Same guy called me.  Same: Nathan Brooks and Officer David Johnson(same voice and VERY difficult to understand).  Stated he needed me to get counsel and return his call because I was involved or a witness in a sexual assault case and I would need counsel and money.  He stated in another 'try' that he was the investigator and I was to report to him immediately because I was in trouble through the IRS.  He has called three times now.  I have not answered, but looked up the number on the internet.

My daughter answered the phone and was greeted by an "Officer Chris Martin" claiming I owed money to the IRS and that I needed to pay immediately or I would be arrested.  My daughter hung up and he called back and became aggressive with her.  She hung up and he called back telling her he knew our address (which he did) and that she was going to die if she didn't pay.  She hung up and he called back, yet again, this time saying he wanted to have sex with her.  He proceeded to call back 27 times in a 23 minute period.  He left 6 voice mail messages with similar aggressive statements.  In one he says he loves and misses me, and the one immediately following he says I will die.

Needless to say, do just hang up when you hear from these people.  If you owe money, the IRS will not contact you in this manner.  Period.  I have been told by the local police, that while this is illegal it's a misdemeanor crime and the call is coming from out of state.  Out of their jurisdiction.  That is heartbreaking.

This is some coward hiding behind a magicJack device plugged in at some God-forsaken corner of the world where there is Internet service.  He's no better than a common criminal using a magicJack device and your fear the same way a common thief uses a toy pistol hidden in the pocket of his overcoat to make a bulge that looks like a real gun.

You can verify that this is a magicJack number by searching for it at http://www.phonevalidator.com .

This scam has been extensively researched at
http://www.pindropsecurity.com/consumer-fraud ... irs-phone-scam/ and it was found that magicJack numbers are frequently used, and many of the scammers are operating out of India.  There is even an audio recording of a call returned to one of these numbers and a written transcript of the recording contained in links from the Pindrop Security blog.

MagicJacks are readily obtainable outside of the United States for about $100 US and can come with up to a year of free calling to the U.S. and Canada.  In India, see, for example,
http://magicjack.in .

In addition to the regular reporting channels, e.g., the Department of the Treasury, the FTC, and/or your local state attorney general's office, you might also report the abuse to YMAX Corp.  I have seen reports that they are pretty good at responding to complaints and may be able to permanently shut off a magicJack device, if necessary, so that it can never be used again.

The YMAX Corp. main web page is at:
http://www.ymaxcorp.com
and their site giving information on how to lodge a complaint is at:
http://www.ymaxcorp.com/contact.html

Note that the "contact" website gives a clickable link to a "live chat" where you can make your complaint.

A man named Nathan Brooks called this morning, June 5, 2014, saying he was from the IRS. My husband picked up the phone to ask what this was about, and the man said he was calling about my owing taxes. I don't owe taxes, so my husband ended the phone call. I called the 917-300-3725 number and spoke with this person to see what he had to say. He said I owed taxes. I said "when will I receive a letter about this?" and he said "tomorrow". I said "I'll wait for my letter" and hung up.

Got this same call saying my daughter was in a life-threatening situation and needed to call them by noon tomorrow. 917-300-3725. Call was from "David Johnson." I called back and that call was answered by another gentleman who said the first guy was just kidding about her dying. I told him I was calling local law enforcement and he said "Wonderful" and hung up on me. Daughter called their number back with a text app she could delete with me on three-way. The answering machine said we had reached "Tax Crime Investigation - Unit of IRS - Desk of Officer Nathan Brooks." He then called her back but hung up on her when she stated who she was and that they had told her mom she was going to die. What a piece of s***!!!!

They usually are not in the US to begin with. This is a scam operation and most likely in India. Do report the calls to the real IRS though:

?If you owe federal taxes, or think you might owe taxes, hang up and call the IRS at 800-829-1040. IRS workers can help you with your payment questions.
?If you don?t owe taxes, call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 800-366-4484.
?You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at FTC.gov. Add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments in your complaint.

We just received a call from these same people. We use caller ID and don't answer unknown numbers. Read Alfalfa's April 17 comments on here to get a clear picture of what is going on and what you can do. Tell anyone you know who might be gullible to never fall for these scams. The only way they will stop is if they no longer are successful.

I got same situation here. This idiot, I hope he reads this comments, that people left about him and making fun of him. I told him not to call my number again, and OMG he was calling me names and was screaming at me, and sending me to hell and dropping f* bombs. I was really surprised, that IRS officer would do this. I hope police will get this son of a b*** one day, I would love to hear that. What's crazy, that after that he still called me again and I didn't pick up. I called police, and they said if he calls again, let them know. He sounded like Indian with words I didn't even understand, so I was also calling him names in Russian and Azeri language, I got so mad, I didn't care if he understands me. I hope, he doesn't get money from anybody, be careful!

Received voice mail stating I needed to contact "Officer Alex Morgan" @ 917-300-3725 with the Tax Crime Investigation unit with the IRS.  I was told I, or my lawyer, needed to call back "the very second" I get this call.  If I did not call back the best he could do was wish me good luck with the situation, and if I wanted to "save myself" I should return the call.  After my wife called back it was some answering machine and they called us again after 5 minutes and want to talk to me.I check on-line and find all this stories.

917-300-3725 called and left a message on my answering machine. I called back and the guy said he was named Nathan Brooks. However, the message said his named was Officer David Johnson. It was the same voice - Nathan Brooks and David Johnson. I told him to stop scamming people and he laughed and said I was jealous.
