I went through all this, not knowing it was for magazines, otherwise I would have said NO from the beginning!  Once they sucked me in thinking I'm getting a prize and a diamond watch I could give my husband for x-mas, I reluctantly went through the process after saying no a million times still, and finally at the end where it said I'd be bound for 4 yrs, I said I can't do this!  Prob was, the people I was dealing with were nice, but they used it to  their advantage and that I was nice and used my kids as a ploy making me feel obligated to get the magazines for them, and all along being under the impression that I had to purchase to be in the sweepstakes!  The supervisor actually took me off recording after I said no, and did everything possible to get me on board, using my kids as leverage and hers, she took it down to 2 instead of 4 years and pay as you go instead of 4 yrs up front, thinking if I didn't like it at all, I wouldn't be out as much, test it out, then cancel (it's just magazines for goodness sake!!!)!  Well as soon as I got the watch, it was complete JUNK!  Didn't even know if it was for a man or a woman???  Wanted to return and cancel right then, but thought, let's see if these kids magazines are all they're cracked up to be, it took foooorever to get any, and I'm paying for nothing!  I've gotten one or 2 kids magazines coming up on 4 months and I just want this to be over!  Can't take on the added expense!  Never have time to read anything in the first place, like I told her, I already get free magazines in the mail I never look at or even open, clutter is all it is!!!  Kids have too many books as it is already too!  How do I get out of this???  They have me recorded, but they probably deleted the first recording, and took me off record when she was grasping at straws to keep me hooked, didn't matter how many times I said no, she wouldn't leave me alone!!!  For what I see, they are in breach of their own contract for not providing the service they had agreed to!  Help!  What do I do?

I got sucked into buying magazines from empire and now they tell me I can't cancel the contract.  I notified the credit card company to block their charges.  How did I get sucked into this scam? I live on a fixed income since my husband died and these people are really uncompassiotate.

I had an unknown number calling me all week and I decided to answer it tonight since it was from an area code where I live and telemarketer calls are usually blocked. When I answered the woman congratulated me claiming I had been entered into A Dream of a Lifetime Sweepstakes, and I had also been one of the select people who had won a diamond watch (It turns out it's not even a real diamond watch, that's the brand name and you have to mail in for it and pay additional S&H.)
I am obsessed with watches so I googled the sweepstakes to see if it was legit. The first link was for a magazine that I like and the entry form looked familiar so I agreed to continue on with the conversation. She informed me that all I needed to do to receive the ?diamond? watch was answer a quick survey, which consisted of questions about age, marital status and hobbies.
I assume they choose based on your answers what 3 free magazine subscriptions you will receive for 60 months.  They then throw in a bonus magazine, either TV Guide/ESPN, which I will only have to pay the delivery fee of $4.99/week.
When I told her I wasn't interested in the magazine offer she got very rude and aggressive. I told her I was a full time law student and did not care to read in my free time. She continued to harass me and told me people rarely pass up on this amazing deal. I again said no thank you, then inquired about the watch. She acted confused and said there was no watch. I repeated what she had told me earlier and she got flustered, saying she was new and didn?t see anything in the terms about said watch, then said I would get the watch if I participated in the magazine offer.
Still being interested in the elusive watch, I inquired how long I would need to have the subscription and she just kept saying they were offering the price for 60 months then they would automatically cancel my subscription. She then said her supervisor would be able to answer my questions and transferred me.
The ?supervisor? asked my information and somehow already had the first number of my credit card and was pretty adamant about getting as much information as she could before I could speak. When I finally got my chance, I inquired about the watch and she told me I could get either the men?s or women?s style. I asked if she could describe it, to which she replied, ?It?s like when you walk up to an ATM machine, do you know what that is? Well when you put your card in and enter your pen there?s Xs ? that?s what happens when we get your credit card information.?
I told her I wasn?t asking anything about the credit card, I just wanted to know more about the watch. She replied that if I could tell time I would like the watch. She then pressed on for more credit card information. I inquired about the terms of the subscription agreement to which she said I would have to complete the full 60 months, then said I could opt out if I wanted to. I asked her for an affidavit of the agreement and she hung up on me.
After further research on this ?Dream of a Lifetime Speech? it seems to be a pretty big issue and the company works under aliases. If someone is saying you have to ?act now? or pressuring you, then there is probably something fraudulent going on.

I also got a call today about a 'dream of a lifetime sweepstakes'. They had called multiple times so I made my husband answer. The man on the phone would not take no for an answer, so my husband had to hang up. He told him not to call again, so we will see if that works. The number was 937-350-8074.

Called Empire Reader and they claim call was to sell magazines but the caller never mentioned a magazine? Empire claims everyone with a credit card is already entered into Sweepstake. This sounds awfully wrong!~

I received a call from this number and they asked if I was still at my address. Wanted to know if my card was Master card or Visa. Asked if my income was over 1,200.00/mo. Then when I told her I was disabled she hung up. I tried to call back but number was busy.

I have had the same issues with this number.  I reported it to BB&T Online Security because I thought it was phish-y.  Little pun lol. Anyway, the calls stopped and BB&T thanked me for reporting it.  However, today, about 3 months later, I received another call from this number.  It's really annoying because they are calling my cell.  Anyway, avoid the scam.  You're not gonna win a big prize.

Lady called - said she was with "Dream of a Lifetime" sweepstakes; that every major credit card user would be entered into this sweepstakes, sponsored by Empire Readers.  Initially, she told me that I could find more information at www.dreamofalifetime.com, but - when that didn't work - she said that they must just be working on the site, but that I could find more information at www.empirereaders.com.  Although www.empirereaders.com had a bunch of magazines listed on the site, there was NO information about any contest.  During this process, however, I noted that everything on google that came up talked about it being a scam. Once I mentioned that to the caller, she laughed, saying that google just had the wrong information.  She tried closing me immediately, saying that she needed to verify my information, but I short-cutted the process, told her just to enter me into the sweepstakes with whatever information they already had and she hung up on me.
