I received a call from this number from a Mark Richter/Victor, he stated that I had taken a payday loan out and had not payed it back and that the company didn't want to work with me but decided to pursue me thru court by charging me with 3 felonies. He told me that I would have an arrest warrant out for my by 3pm Mountain time. I would also have my disability payments stopped until this was resolved, so I would have no income coming in. I asked what I could do and the man stated I had 35 min to come up with $495. That I needed to go to a local Walgreens to get a Vanilla Reload Card to pay that amount since they wouldn't take anything connected to a bank account. After hanging up I called my Mom to tell he what happened, she called this man to ask a question and he blew up and her and told her she had no right to call him. Then he left a message on my home voice mail, "You called you Mom, well now you'll see what will happen, we're going to go ahead with our charges right now, Im going to make sure that you are crying in court and spend 6 months in Jail suffering, when you come out you wont be able to get any financial help, Im going to make sure you lose you disability payments, and make sure that you have to pay at least $6000 to  us. Im also going to contact your local FBI office to come and take you to jail. So make sure your Mom is there with you when your sentenced. Best of luck Lady."  I called both the BBB and Dept of Finance they said it is a a scam, but between the calls and this message Im feeling both harassed and stressed out...  I almost had an asthma attack because of how this man was, Ive been thru a lot in my life I had Cancer and 15, and when this loan happened from what i was told, had my whole right legs bones from my hip to my ankle replaced during that year. So to have someone say they are taking away my only income was just low. Ive survived alot but this man almost made me go to the ER in a panic

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

ABC News released an investigative report on this scam in June. The FTC has indicted one of its ringleaders for criminal fraud:

What I am upset about is wondering if my Social Security number has or has not been compromised.  If a scammer wants to threaten people, then they should at least study the Fair Trade Lending Act..

I would like for these a**holes to stop calling our home 20-25 times a day. It's real sad when you trying to do business but the outcome is harassing calls about grants, loans and now prosecuted for loans that don't even exist.

This is such a scam. They keep calling me and when I was finally able to get in touch with someone, he told me that I owed money on a payday loan from CashAdvanceUSA. I told hime that he was full of s*** and that I have bank statements showing where I never received any money from them. He got quite angry and starting to cuss me. I told him that if he was a real attorney, he wouldn't be getting pissed off and cussing me. I also told him that I was reporting him to the FTC and he quickly hung up.

I received several calls from this number saying he is Mark Williams, he can barely speak English. He left a voicemail saying the matter is urgent and I or my attorney needs to contact him immediately. I didn't call because it sounds just like some of the email scams going around. He is saying if you don't call back all he can do is wish you the best of luck with the criminal actions that will be taken against you.

I received calls from David Clark who has a heavy foreign accent saying he was an attorney and he was calling because there was a lawsuit against me but I immediately knew it was a scam simply because he called cell phone asking for my husband. My husband recently applied for a payday loan and put my number down as his and I started receiving all types of calls afterwards so that's how I know it is a scam. I told David Clark not to call my phone and he said he will not several times so I ask for his supervisor and he said he could give me his senior attorney by the name Mark Richter and said he was with a company called Federal legislation of customer affair and business regulation so I googled the company and got all types of hits about scams. Now I haven't called and made a complaint because I don't have time to figure out what they're trying to say because they're English isn't that good and they are still calling my phones (home and cell).  But that's gonna end soon!!!!

If those people were smart, they would know that when you take out a cash advance loan online, the loan company has access to your account and will automatically withdraw the money from your account if you don't pay. These people are scammer and need to be stopped.

Got a call from 916-629-4661 urging me that me or my attorney needed to call back urgently and to not disregard this legal matter.  I ignored the voicemails until they called me at work and left two voicemails back-to-back today.  I called 916-304-3124 and spoke to "Edward Maxwell" who had a heavy foreign accent.  He told me that I would be arrested by the police tomorrow for three criminal charges against me for a cash advance loan for $300 that I had taken out in March 2013 (which I DID NOT).  He refused to give me any details about the company or amount regarding this debt...when I started inquiring about the company he worked for he quickly got off the phone telling me that I had to get an attorney and fight this in court.

Well, there is no such thing as "charges" against your social security number.  And I assure you, debt collection in this country does not involve being arrested unless it's involing fraud, in which case, they wouldn't call you first.  So relax.
I strongly recommend the meal whistle cure for this illness.  Anyone who calls you about "charges" on your social security number get's one blast; anyone who treatens to arrest you after warning you first gets 2.  I guarantee it will stop the harassment.
These tools don't even scam well.

Prank Call
I got a call from this number also. The man could barely speak English and urged me or my attorney to call back immediately or may God be with me. I called back like a fool and I spoke with someone named Mark Rictner who told me that they had 3 charges against my social security number and they were going to have me arrested on Monday morning if I did not go to Walgreens and purchase a Net Spend Reloaded Pak card in the amount of $490, which is exactly what I owed for a cash advance I had gotten a couple of months ago online. Being as I have never been to jail, I began crying like a baby because I did not understand. I had a brain aneurysm and stroke a few years back and because of this prank, I was very close to stroking out again. I thank everyone who has posted a comment about this number because these people need to be stopped immediately before they truly hurt someone. May God be with them as I know I'll be praying for them.
