They are not necessarily spoofing their number,  VoIP systems can be set-up to not accept incoming calls at all their numbers and play disconnected or other phone company messages to callers.  You could fight back by having your own VoIP system, it takes work, but it can be done.

These people have been bothering me for the past 2 and a half years about some money I dont owe. it is a collection agency using VoIP most likely spoofing their number.

Had a friend go through this a few years ago.  This friend is a computer geek and did some research.  These companies buy old (10 yr +)"unpaid" bills from major companies and try to collect on them. It does not matter to them if  it was settled, dismissed, bankrupted or whatever. They call old neighbors, friends, family, anyone they can find through open records, on line, etc., that is, was, could be, maybe know anything about you to track you down.
It was through many months, but the friend was able to turn the tables on them and ask about the legitimacy of their practices and inform them of the laws of our state. All but one company backed off. That company called til they were threatened with a reverse lawsuit. That finally did it.
Educate yourself on your states collection laws and beat these creeps at their own game. Good luck.

"All circuits busy". Really freaky voice and fake sounding white noise.

I just go a call from this number. The lady who left this message said she was from Americollect and that she was a debt collector. She would not say what she was collecting for but, she called my by my married last name. This has to be some kind of scam or something because I don't owe any money to anyone. I got married right out of collage and my husband has handled all our bills since. I have one college loan and I know for a fact we are paying that off. So what do these people really want?

I got I call from this number.  They were looking for someone who hasn't had this phone number for almost three years.  Their records are certainly not up to date.

The DO NOT CALL list is not for collection agencies. I was having the same problem with receiving debt collection calls for someone else and told them no one by that name lives here and to stop calling. They continued to call and I called the FTC and reported them. The calls finally stopped. The Do Not Call List is for soliciting insurance or siding on your house that you did not asked to be called. Collection Agencies and Political calls are exempt. Collection Agencies are to stop calling once you tell them to stop calling.

This time this calling number left a message on my cell phone but typically have not in the past ... never heard clearly who they are looking for but same deal with a separate call back on another number. I know now why so should share here .. I have a recently reassigned business cell number (recycled via Verizon) so can only assume the last person with this number might have been a deadbeat as I've gotten other calls; including automated calls from a school that said it was closing early so please pick up your kids! At least on the other calls I was able to explain that they've reached the wrong person so please take me off your list ... this one I'm not going to bother so eventually/hopefully they'll move on ... very annoying! My 'new' number was added to the do-not-call list but doesn't appear to work for these types of calls.

I received a call at my office from 920.645.6201 per caller ID, but the caller asked that I call back (888) 303-3634.  Someone took the time to wade through our extension numbers and got my phone.   The caller stated her name and that this is a call for Rxxxxx Cxxxxx.  They then left their number twice and then said, call us back.  This is a debt collection matter.  No specific amount or name familiar to me  was left, only their alleged company name "Americollect".  I owe no one.  At least no debt that is past due, to my knowledge.  I called back.  They looked my name up then asked to me to give them my birthday.  I said, I have no idea who you are, what is this in regards to.  They said, can you give me your birthday.  I said "NO".  I don't know you.  They replied, we can't give out personal information, we don't know if you're who you say you are.  I said, "Exactly!  I guess we're at a stall mate.  Goodbye."  They call all they want, but hell will freeze over before I talk to them again.

I think all agencies of this manner , and that I personally did not contrct , should be outlawed. I was receiving phone  call after phone call from an unkown caller ,thats what my phone said, and answered it three times and got no andwer . I just received a call from this phone number and I was unable to answer , but did a check on who it was, A bill collector and I do not own any bills that these guy claim I have .  What I think is they try to get some kind of payment from you or me and I'm not the one who hired them. I paid all my bills and they did nothing for me. Medical and all.

A woman calls asking for my husband, gives me her name and phone number, and that she will be there until 9pm.  So I get curious....and start asking her questions....finally I say this is his wife, and she says to me Oh, I didn't know he was married!!!!  So, what is the first thing a wife would think, and I continued to ask her what this phone call was about and she started in on the privacy crap, and I said I was his wife and nothing in this house is private....I finally hung up on her....and looked up the phone #.  It's a frickin' debt collector!!!!

This number keeps calling our house, when I answer it says "all circuits are busy"...if its a collection agency, well, we don't owe any bad debts, so knock it off.  Also we are on the no call list, and i will report this.  I called the number back and a real cocky guy answered and said I HAD to give him my name or he wouldn't tell me who this was...well, I don't give out my name, so I hung up!!!!!!

Got a call/voicemail today from Tracy with Ameriquest for a Sara Danielson. Number that showed up on my phone was 920-645-6201. Tracy's message told me to call her back at 888-303-3634. She said she is with a collection agency and i have until 1:30 tomorrow to call her back. I'm not Sara Danielson and name isnt even close.  And I dont owe anyone any money.

Some girl called asking for someone that did not live in my household.  Appeared to be some sort of fishing expedition looking for people with similar names.  The caller was pleasant and apologized for the call but I am still pissed about their attempt to located somebody through similar family names.  Ugh!!!

Yep. Calling me AND my 13 year old daughters phone! She is dealing with brain cancer and they choose to hassle her... She TOLD a live person to stop calling, she is 13! They are cold and need to get the correct debters, cuz its not her OR me.
