I received twice with this message.  When I called back, she spoke Vietnamese in slang.

It's the default number for the California Department of Consumer Affairs' HQ building.  Because there are multiple Boards and Bureaus under the umbrella of DCA, it can be a number of offices who are calling.  You can find a list of Boards and Bureaus on the DCA website.

When someone calls out from DCA's HQ building, the number (916) 574-7894 is aways displayed on caller ID.  We're kinda ninja like that ;)

I'm sorry to interject with your complaint .But I would make an excellent mystery shopper due to the bad experiences I've had with unscrupulous electronic repair people # 1 Edwards Stationary in Rancho Cordova ,Ca.paid $ 20 to clean and evaluate  my typewriter , keys were jammed by children visitors at my home . Went to pick it up and Edward said it will cost $75 to repair it . I told him to forget it since  I only paid $50 for it at a garage sale . He gave a suspicious look , so I couldn't wait to get home where it worked perfectly thereafter for many years .Saved $75 plus 2 weeks of him holding on to it !
#2 My Spa wouldn't start so I call Cal Spas where I bought the Spa .He said it would cost $50 to check the motor and if it was bad  it would cost $275.00 to repair it . I asked him could it be the fuse ; and he says in that case it'll only cost for the fuse plus $50 for the service trip . So I asked him if I could take the fuse in, to check it . I stopped at Cordova Hardware on the way to Bradshaw Rd. Sacto. Ca. and they told me it was a bad fuse, but they didn't have a replacement . So I get down to Cal Spas off of Bradshaw ,and he says the fuse which I had marked with a dot in a letter O , is good so he'll come down and take my motor in for repair . So I asked him for a new fuse and my old fuse back , he gave a suspicious look . I stopped at the Hardware store they said the new fuse was good . And  the spa worked like a charm when I inserted the new fuse .Saved $275. and was able to use spa the same day !
#3 Took in my hair clippers to Dales Clipper Repair on Fulton Ave. Sacramento Ca.. 2 weeks later paid the owner $50 . When I tried the clippers they wouldn't work so I checked and realized the owner of repair shop hadn't even dusted the hair out of the clippers, it had not been touched ! I went right back and he inferred I was a liar that it was a different clipper , that I was trying to cheat him , made remarks about my ethenicity  ; to an attractive lady he was trying to impress . I asked for  a refund or I'd file a complaint at the State Board in downtown Sacramento ; he kept on with his remarks .So when I get down to the CSLB and explain to the Inspector I find out the owner isn't named Dale , I think it  was Doug . Anyway the inspector asks him about the discrepancy  . The knuckle head tells the inspector he will give me my $50 refund , which he did that same day . May I say they got paid back with interest .
Had the same type of problems with my new Crown Vic  they replace a high end radio with a low end radio at folsom  lake ford ,when I took in to get AC checked . They replaced it when we complained. Stopped Vet at 12  of 24 teeth removal from my dog where they were only supposed to clean its teeth ! owned by a  vet named Bob on sunset blvd . Carmichael , Ca. Had teeth checked by 3 other vets Old town in fair oaks ,Ca. , UC Davis where the removed 2 roots that were left broken off ,  and Doc Steinbrenner ; they all said there was no reason to remove my dogs teeth ! It costed us about $900 on that discrepancy . Auto mechanics : car ran perfect , wife says it needs a tune up ,I said no , she hands me  $35 coupon says I never take care of my car blah, blah , blah , . I had to take it back 3 times ,mechanic ran it up to over $400 . My customer owned the shop so I didn't file a complaint . Took same car to another shop for something else they loosened valve covers bolts twice so it would leak . I checked it the second time and told them to tighten them up without having to replace the gasket this time and never returned .

The call I received on this phone number 916-574-7894 was from Ms Kari Frank with the  State Board of Cosmetology in Sacto. , California .In reference to my Barbers License .The call was  Official State Business in nature .

State board of nursing, CA, responding to my inquiry. I did not answer d/t not knowing the number that showed up on my phone, but they left a message. so now i know........

They call me saying that they Where state board  for a Cosmetology and that they need my address and driver license And when I ask her to give me her name and her last name he said no and she was very rude

I got a call too.  It's the California state - Department of Consumer Affairs and/or Board of Registered Nursing.... the place where people apply to get a license to practice nursing and other types of professional licenses.

I received a call from this number asking for another person.  It was a lady caller that asked for Becky.  I told her she had the wrong number.  She was polite and replied thank you.

They keep calling our company, each time giving a different female name, asking for a license # for a different company. I dont know why they change the name they are asking for each time they call. Sounds like a load of BS

P,S,  He called again today but didnt leave a message,

Some guy named Michael called from this number and left a message to call him back at a different number 916-397-8336 and said to call him back it was very important.  I was driving so did not respond.  This man left me 8 more messages, including " Hey ( my name), call me back and I will give you a reward for the lost phone - cash, "    I had no idea who this guy is. Or a lost phone.    Kept calling leaving me messages.  SCAM!!!!  The 10th time I had it and gave the phone to my policeman friend who told him more or less to leave it alone.  The guy didn't even breath and hung up.  No calls since.  BEWARE EVERYONE!!!!!!!

I got a call from this number.  I called it back and the computer message said "You have reached an unassigned number for the (DCA).  Please check your local directory, or the website, for the department you wish to reach."  The only DCA agency that might be calling me is the Board of Registered Nursing.  Right now the Board appears to be ignoring a male nurse masquerading as an "M.D." (putting it on his business cards and website) and the Board has known about this for over two years.  The male nurse "M.D." told me "The Board doesn't care what we do."  Now is the time for the Board to tell the people it serves whether or not it cares that a male nurse is allowed to pose as an M.D., and whether or not this man will get off with just a slap on the wrist.

I got one myself, sting operation for computer repair and then they have you come over, start working on the computer and a cop and a man from DCA (dept of consumer affairs) comes out and tells you that you are working illegally, and that you need to have a BEAR License(Bureau of Electronic and Appliance Repair, an offshoot of the CSLB (contractor state licensing board) to work on computers. (Although I have a business license that SAYS "Electronic and Computer Repair" and the city never told me I needed any licensing (which I specifically asked) it seems that nobody knows of these people, and that they don't give out the information, even when you ask, BUT it's still your responsibility to know that you need it.  It's the same license you need if you want to fix a dishwasher apparently, which is stupid.  Also, they SAY it's for "consumer protection" but it's not, there are no tests, no need for fingerprinting, background check, or need for a bond or a insurance policy, you just need to pay them money every year... friggen scam, that's what happens when budgets get cut. They go after the small operations, the working man, just trying to put food on the table.  Now I am paying a bunch of fines, and having to get the license as well (even though I've never heard of them before now.  What a governmental SCAM!!!  Your tax dollars at work i guess.
