them and they could not hang on.

Just received a call from this number on our general office line. Man with an Indian accent, kept asking for the name of a person who does not (and who never has) work at our company. He kept asking for a manager, but the woman he was speaking to was the owner. Guess he didn't believe her or something. Kept saying it was regarding a legal matter and that this non-existent person was going to get sued blahblahblahblah. Dude was getting angrier and angrier because my boss wouldn't transfer him to a manager and kept telling him that the person he was looking for does not work there. He said he'll call back tomorrow and talk to someone else. ;] We're the only two people who work in the office.

Sounds like one of those 'debt collection' scams to me.

\Received several phone calls during a period of 8 hrs, from this number 1916-238-8305, Rio Linda Ca. No one answers but it is a major annoyance!

I received a call from this number today, stating that i had 3 warrants for my arrest in the state of
South Carolina. That i had an outstanding pay-day loan. And i broke banking laws for having
the money put in my account and not paying the payday loan..  Then he starting asking me all these
questions and said he was taping me so what ever i say would be used in the court of law..
I told him i checked his phone number on line and it's listed as a telemarketer number, and a harassment
number and people reported it. And i was taping him also and hung up on him...

This sounds like extortion dressed as debt collection. The agents' horrid threats are empty and their conduct is illegal. As early as possible it's critical to determine if your collector is domestic or yet another South Asian faker. The former you can sue into submission; the latter tend to be out of reach.

Sylvia,  no legit debt collector can threaten you, they are also not allowed to give info to a 3rd party like your boss.  My advice record any future calls and fill out a  report with your local police dept, FTC. or FBI . They are fraudsters. I did all 3. I haven't had anymore calls.

Boss called me stating he had received a call (message) from Jacob Taylor at 9162388305 stating I should have my attorney call him right away.  This person also left a message on my phone stating that if I didn't return his call, "heaven help me on what was about to happen".  Stated I was going to be sued.  Had a very broken eastern Indian accent.  I received a similar call like this two weeks ago from a Florida phone number; sounded like the same guy.  I called the number about 8 times and no one ever picked up the phone.

I got a call from this number regarding an arrest warrant out on me.  I asked what my charges and they would not tell me.  Its a scam.  They claim to be a law firm
