I have been getting threatening phone calls from this same number for about a week. The attorneys name they is Ryan Jacobs. They have threaten to block my social security number for 6 months. Also threaten me as if I do not respond they feell very sorry for me. I have reported this number and messages on phone to police on 3 occasions and the police have actually called this number and they will not give out information on company name. First call was from a Ryan Reynolds representing Ryan Jacobs and they said they were from Cash America. I have not gotten any loans or cash advances and am previously unemployed.

This same number has been calling me for about 2 weeks, his name was Officer John Williams from the attorney general's office in NY but he had an east Indian accent. He threatened that I would be taken to jail if I didn't give him my debit card information and authorize him to take $900. When I asked what this was for he stated cashnetusa. I got a call from these same type of people back in September from Julian Marshall at a legal firm in Texas and I fell for it. The thing that made me realize it was a scam this time is that they said in September that is was for cashnetusa. I know I wouldn't owe them twice so I got scammed once but it won't ever happen again.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Some fraudsters have instructed victims to fax a statement agreeing to pay a certain amount, on a specific date, via a pre-paid Visa card. The statement further declares the victim will never dispute the debt.

If you receive these calls, do not follow the caller?s instructions. Rather, you should:

?Notify your banking institutions.
?Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file.
?Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger.
?File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.
Tips to avoid becoming a victim of this scam:

?Never give your Social Security number?or personal information of any kind?over the telephone or online unless you initiate the contact.
?Be suspicious of any e-mail with urgent requests for personal financial information. The e-mail may include upsetting or exciting but false statements to get you to react immediately.
?Avoid filling out forms in e-mail messages that request personal information.
?Ensure that your browser is up-to-date and security patches have been applied.
?Check your bank, credit, and debit card statements regularly to make sure that there are no unauthorized transactions. If anything looks suspicious, contact your bank and all card issuers.
?When you contact companies, use numbers provided on the back of cards or statements

I just got a blocked call on my cell phone. They left a message. He said (in a thick non American accent) he was Ryan Jenkins from the NY Attorney General's office. He had my address and told me there is a probation case that will be filed by 2:30 pm today. He aid I need to call him to avoid this. Who is this company? I'm contacting the general attorney's office and my local police. Why are they threatening people - no idea who or what this is about - isn't it illegal?

He said he was calling to collect a payment of 495.00$ or the case was getting downloaded to the court house. They wouldnt give me a number or tell me when I borrowed the money.when he first called my phone he called from a private number. Then he called my work and left his name and number.I knew it was a scam when I first talked to him! is there anyway to get them to stop? This is the second time this has happened to me!

I just recieved a call from this same number! He said his name was Ryan Jacob, and he had a very thick Indian accent. He said that I owed $200 to CashAmerica(which I don't). Any time I would ask him something he told me to not interrupt him until he was done saying what he had to say. He said he worked for the Attorney Generals office. And if I didn't send my debit card information and a copy of my ID to him I'd be going to jail on a felony warrant. My daughter immediately looked it up because it didn't sound right, and we stumbled on this page. We immediately went to the police department and filed a report against this number. And we're calling social security and the 3 credit agencies. Thanks!

I recieved a call from this number today also. The man told he his name was Steve Martin. He had a very thick E. India accent. He told me that there was a law suit against me from a company named cash america. He said it was from me taking out a loan for $300 and not paying it back. He said I had to come to the Attorney General's office in New York tomorrow at 2:30pm to download the case. I asked him if he knew where I lived. He had the right state but the wrong zip code. He also said I could go to a web site AG.NY.GOV. I called him back to get an address in New York and he said he was from the Attorney General's office. I am filing a police report. Every time I asked for the name of his company he played music into the phone

Yes, I receive a call from someone like that from this number.   They claimed to be an attorney from a company called Liberty Legal, named Mark Harris representing CashNet.com, calling to threaten me with a lawsuit about money that they claim I took out as a loan, which I never did.  First they said I should fax my bank account info with a request to withdraw $1500.00 (which I obviously didn't do).  Then he said that someone was going to show up at my house and deliver a summons, and they would take me away in handcuffs for not paying the bill for over a year.  This person had my phone, address, email, s.s. #, and bank account. It really freaked me out!  I filed a report with my local police, they told me to call social security and the 3 credit agencies to put a block on my accounts just in case someone tries to take out a credit card.
I dont no them and i want to know some one can stop them or not.where is the Law .

I received a call on 10/05/11 @ my job from this # 917-460-0033 from a man claiming to be Christopher Mclaine from some Law Group about a legal matter did not tell me what it was all about said for me to have my Lawyer to contact him. This is actually not the first time I've received a call from this "law firm"; they actually contacted me on my home telephone several times as well. This is the 2nd call I've received at my job. Theses people have American English names but they speak with an accent. They don't offer to mail me any such claim information. I want these people to stop calling me - especially at my work place.

Just got off of the phone with the same guy, Christopher McClaine for whatever law firm. Don't interupt him while he is talking. WHATEVER!!! I asked what it was for (Cashnet) how much is it for ($782). Asked if he could send the "claim" to me through the mail. He told me he would email it to me and if that was not sufficient then law enforcement officials would be at my home this evening with the documentation so I could read it and then they would take me to jail for at least two nights. I told him there was no such thing as debtors prison and that he was in violation of the Federal Trade Commission by threatening me.I said that I don't know where he is from but it probably was not in the United States. He said "I most certainly live in the United States." I asked him where he was from and he said that he lives in New York. I told him that I doubted he llived in New York about as much as I believed his name was Christopher and hung up. For an indiscretion that happened over 8 years agao, I am still being stalked by these scumbags!
