yep! I just got one at 2:53pm today & immediately looked it up on google and found this site, as there have been a lot of scammers saying they are banks and such calling & they have a lot of info, but want more (a credit card or bank account # to pay a credit card bill??? - those come up under a lot of BS numbers in Texas [as per my caller ID] and my bank knows nothing about them!!!) Looks like people fishing for information on bank accounts and such...

well, it seems like it'll be like last year! I've already had one guy come by asking me to "support his college education"... I didn't even ask what he was selling, just saw some paperwork - looked like one of those "I'm selling magazines, or coupon books, etc. scams where you write a check and never get anything from it.)

Anyhow, the call I got said "Hold on, someone will be with you in a moment" or something along those lines. I simply hung up! (best way to deal with them!)

I called the # back & it has a copy of the recording from the bank "Washington Mutual" & says it is from card services, etc. Interestingly, I don't bank with them, nor have any credit cards with them!  I got a LOT of call last year about this time from the same kind of scammers... Last year it was BofA and some other bank I'd never herd of...

You might want to report it to the authorities, but I wouldn't give anyone at that number the time of day! Simply hang up and report it, or simply don't answer if you have caller ID, which I assume you do!

Like I said, there are a lot of calls coming out of Texas as well and my CC company knew nothing about it AND these people have strong Indian or S. American accents (depending on who calls and at what time - I was getting calls at 7am from the #s in Texas, but calling that back, the numbers were dead, so they were likely running a PBX system & they called me about 4 times a day for the last month or so.)

The dead give-away is the foreign accents, that I don't bank with these people claim to be with AND they want a LOT of information! ALSO, it doesn't come up with any bank name on the ID!!!

Best policy is to simply hang up if you mistakenly even answer them!!!

intelius.com says this is a residential #

says, "Phone Report for (925) 738-0260
#
    NAME:    AVAILABLE
#
    TYPE:    RESIDENTIAL"

This is NOT your bank calling you!!! An area code search says "Contra Costa county" Cell phones come up this way on my caller ID!!!

IF you've given this person ANY info about yourself, call your bank and report it IMMEDIATELY if not sooner, and lock AND credit accounts, bank accounts, ANYTHING you can about these people!!!

This is a scam!

If they are anything like the one in Texas, they claim to know a lot about me, ALTHOUGH... there are places online that have asked for personal info they do NOT need, and thus I have given false info on purpose, and guess what they had??? The same info, so if you're using your credit cards on-line, you might instead consider a pre-paid credit card for shopping on-line, as this is gotta be the source of their information!

I bought a pre-paid and reloadable card from my local grocery store for online use exclusively!

ALSO, if banking online, be SURE to clear any spyware, temp files, cookies, and your cache before AND AFTER you get you bank info on-line... I quit banking on-line as someone was getting my info even by being extremely careful! ALSO!!! those who work at gas stations are being warned to look for people sitting in cars at the gas stations, especially with laptops, and I'm sure other places are not immune!!! They can get a WHOLE lot of information, including account numbers, etc. just be a wireless connection, even though most gas station do not use wireless... It still gets out electronically far enough for someone to get info in close proximity... If a business is using wireless, then I'd use cash only! A weak signal from a wireless connection can be picked up for approximately 15 MILES (depending on the terrain!)

Keep your credit cards in your wallet this year and use cash is all I can advise! There are some crafty hackers out there that know how to get into this stuff and know how to use it to make your life miserable!!!

Yes, I've been getting calls from these past two days as well (925-738-0260).  I didn't want to leave any sensitive information when they called.  I called WAMU directly 1-800-280-9441 and asked them if they know of that number.  They told me that it's WAMU's collection department and thats their northern california number.  So this seems to be legitimate.  If you do receive a phone call from this number, you may need to call washington mutual and figure out whats going on... I live in Sacramento, CA. Hope this helps anyone else who's trying to figure this out.

If they continue at my #, you can bet I'l file a police report to get the phone co to put a trap on my # and then they'll get busted (unless this is a pre-paid phone that no one registered a legitimate name with, but then they might also be traced by their SIM card for 911/EMS purposes they have a tracking device in them!

If they keep it up, or if you've given them ANY info, call your bank, the police, etc.!!!

Perhaps they are trying to get people to sign up for credit cards (but who in their right mind in this day and age would give the needed info to someone who called them???)

This is a scam!!!

There's also been a number in Texas that's been doing a similar thing, and claim to be from the same bank or CC service... Don't believe them for a second!!!

I backtracked this # and it is NOT Washington Mutual card services (as it says if you call the # back!), although I *did* call it back and they have a great recording that sounds just like it!

The reverse look-up came up that this is a cell phone in Contra Costa county, NOT this bank's number!

IF you get a call from these people, simply DO NOT ANSWER!!! IT's a SCAM!

Received calls from this number at any hour of the day -- Saturday evenings, Sunday mornings, --  you name it. No one replies when I answer. Probably a computer just trying to see if it's a valid number -- for later use?
