This scam must be branching out - woman called from this number on the caller ID to our business line to offer us "a better rate on our workers comp insurance," but left a different callback number...

I've been getting these call for several years.
This what I've found to be pretty effective.
I made a list of spam callers phone numbers and when one of them call, I answer with
AN INDIAN ACCENT AND SAY HELLO, HELLO, HELLO, AND I DO NOT INGAGE IN CONVERSATION WITH THEM. This drives them crazy and they hang up.
Mission accomplished! Then they put me on their DO NOT CALL LIST. !!!! I win.  

Now, those call have dropped off a lot.
It works for me, Try it You'll like the results.

They just called me stating I inquired about refinancing my house?  Really?  I wish I knew I was looking to refi my house.  Told him not interested and hung up on him.

Went to VM. REPLAYED and guys laughing on speaker phone about 'send me the info, so I hung up on them'. Scam

Spoofed Numbers: Caution, 916-740-7041 is a "spoofed" number, which means that whoever called you "tricked" your caller ID to display an incorrect phone number. Telemarketers do this so you cannot complain, but they failed... you can still file a complaint here to fight back against unethical telemarketers.

I am the owner of 916-740-7401.  Here's the problem for me.  
a) I purchased a MagicJack device and chose a phone number.  That number was 916-740-7401.  Great.
b) Then I did not like MagicJack and purchased a Ooma phone device from Costco.  (A Great Device)
c) I transfered (ported) my MagicJack number 916-740-7401 to Ooma.  (Ooma.Com)
d) I get people calling me all the time saying "who is this."  You called me.  Don't you know who your calling.
e) Well it turns out someone, telemarketer, scam, or otherwise is using my phone number as their caller ID when they dial out.  IT'S NOT ME CALLING YOU!.  
f) There are devices that allow people to dial out and spoof/mimic some other phone number.  They could do it with your phone number as they have with mine.  It's a real pain in the a** since I get people calling me all the time that are mad at me.  AGAIN...   IT'S NOT ME CALLING YOU!
g) I have called Ooma (Ooma.Com) to solve the problem, and they can't.  They offered to change my number, but I like the number.  SO...  What to do.
h) CAN YOU HELP ME?  Please collect information if you actually get a human.  Be nice.  Get their name, address, an alternate call back number.  Ask for an 800 number since you don't have long distance service (right).  I need to find out who the source of this abuse is also.  I am angrY about it.  As you should be.  I own the number, and someone else is using it as their Caller ID.  Spoof.
i) I WOULD GIVE YOU MY CELL PHONE NUMBER BUT I DON'T WANT ALL THESE MAD PEOPLE CALLING ME.  IT'S NOT MY FAULT.  THUS, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE POST A REPLY WITH THE REQUESTED INFORMATION SO I CAN GO AFTER WHOEVER IS DOING THIS.
j) Lastly, say you called me back and I answered.  I get so many calls back I can't explain this to every person who calls.  I would be on the phone all day explaining the issue.  SO...  If after the first time you called you can't get through to me ever again, let me tell you what I did...
j)  Ooma.Com with Ooma phone service has a feature that allows me to Block your number.  I can choose to make you number not ring at my home since your bugging me.  It may just ring and ring and ring, or it may say this number is not in service.  It may even just give you a busy signal tone forever.
k)  IF YOU WANT JUSTICE, THEN I NEED YOUR HELP.  THANKS IN ADVANCE.  SORRY THIS IS BUGGING YOU BUT IT'S NOT ME.

stop calling and stop calling

I was going through my call log (I have VOIP) and found that they tried calling me at 3:15 am??? Luckily I was in a deep sleep, so I didn't hear them. All I know is if I block this number, they'll use another number to call. I wish these people would get the hint. I don't have any money to spare giving to charities.

Left no message, from Roseville.............Who knows, I'm on a do not call list too!!! These calls are frustrating!

This is true. For several years I prepared the tax returns of a veterans' organization that had one single fundraiser. The contact told me that the fundraiser only sent out letters written by the organization stuffed in envelpes provided by the organization to a mailing list supplied by the organization. The fundraiser kept 80% of the funds raised. I checked the fundraiser's tax returns online and found that this verterans' organization was their only client. Donors were supporting an entire family who did nothing but stuff envelopes and pay postage to bring in money. They bought themselves a new $35,000 car that year with donated money. No wonder I donate my time.

Jones: There is a state registry of charities with the Calif. Attorney General's office. You can see the list on line and find out if this is a legitimate registered charitable trust.

I keep getting phone calls from this number. I am on the "do not call list"

Local Police group my rear-end!!!!  Phone say call is from Roseville, CA thats up by Sacramento. I live in SAN DIEGO.  Guy sounded nice and all, asked for box standard $15 dollar donation, just let me mail you this form. . .blah blah blah. . .told him just send me the form, price went up to $25, overhead and all you know. . . blah blah blah. . .at which point told him not interested.  got pushy, told him no and hung up. From what I am reading, they will call back again, and again. . .after third time, will inform them IF they call this number again, will report to FBI, NCIS and any other abreviation I can find. see if they call back again. . . .

Is there really no way to get them to stop?

Problem is, they are local, right?? then they should be from San Diego not Roseville, CA. I live in SOUTHERN California, Roseville is up by Sacramento. . . .how can THAT be local??

Just got the same call, from the same guy. . sounded nice and all, but went from a $15 donation to $25 in two seconds. . .didnt like it, told him no thanks, hung up.  This has GOT to be a SCAM.

Had a chance to google the number before answering, and then hit the block key on the Digitone call blocker (the Digitone blocker was the best investment I ever made - especially the months leading up to  elections).

Why are they calling if I am on a do not call list?

Got three calls, all hours, over the past two days.  Let it ring, no answer, no v-mail left.  This might as well be a solicitation for Arnold Schwarzenegger's illegitimate progeny (they're popping out of the woodwork at this point).  Do not answer.  Do not call back.

Reading all this now makes me feel better about never being able to follow up on my pledges to any of these Police and Firefighters charities. After I made a pledge to PAL (Police Athletic League), I'd get calls later on from a bunch of other Police Youth this-or-that charities and then Firefighters this-or-that charities, all of which i would probably give to if they had a donation box or something and I had some loose change. Each call would thank me for my past generous donations (there were none) and ask if I could pledge another $20-100. I'd feel so bad, i usually agree to their minimum request, but then i really couldn't spare it when the envelope would come in the mail. I've been collecting all these envelopes with the idea of maybe sending some donations when I could, but... I was always impressed with how professional and cheery the callers were - now I know why: they're all making more money than me. If their overhead is all that high that only 20% (or less) is actually getting used for the charity, then they're probably just doing it mainly for the PR...just to look good...Now I'm feeling pretty good about not giving em anything

Beware! This is a "legitimate" charity, but what they don't tell you is that the majority (~80%) of your donation goes to pay their aggressive contract telemarketers. Only about 20% of your donation goes to services for the children. Someone on one of these "who called" boards mentioned a 2009 lawsuit against this "charity" and others, under "Operation False Charity." Check it out, and please find a more reputable charity.

They get you on the service, I mean they get you..  I answered the phone and talked with the scammer they sure weren't answering any questions.. They try and call people over 65 they figured they have a better chance, when I told him I was in my 50's and he just hung up...
